This thread will record my experiences building this model for inclusion into my larger shadowbox diorama "The Contenders,Vimy 1917." Due to the latest changes it will be re-titled

This will not be a review in the regular sense of the word.It is not an "out of the box"kind of build but one where I use this model as part of a larger storyboard shadowbox diorama.
My methods of building are my own and do not necessarily correspond with the normal practice of step-by-step model building. The plans and the instruction booklet that comes with this model will be for reference only. The text will be integrated with the pictures.Things will constantly change as I go along ,and there will be some experimenting as the build progresses ,as this will be a learning experience for me as well.
I haven't built a plastic airplane model in 14 years so I will also have to re-learn a lot of things as well as get up to date with modern building practices.
The pictures will not be professional looking but will be taken at my workbench in real day to day time. There will be mistakes made and a few trips down the wrong path on occasion but that is part of the fun in the creative process. There will be gaps in the build at times when I am researching or building other things for the diorama.I have other threads for these topics that will not be included here.

Now that I have the Camel's trailer built to a point where I can now use it as a building platform and jig ,I will proceed with more of the build of the airplane. I want to permanently glue down one wheel to the platform so that I can slide the aircraft on and off while I am working on it.
Now it is on to figuring a building jig out using the attached sprues.

John, While I've never built, or even attempted to build a WWI aircraft, being a WWII-Cold war era guy. I've looked at this Hasegawa kit for some time as a special build. So I'll be following your every step, and learning what I can from your build.
Needless to say, I'm looking forward to your next update.

Hi Joel ! I am happy that you are enjoying it. Yes it is a special kit with it's own unique way of building it. The instruction booklet is OK but could be a problem for a beginning WWI modeler. Even for a more experienced modeler it is not just a matter of gluing fuselage halves together or working with already made wings. Some knowledge of how an aircraft is actually put together is required.
I am happy to see Hasagawa take a whole new direction with plastic kits, they are much more challenging than usual and more rewarding to build. I hope that this is just the first of many to come. WnW has taken the old methods of building and historical accuracy to a whole new level but this kit and diorama making,in my opinion, are the next level up in our hobby.Cheers! John.

John, your technique is very convincing. I'm assuming that it's from sanding with a course grit of paper.

John, Looking at your last set of pictures, the filed then washed parts really have a wood look to them.
