I'm in withe the new Airfix 1/72 Dornier 17z.
I'll be taking the kit from the recently released Dogfight Double set which includes the new BP Defaint. A great set that represents good value for money given the rrp of the individual kits and the included extras.


The Defiant comes individually bagged, as does the stand and acrylic paints and brushes. I can't see these paints being enough to finish both kits but I suppose it gets the targeted audience (kids and first time modelers) back to buy the bigger pots.

And the Dornier.

Full colour painting instructions are provided which are big improvement over the old black and white drawings.

A few extras I'll be using. Peewits canopy masks, I'm eager to see how these work compared with Eduards and a some figures from Preiser. This set includes a bomber crew being briefed before take off so planning on building a small diorama from it.


Now, the really cool thing about this kit is the included markings. The Dornier is finished in the markings of the one recovered from Goodwin Sands a few years ago and the Defiant is the aircraft that shot it down. A great idea I think.
If I have time I'll also build the Defiant.

Airfix 1/24 Hurricane is ready to go on the production line - just got to complete the Revell 1/32 Mossie first.

Dave, just those two planes must take up a lot of real estate!

Here will be my entry.
Yes I plan to try and fix the banana shape and scratch some type of interior.
I will decide on markings along the way.....Probably something from KG76

Nice work Dave! I was thinking about doing this kit but now that you've started, not so sure.

Anyone have any idea when the new Airfix 1/48 Hurri and Spit will be out?

Just because I'm doing this Hurri, no reason you can't as well. Be careful though 'cos the moulds are shot. I left the engine out because the bearers are warped, the lower wing is warped one way and the wheel wells the other.......nearly as much flash as parts. If I hadn't got this one dirt cheap I'd be well p*ssed off.

The new 1/48 Spit and Hurri are supposed to be cracking kits, so probably a good way to go!

Progress so far - after a night with clamps holding the wheel bay in place (see previous post!), main assembly is done. Painting tomorrow.
I know I get comments on the speed at which I work, but I've had three days of being able to model 6-7 hours a day. Modern glues and acrylic paints have really speeded things up too.

I can only dream of days when I get that much time to work on kits during the day.
I think I will probably not start mine in earnest till I complete my Vac Build.

Finished 1/24 Airfix Hurricane. All brush painted, and apart from some of the detail I used the small pots that came with the kit.

One hefty piece of Hurricane you've got there Dave . You're without doubt our first finisher around, myself have hardly looked at the plastic yet !

Quick question here... despite the abundance of possibilities to build a documented BoB Emil, I have an old love for a late 1939 specimen, based on a lifelike sheet.
Now, I have no evidence that this particular AC got involved in channel action, but it is virtually indistinguishable from other early BoB Emils (high 65 scheme with 02/71 splinter uppersurfaces). Can I go with it?

If the camo scheme is BoB and the unit was involved in the BoB, I'm not going to get too picky.

Hi All,

Before I start my art work to print my decals I was wondering if anyone can help identify this AC if crashed in Britain during the BoB.

I like the 3/KG 76 emblem but I can not identify anything other than the K on the crash Image and not sure who did other image and where it is from.

So before I go to the Luftwaffe Forum I thought I'd ask here first.

It is either between doing one from this or 9/KG76 that I have identified in the BoB.

Mostly my choice is basically because I haven't seen to many 1/48 in this markings.

Peter! A true classic and for many of my age a dream kit ! Never got around to building it though and today my interest lays in the smaller scales!

Nice one Peter! I've got an older version of the kit and would kind of like to do Wick's markings but all those tiny paint splotches make me nervous. Still, easier in 1/24 than 1/48 (or, God forbid, 1/72)!
