Sounds good to me Richard, but then again I've never used Alclad, and tend to avoid natural metal finishes like the plague. I will be watching with interest to see how yours turns out, as I have the DH Vampire T.11 for The Great Build Off, and I don't want to have to avoid a natural finish there!

That sounds a bit odd to me. The decals should -IMHO- be applied before the pigments: Dirt goes all over, doesn't it? Just asking...

Normally I'd agree. But I feel like the painted areas wouldn't oxidize. The paint would protect the aluminium...

Hungry to show some progress. Did the ordnance this morning. (forgot how tedious doing the ordnance is. Just about ready to seal up fuse then its a short trio to joining the wings and tail feathers. After that the real fun begins.

Great work there Fred!

This week, I have mostly been masking!

I should get the night blue sprayed on tomorrow, then there'll be a lot of careful unmasking, followed by yet more masking - such fun!

Well, manage time with my new daughter is as difficult as I expected, but gradually the things move on. The cockpit is pretty much done. It is a part of the kit that usually do not devote much time because most of the time (except for certain aircraft) is virtually unnoticeable after the kit is done. And now with the reduced time... Then's there's what I call a basic cockpit, without worry about some imperfections ... Panel with the same kit decal, belts made from tape just to fool;) Not a Eduard PE, but do his job ...
But some details in the painting will still be corrected.

Wow! This has really gone wild here! Great campaign so far!

I SPAD in the general direction of my stash and out dropped the SPAD which I timidly started. Cockpit parts primed and ready for paint.

For those who don't remember: I'm building this kit

and it's probably my first WWI build ever...

Cheers!

That looks pretty good to me Heitor, I wouldn't be disappointed if I came up with a cockpit like that.

Stefan I eagerly awaiting your build. Can't wait to see you tackle those stars and bars!

Here's where my fishbed is. I resanded it and applied fresh alclad where needed. The alclad just built up like sandpaper on the surface in places. Very frustrating...

I'm about 20% through the eight billion decals.

This is starting to feel like something I can clutch from the maw of failure.

Yeah, neither can I... I was thinking about going mad and doing the stars with masking, as some of them are one big decal with blue background and others are just the stars to be added on painted blue background. No chance of getting the same tone of blue, and no chance of getting the decal so sit nicely I suppose...

Cockpit almost done painting, next will be assembly.

Hi everyone, had a few family and friend issues overthe last month so not been on here much. Ben building the Tempest at odd times but forgot to photo the cockpit, the carpet monster ate the control column, and had a huge fit issue between the cockpit and the wheel wells, the injection parts fit well but the resin is a nightmare. Pics so far:
btw my other category is mail planes. By luck I have one in the stash, was going to use it for KOTS3 DH89 Dragon Rapide, Airfix (Heller?) in 1940 Scottish Airways colours. KOTs will now be a Hawker Fury in 1/48 scale

Oh, and Lee, don't worry about a metal finish for the Vampire, the fuselage is wood built (like a Mossie) so the whole aircraft has a painted silver finish rather than NMF

Phew! That was a lot of masking and unmasking. Here is a quick look at the cockpit before I attach the canopy:

After the canopy is faired in, I have another batch of masking, before spraying the next colour - fun fun fun!

Some real beauties here, and then there's mine.
Cockpit dials
Fuse together, wings begun
One of my first biplane models, and due to the struts and between-wing areas, I guess I'm about ready to paint.
More as it develops!

So I was merrily decalling away and I destroyed the serial number decal. It folded over and that was my goose cooked. These new fangled decals that are two electrons thick offer zero margin for error.

So now I'm missing the single most prominent marking on the aircraft for one side. Which is making me angry. The kit's new enough that not many people are going to have it laying around for me to get spares. I'm at trumpeter's mercy...

|:(

Andrew: that temp is looking mean. Looking forward to seeing it shiny.

Lee: you're a masking master. That's all there is to it.

Sean: sesquiplane... that's the classic Airframes kit right? How's it going together?

it's the Italeri Fiat CR42 Falco biplane-- no top wing yet. I just wrote an "in-box" review for it. I'm taking notes to make a build review afterward. So far it's got fine detail but there isn't as much positive part location as I would like.

I liked that Italieri CR42, for lack of positive location try my Tempest, although the injection stuff fits ok there are no locating aids and all the resin has to be cut to fit, sometimes drastically. Still, your CR42 is looking good. Richard I did the same with upper wing cockades on a. Roden 1 1/2 strutter so I robbed an Eduard Bristol Fighter, now I can't find replacements to build that

Just thought I'd make an update on my progress so far ..... none! The donor kit for my pontoons for the Beech went awol in the post! I've sourced another kit for it, while disappointing it's only the third kit to go MIA of all the many kits I've bought off of Evilbay! Just frustrating as I wanted to have it about halfway done by now .... ah well best laid plans of men and mice yadda yadda .... LOL

Some progress on the MIG-29. Got the base coats on for the underside and topside. Now for some freehand camo on the topside. Indeed the cuba airforce has some unique color schemes.
