They do turn up all over the place! I heard something about the Academy Avenger being a copy of the Frog. Might have some truth in it as it has all the features of a lend-lease FAA Avenger rather than a US example.

@ Jon, close, my example has FAA and RNZAF markings
@ Stephen, curiouser and curiouser, I've got the Academy Minicraft boxing of the TBF/M in the stash too. I'll have to check it out sometime.

The Minicraft Avenger is the former Crown kit.

There are several and many early Academy 72nd kits--possibly every single kit from the 80s/early 90s--that are outright copies of other brands, with the molds slightly retooled (the recessed panel lines being the major noticeable item).
BUT, as such, I don't think the Academy kits should qualify as they ARE retooled. My opinion.
Jonathon, unless Crown also pirated the Frog mold, the Academy TBF is a blatant clone of the Frog. Compare the sprues here and here:
Academy http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=AC%201651
Frog http://frog.cocardes.com/grumman-avenger-mk-ii-ref-f244

Jonathon is thinking of the 1/144 Avenger, which is indeed the Crown kit. It's the Seventy Twooth kit which traces its ancestry to Frog.

Still, I gotta check the Academy TBF in my stash, I have absolutely no recollection of the stand.. I'm claiming a senior moment at worst...

I'll have to find mine out but I'm pretty sure it came with the stand too. Its hard to tell the two apart from those pictures. Its a bit of grey area and unless we can prove that they are Frog or clones, known reboxes are a safer bet to qualify for the campaign.
I suspect that Academy have ripped off a few manufactures as I've had AFV kits that looked suspiciously like Tamiya's in the past.

I found one that may have Frog heritage if anyone can confirm
It was stored with these
Sorry for the Frog pic flood but this part of my stash does not get out that much

According to Scalemates, that one is not Frog

As interesting as all these maybe's are, there is no need to stretch credulity, actual Frog model kits are common as dirt, and often priced accordingly.
Makes one wonder if the reason they went out of business is that they produced far more product than they could sell.

I did see the Scalmates link but also came across this link but was not sure how accurate it is since it is a couple years old. You did so well with the Academy/Frog Avenger thought this might also liven things up...

I had a whole reply ready to go stating that the Yak 3 qualifies as a FROG..... and then I went back and read the link above which states everything I had said

Paid a visit to the Fleet Air Museum in Yeovilton this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised to find a small selection of pre-owned kits at the back of the gift shop. Quite a nice selection but some prices were a little high. I did however find a Matchbox HP Heyford, and a bagged Frog Westland PV3.
Decals are missing, but they would be unusable if they were still here. It is however missing the prop and transparencies. If anyone has these bits in the spares and are willing to part with them, it would help me out a great deal.
Thanks

I have a small collection of Airlines and Frog kits. I've never built any of these before so as a dry run I'm assembling an Airlines MS406 for the Anything Goes Campaign. I must say that I'm becoming a fan of the stands that were included in these kits. Assembly of the MS406 is straight forward and the 47 year old kit had very little flash or offending sink marks.

Shame on you Jonathan! Frog campaigns have to be hopping, not rolling
