Assignment #5: Stupendous Supermarines Sans Spitfires is now complete

I finally got the last of the rigging tidied up. I'm not too happy with the way the decals behaved on the upper wing. The carrier film is much too visible

You don't see one of them everyday! although Revell have re-released the beasty.

Lovely build Jessie. Pity about the decals. Will some future or similar blend them in a bit more?

It might, as might a little careful sanding along the edges. But that's for later, after the campaign is over.

Let us know how that works out, Jessica!

While deadline is approaching, I am making good headway.
The plane is fully assembeled, filled, sanded, and has been 9-step polished twice (1800 through 12000 + polishing towel): Once before the gloss base coat and once after. This pic is from yesterday before hitting it with the next layers of gloss base coat:

You can tell in a couple of spots that the plastic is polished like a mirror. Total polishing time is 'bout 15 hours now. The base has had a chance to cure for about 18 hours and I am on my way to give it a cotton polish before masking off the anti-glare panels und putting on the Alclad.

First time metal finish! Wish me luck!

Wishing you luck, Guido. You certainly put in your prep time. This should be good. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Thanks, Sean!

Here is what happened:

The Shooting Star after blackening

The bird after shooting chrome and Future:

... and the bird after decaling:

I am quite satisfied for a first-ever trial, but I have a lot to learn.

Hopefully I'll finish it tomorrow.

Cheers,
Guido

Andy----A fine looking D.520 indeed. Great job with the stripes.

Jessica----The Stanraer really looks good.

My Seafire FR.47 is done and uploaded into the gallery. This had been a really enjoyable campaign and a fine slew of models in this thread, as always.

Best wishes and happy modelling,

Ian

Thank you so much!

I am calling my second entry done.
It was NASA to meet you!

I am quite happy with it even tough I have learned that a perfect Alclad finish needs even more prep-work than I applied to this one.
Now I know what to do next time around!

It was an honour flying with you!

Cheers,
Guido

The Jar of Doom must be treated with respect and deference or the penalty is severe!

If the Campaign was due to end on the 31st of this month, well last month now, then it will never end.. Maybe that was the jars plan..

Mr Banger of Tins, what model is that? That is a nice scheme and I have always had a soft spot (in the head) for the Helldiver for some reason.. even going way back to the 1960's and Airfix it was one of the kits I always wanted but couldn't afford on pocket-money when it was in stock.

Mr Trumpeter, a 1/32 one would be nice..

Cheers
Warren

If the jar has taken our leader who will award the ribbon?

We currently have 11 member's photos in the Gallery. Has everyone remembered to upload there photos there?

The Campaign is over as there have been no extension requests and I am sure everyone wants there shint ribbons.

But I wonder where the keeper of the jar has gone?

That means we have an above 25% completion ratio. Is that good?
I am contributing to too few campaigns to know.
Anyway this one was excellent fun and I will be back for "The Lottery II".
May you all reside on the good side of The Jar of Doom!
Cheers,
Guido
