Only three completed? I think there should be more Bob, for example Nick also completed the project. Did he forget to upload photos to the gallery?

OHHHH!!! Warren why did you remind me of that monster, now I will have nightmares tonight Actually I did my research without my glasses and my left eye did not pick up everything that the left eye was missing So next time I will make sure that I put those glasses on. HEY how is everyone doing with the 6 million or so campaigns going on at the same time. I am having more fun than is legal, guess it is time to get back to my (4) entries for this campaign.

There are 38 modelers on that list. 18 are missing in action, which is about half. Of the remaining 20, 7 of us have completed our builds.

In summary, excluding MIA modelers, we are at 35% completion rate, not bad since most kitmaker campaigns hardly reach 50%.

Even though I had made some progress on my entry, it seems I hadn't posted anything yet. Well, let's change that.
I already got most of the cockpit components removed from the sprues and cleaned up for painting and assembly, but let's have a start with the fuselage first.

Oh, and in case someone is wondering, I'm doing a 1:48 scale Hasegawa P-40M, mentioned waaay to many pages before in this thread.

There were several mentions and warnings about the modular construction approach taken in the design of the kit and advice to deviate from the instructions. Most sound advice indeed. Assembling the fuselage halves separately and joining them like a conventional kit helps prevent most of the steps in the joints, but it'll still require quite a lot of putty, sanding and TLC to get the panel lines to connect.

TLC meaning rescribing of course, that pic above is a prime example. Most of the panel lines between the fuselage plugs line up, but not all...

I don't know if it's just me or what, but I couldn't get all the panel between the plugs to connect, there was always one that wouldn't cooperate. It's filling and rescribing time I guess...

Inconsistency would be the best word to describe the fit of the fuselage components: The left cockpit rear fairing fit fine and the panel lines matched reasonably (see pic above), but the right one wasn't tall enough, requiring a shim of thin styrene sheet to fit in properly.

Talking of the inserts, most of them seem to require varying amounts of TLC to blend in. For example, the nose cooling vent inserts were too thin, needing styrene sheet glued in the back to get them sit level with the rest of the nose.

Once I get the rear fuselage piece and cockpit fairing blended in, I think the biggest work in the kit is behind me.

I hope to have some cockpit work to show in the next update.

Eetu,
Happy to hear from you, I have marked you down correctly on the spreadsheet. Did anyone know that I had spelled Hasegawa wrong? I just corrected that also.

Axel, I have seen your builds and I know that it will be good. We have until Sept. 1, 2011 (3) months, so I had better move my P-40's back to the bench and continue working.

Gents,
I'm late to join the party, but my P-40 had to arrive from China first... It's one of my if not the favorite fighters of WWII and I thought I'd join this Campaign to get a foot back into aircraft. It will be a basic OOB build to give me a chance to relearn the basics. I will be building the Academy 1/72 scale P-40E in Australian Markings, 77th Squadron, New Guinea 1942. Here are the pre build pics and the first build pic of the interior.

Cheers and keep up the great work gentlemen!

O.K., I'm done.

Here some pics:

Did you notice the pilot didn't close his canopy all the way before heading off for a debriefing beer. Got to give him a ruse for that....

Update time. Now this a bit behind my actual progress, but I like to have a sort of continuity going on.

Everything ready for priming the interior stuff:

I was thinking about getting a set of resin exhaust pipes, but decided save the funds and open the kit parts, as they're solid ended but otherwise very nice.

Now those pipe ends are nowhere as neat as aftermarket parts, but decent enough, me thinks.

Interior painting is underway at the moment and I hope to get it done and the build ready for fuselage assembly soon.

Oh no Mister Bob... you may not complain about lack of practice about painting, then ask about methods and then outsource the task! We want those models painted by you, with the new methods tried on at least one of them! I dare you!

I am doing a Japanese captured a/c and need two red meatballs with white outline for the upper wing surface. Anyone out there who could assist me?
