The R3C-2 Curtiss Racer instructions say to pre-paint the parts first. I believe it based on my Porco Rosso hanger queen S6B! Also consideration needs to be given at this point for drilling holes for rigging and adding weights to the pontoons.
I'm going out on a limb and planning to do the blue, gold, black, olive, and orange paint scheme.

Thanks for the help guys.
The AJP kits look quite interesting, I might well be tempted with one of their cheaper/ simpler offerings maybe the Morane Saulnier H. I don't want to attempt anything above my skill level on expensive kits so maybe the Morane Saulnier H is a better choice given that it is a mono with less rigging than a lot of the others!
Thanks,
Philip.

So, anything with three motors, eh!!!
This is the one I was anxiously waiting for. I'm not about to put this lovely summer on hold, but, will try and work my way through this interesting kit. With the parts out of the bags, I can tell she's going to be a fairly large 1/72nd and definitely a weightier model.
And the games begin; as soon as is possible!
Ben that is fantastic,is it a German pod racer!!!!!!

I'm Thinking Fokker DR1 Triplane, definitively an engine to take for a spin.

17. "Missed Opportunities" Build an aircraft that NEARLY made it. But didn't. Think Avro Arrow or TSR2.
I’ve got No.17 and I am going to do a TSR2. This lottery has turned out well as I’ve been looking for an excuse to get one of these.
I do have one question though. Can I build this as a “What if” aircraft?

Thanks Jessica. I might still use the kit decals, but I have an idear for one in Australian service, say the RAAF didnt buy F-111's from the US but got some TSR's from the Mother country.

That would have been an interesting twist, kind of like the US buying two for test and evaluation purposes. Picture a grey and white bird with NASA on the tail.

Great idea John. One of my clubmates has a habit of bringing RAAF What-If's to our meetings, and usually has a great background story made up to go with them.
A couple of examples HERE and HERE , and my favourite HERE .
Good luck with your build, I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
Anyway, down to business......timestamp pics as requested.
I might just get a start on some sub-assemblies this weekend.
Cheers, D

Hi everyone,
I have the following lottery result;
#32 "Pearl Diving" Build any aircraft that participated in the attack on/defense of Pearl Harbour. Must be correct markings and scheme for Dec 7, 1941.
So I have three kits for this to try and cover the subject better, I may do more depending on how things pan out.

I will be using Starfighter decals for the P-40 and SBD-3

Andrew,
Check this out, I'm doing one for the Smurf Scale Campaign. I would like to see a fellow modeler do on in order to share construction techniques.

Aaaaagh, another one not in the stash, the Mason Jar of Doom is devious. Brent, anything is a possibility at the moment, 1/144 scale is smaller than I normal work in, but I like the subject. I last flew in one of those in June 1999 and remember waiting in Minneapolis for a couple of hours while the ground handlers found a spot big enough to take the wingspan. To add insult to injury the aircraft had a defective APU (it was hot) and a lady a few seats away was having hysterics because she was late for her sister's wedding. Considering options at the moment

Andrew,
Airlines and passengers have certainly changed since I started flying in the 1960's. The 727 is a pleasing to look at air craft. Airfix did a better though older 727 that could also be used, I've also seen decals for DHL, UPS, and Fed Ex for various models. Starship modeler even sold a couple of sets of spaceliner decals for modeling. Imagine the 2001 space clipper lettered for Fed Ex!

My kit arrived today from Squadron (luckily it was not on that FEDEX truck that rolled over on I-5 this morning):
I am thinking about building one as the Dr1 that Richthofen meet his demise in, so where can I find on-line good refs of the paint scheme of the genuine Dr1 Red Baron rather than the "Charlie Brown" paint scheme that everyone associates with this plane. WW1 aircraft are new too me (Korea is my era of choice), so pardon any ignorance or lack of knowledge !

There's a fairly good picture here. The actual paint scheme is pretty close to the popular image, but as you can see the detail differences are critical

Officially putting in my request for a lot to be drawn.

Yowzah! That looks like a challenge.
Step one: Google.
Step Two: Consult my stash
Step three: Local hobby shop
Step four: (assuming I haven't found success by 2 or 3) eBay

Between Peru and Chile (longstanding rivals) you'll have a bird. You'll just need decals!
