Thank you Stephen
This has been a very fun build all the way , at the moment there´s just the topwing , the prop and some pe-parts left to glue together , and all the rigging ofcourse
Will try to take and upload some more pictures if there will be some time left after all snow that needs to be showeled away , we do have a lot of that white stuff in Sweden now

Well, I did it, and in the words of the immortal Poet Laureate Homer Simpson . . . .
WOOO HOOO !!
A little touching up here and there where some paint came up with the tape, but nothing like the nightmare I fully expected with acres of bare plastic and a re-start.
SO I'll say it again
WOOO HOOO !!
Cheers, D

Hey Todd,
Where's the "WOO HOO" ? We now have "splinter twins" !!
Lovely job on the 138, I'm a bit scared to tackle mine after the fit issues you have had, but you have overcome them really nicely.
Cheers, D

WOOOO HOOOO .... LOL Anything will fit with the proper amount of force! LOL The kit is not terrible. It just requires those modeling skills we keep hearing so much about. The instructions tell you where to fill (engine booms). The rest is normal seam work. The wings and stab fit quite well. Now to paint the underneath and props. The turrets will be a challenge I think.

Hi all. My He 115 is fully assembled. I had a couple of moments getting the floats and struts all lined up, but it's there now. I will put a coat of future on tonight, then tomorrow night decals. My intention is to maybe put a drop or two of paint in the final coats of future to "tone down" the camo colours before weathering. Can anybody comment on this technique?
As usual any comments or critique most welcome.

Interesting concept...Ive never tried it. A freind of mine is a Japanese aircraft guru and has his works published in some Osprey books..and he showed me how to get a great patina on an aluminum frame, and from what I see, it tones things down nicely also..
What he showed me was simple..Apply a good solid coat of Future .take burnt Umber oils right from the tube and paint them over the panel lines, (it looks like hell at this point)..then using a clean papar towel gently rub it all off following the airflow of the aircraft. By the time youre done the final effect is toned down colours...have a look at the Sally I posted on this site and you can see the effect ..

Damian, I...I still can't believe you painted over that beautifully colored Matchbox plastic. I think I hear an angel crying somewhere...
But seriously, if you clear coat with floor wax, then weather and hit mine again with some dull coat the paint will be toned down. After decals and panel line washes, I thin the primary colors until very little pigment is left, then spray multiple straight and wavy lines across the model in the direction of air flow. Then dull coat it. The streaks become less obvious after the dull coat is applied, breaks up the sharp outlines of camo schemes and gives the illusion of the model having been in motion.

Hi Damian
Excellent looking camouflage. These old Matchbox kits can be fun to build.
It seems like you made it from green and white - I think it should be white over the the standard camouflage of green and dark green to be historically correct. I think Matchbox got it wrong unless one of the colours was changed for white on purpose. Anyway, it looks great.
Regarding the toning down i would use a heavily thinned wash to tone everything down before the flat coat. I have tried your method and failed since "shadows" and dark tones turned up where I would not like them. But that could be because I failed to get an even coat.
Looking forward to see more.

Thanks Jesper,
That's what I love about Aeroscale, I learn something new every time I log on. Lesson for today "Don't trust kit paint schemes - Check References or Ask here."
I also had a try of the tinted future on a hack kit and I see what you mean, there are dark streaks on overlaps in spots where they shouldn't be. I will go for a very thin overall wash and some chipping then the flat top-coat.
Jim
Now that scares me a bit, sounds great but I think I'll give it a try on a prctice kit before I launch into anything too serious !!
Anyhoooo, decals are on and Futured, wash going on today some time (if the kids leave me alone for a bit !!).
Cheers, D

Looks great, Damian. Those black crosses and letters really add a little extra contrast.
Your cockpit framing looks great - did you get hold of a masking set or did you make the masks yourself?

Just a quick update on my build for this campaign guys, I haven't forgotten about it, I'm busy with another campaign over on Armorama, and when that's finished, I'll be cracking on with my Catalina. I've had a flick through this thread, and I have to say there is some top work going on, if mine is comes out half as good as some I will be well pleased.

Thanks Jesper, I'm happy with the way they came out as well. I cut some thin (1-2mm) strips of Tamiya Tape to run around the edges of the glass areas, then fill in the centre with larger shapes. This means I don't have to cut exact shapes and sizes. The only thing to watch is that you "burnish" down the overlap so there's no seepage.

Thanks Jim, it means a lot to me to get a compliment from you guys. It means that I'm learning and my skills are improving, and the extra time it takes me is worthwhile !!
I always take extra care with the glass, in my opinion a good job on the glass will make-or-break the final appearance of a kit.
Now, I need your advice/opinions/suggestions guys. I have applied a sludge wash, and started to selectively wipe it off in the direction of airflow using a Q-tip (or 10), and I am wondering when to stop !! I am liking the effect in the following pics, but I have a feeling it may still be a bit heavy and need a bit more taken off before I seal it up.
Let me know what you think.
Cheers, D

The white part of the cross decal on the port wing is quite see through. Sorry to point this out after you started weathering. Should be easy enough to mask and spray though. I wouldn't even bother with the other side. Just spray a white with a hint of the green colour so it looks like the cross on the opposite wing.
I think it does look great though, really nice clean construction. You never see these getting built either, just stashed.

Hi All,
I got the Revell,48 scale PBY/OA-10a Catalina as my entry for this campaign, but I intend to build it as a Royal Australian Air Force subject in either a 'Black Cat' or the Ocean Blue/Dark Sea Gray over Black cammo'd version. Using a few wartime pix as a reference.
The boxart.

Due to a few projects nearing completion this build will not be started untill April.
