Another of Google's famous wrinkles perhaps? The Do17 looks just outstanding Radek, nicely colourful and the pre-shading shows up a treat.

Thanks for good words
That's a very strange stuff with Uncle G... if you store images on Google Drive or Google Pics you can only get "soft links" which cannot be directly linked with BB-Code as they redirect you to "photo album" reference.
But if you post image on Google+, then you can get the "solid link" - the one that ends up with file extension (e.g. *.jpg) and it can be easily linked with img command of BB-Code.
User-friendlines at its finest

@Thomas, thank you. I'll keep the fingers crossed for your struggle with engine fitting.

Linus: Very nice progress on Your Messerschmitt. How is this kit? The engine looks nicely detailed.

Radek: Your flying pencil looks really good. Camo and decals are spot on!

My Anteater is finished now. After a dark brown wash, just a little weathering with some pigments was done. The landing gear and props are assembled, so here it is:

Hope You like!

Oliver, congratulations on getting finished, that is a lovely little build. Very well done.

Radek, the markings look good, I am looking forward to the weathering stage now.

One month to go folks, we have 3 completed builds in the gallery . and 12 in-progress builds. The Roll Call/Build Status post on page 1 has been updated once again.

@Oliver: Excellent work Oliver the Do335 has turned out very well. Even with the curves the kit threw at you you've turned it into a winner!

Update time! Masks have arrived and I'm applying them to the Dornier, obviously not an exact match so a little surgery is needed.

Thanks for the kind words to everyone.

It has been a great pleasure to build this kit in this thread. Maybe, I can find some time to put it in a little dio.

Howdee

Thank you for support, guys

@Oliver - wow! the DO-335 looks spot on!
@Tom - good job on Hs

I have made some progress with weathering of my Do-17

I've started with general wash made of dry pastels, water and a drop of soap. I like this technique as it's very forgiving and gives great results.
Next I made some fuel/liquid stains with oils (do they look too harsh? It was my first try.
Afterwards a little bit of engine soot made of Tamiya Smoke and Rubber Black (heavily dilluted).

Here are the effects:

But not everything went as intended
When I removed the masks (Eduard ones) from cockpit it turned out I failed miserably on this task, which seems so easy
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but as you can see on picture below there are some strange afwul stains and some paint chipped when I removed masks... Any tips?

next - finishing, adding last unglued elements and final retouches.

Cheers,
Radek

Ps. Let me know, if you can see images correctly (G+ again )

Hi Radek.

Great update, lots of really nice work there. The weathering looks really good.
The stains should be able to be removed easily with a Q-tip dipped in alcohol.
With the canopy masking, do you treat your clear parts with Future before fitting them? A couple of neat tricks worth trying, once you have applied the masks, give the area a quick spray with matt clear to seal around the edges of the mask and prevent paint seeping under, then when the top colour is cured use a new blade to gently run around the edges of the masking and separate the mask from the frame on the canopy. This will stop the paint lifting when you remove the mask.
A couple of quick touch-ups and your build will look really good.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, D

Tom, very nice work. I really like the desert scheme and that evil belly-cannon.

Looking forward to the final assembly pics.

What a waste of good vodka
I'll give it a try, but it seems like those stains are inside, that makes it a little bit difficult and it seems my one arm-bombardier has already drank everything he had with him

No, I didn't. That said it might be an answer to all my earlier tries and failures. Soon I'll be starting something else and I will definitely seal the clear parts before masking them!
I understand that I can use any kind of gloss varnish instead of Future (I can't find it here)?

Radek, the weathering looks very good to me. I#m not thinking you overdone it. And the canopy is not bad at all when someone looks at the whole bird. Very nice job so far!

Tom, nice and clean build. I think you should try to blend the exhaust stains a bit as they look quite harsh.

Not much further. While I'm waiting for the glued fuselage to bond for filling/sanding later on I went on for the clear parts. The nose is made of 5 separate parts (the tip stays clear and will be glued later) and I cut some time-consuming masks out of Tamiya tape. The frames of all clear parts are weak and hard to observe.
The Boulton-turret lacks any interior details except the Browning (have to drill out the holes) and is made of two halves. To give a bit more life (well, you won't see much after paint and assembly) I try to make a inner frame cutting a piece of styrene and sanded it in shape. Maybe I do also a kind of stand for the gun.

Radek, dziekueje za mily komentarz. Your Dornier looks excellent.
Thomas, as of the exhaust stain, they do look a little bit harsh, but if you look at the photo of the capture plane

it looks harsh. Plus on the desert camo they will look even more "aggressive" then on dark green/ocean grey camo.
The whole a/c will resive a 5% Tamiya Buff coat to bland in the camo too, so it will take a bit of the harshness away.

Tom: Very nice progress with Your camo and weathering! Do You know the reason for the extensive exhaust stains on the HS?

Radek: Wow, the Dornier´s weathering and camo look really great. But don´t waste vodka on the exterior of the cockpit. It is for inside application only .

Thomas: Fine scratch built extras. This will definitely look good! And in the end, You know it is there!

Wow, I've really missed a lot recently! Everyones builds are coming along really nicely.
Oliver, great work on the Do235. It's an unusual looking beast and I really do need to get one for the collection.
Radek, your 17 is also looking great. I love the weathering, really makes it look like a war weary bomber.
Tom, the Henschell looks fantastic in desert colours. One mean looking aeroplane!

I've managed to do a little more on my Whitley, this time tackling the rear fuselage. I've decided to button up the hatches to save time on painting and weathering this part of the model. I glued in the floor as I found it added some structural strength to this part. Of note is the large circular cutout in the forward section. In early marks a retractable belly turret was mounted here and in later versions it became a convenient hatch to drop paratroops, SOE agents or supply canisters. This area of the model cannot be seen when it's all glued together and I do wonder if this means that Airfix plan at least one other variant.
I also added the rear mounted wind deflectors (parts D5 and 6) at the opening for the rear turret. The instructions have you add these in the last steps before fitting the turret, but I did some test fitting and found that it is far easier to do so now. And finally fir the fuselage roof. Care must be taken when assembling all these parts, I used a little too much glue in a few places and I think I might have ruined some of the panel lines. Although complex, it does all fit quite well.

Planning on getting the cockpit finished up over the weekend and getting the nose halves together.

Hi Stephen nice to see you making progress. The Whitley is an aircraft that I've some interest in and the new Airfix kit is simply stunning in it's detail. The scope of the detail and the thought that has been applied to the the kit's construction is mind boggling. I've added this to my must have list, I look forward to seeing it completed.

Mark good luck with the PV1 I also have one stalled at the moment, I'm at the the point where I'm replacing the kit barrels with aftermarket brass ones. It will eventually be a RNZAF one ..... when I get around to finishing it that is.

Thomas, nice job on the added details, it is in the enjoyment of the build and not necessarily what you can see once it is all closed up!

Stephen, a good heads up on the complexity of the build, but it is good to hear that the fit is good. A quick swipe with the Xacto should restore the lost panel lines.

Mark, photos please, show us those radials.

eMan, great looking cockpit tub and the major assembly looks to be very nice fit. Any issue with the progress so far?

Roll Call/Build Status post updated once again, I'm really enjoying all of these progress reports folks.

Hi guys!
Stephen, nice to see one more in the row

Damian, thanks and totally agree

Moving on slowly there was some fiddling work on the turret and a lot of putty`n sanding
Well, honestly you have to fill every single bonded connection - so if anyone wants to build this be sure to have enough putty on the desk.

And before painting/closing the turret here's what you`ll find inside (instead only the plain gun that was brought with the kit)

So, now back to the bench, adjusting the wings and get this thing in shape...
Thomas
