Tom,
Fantastic looking Henschel! I like that you took the photos out in real light on a desert-ish looking base.
Raj,
Good looking P-38! Those propeller spinners look great!

Raj: Congrats for finishing! And indeed it's a beauty, the NMF looks nice Very well done on your P-38!
Tom: Also congrats and it's nice to see your Henschel well done finished. Very good paint job on this camo and overall look. And as I can see it also on "Lap Man's" Hs129 (great work there eMan!) the exhaust stains are definitely that obvious.
Stephen: Good to see your progress; very good work on filling and sanding to overcome the fit issues.
Thomas

Hi Folks, hope you all have had or still have a nice weekend!
Spend a little time outside, even with the Hudson. A day before I gave a shiny gloss and then decaling. Then giving some decent panel line wash and weathering with my own brands. After that a dull coat over all with Gunze Aequos flat clear. First it went out with a kind of white mist but overnight it's gone just to flat claer .
Now I can see the finish line coming close...

Thomas,
Looks great! I prefer natural sunlight to artificial light for model building.

Looks very nice, Thomas.

Hello everybody, life keeps me actually very busy, as can sen by the many lovely birds, that have been finished here, since my last visit.
Raj: Very nice looking P-38 You built there. Congratulation! I will need to built a NMF plane next time, too!
Tom and eMan: Congrats for Your Henschels, too. These are really awesome looking planes.
Thomas: Very nice photos, I will give it a try and take a picture of my dio outside if the weather is clear.
So far, here are some pictures of my dio, taken with artificial light:
Some details:
Hopefully nobody notices the oil-leak!

Oliver: Very well done on the Dio! Nicely weathered & rusted and cute details like the "wheel-checker" and the brick corner. It's also usable for many other subjects too.
Guys, let’s go for the final round and my last (?) gallery in this campaign. I love taking pics and always enjoy looking at other ones galleries. Hope you do as well, so please excuse the following bunch of photos as I couldn't resist to take more than needed.
All were made outside on a partial cloudy morning (funny how the colors went out in different shades while the light changed steadily).
And it's Lockheed Hudson Mk.II, No.5120, 206 Squadron, Royal Air Force, Bircham Newton, June 1940.
Who followed the build of this kit while the campaign, realized the major issues and the very need of dry fitting, filling & sanding. The fitting and fixing of some main parts are sometimes a challenge. On the other hand it’s the only available kit (origin by MPM; re-boxed by Italeri and Revell) in 1/72 and one have to live with those misfits.
The recommended skill-level 5 is very realistic.
Although I already shortened them, the provided nose guns are still far too big in size and are just a scrappy piece of styrene (took them anyway). Clear parts of canopy and nose are acceptable while the side windows have streaks.
(I also managed finally to give the nose tip a crack on both sides-f***).All parts are still under a tension and the bond seams hence are weak.
Anyway I’m quite happy to finish it whilst it was more work than pleasure. I was able to practice some new and old techniques, so it made sense.
Damian , thanks a lot for hosting this campaign – was again a big pleasure! All you Twin-builders did great jobs and I appreciate to those who commented or just watched - it was really fun to take part here!
Cheers everybody ,
thank's for looking, enjoy your day! Thomas

Oliver, great diorama! The reference of the figures against the aircraft and the hangar door give a wonderful sense of scale and the size of the Do335, it is actually quite a large aircraft! You have put together a really nice little scene, very well done.
Thomas, beautiful work on the Hudson and very well done getting this build completed. Your weathered paintwork came up very well, and you overcame some difficulties during the build to get to this point. Thank you so much for taking part and for sharing so much detail during your build.
Cheers, D

I agree with Gaz, a build like this one deserves as many photos as you want to put up for us, well done.
By my reckoning we have 9 completed builds now and a few that are very close to finished. About 3 weeks to go in the extension period, let's get as many finished as possible and fill the gallery.
Cheers, D

Oliver, great work on the Dornier and your diorama. The weathering on the outside of the building is very realistic. The figures do give a good sense of scale (I had not realised quite how big it was!) and tell a a story. Maybe a few words before the test flight while the groundcrewman checks the breaks.
Thomas, the Hudson has finished up well. I like your photographs, the lighting conditions outside have brought out a lot of the detail.
My Whitley is progressing to the point where I now have something which looks like an aeroplane. A couple of small gaps at the wingroot, but I filled them with Valejo's water based putty. Smear it on, let it dry for a minute or so and then wipe of the excess with a damp cotton bud. Simple and quick, I'll be using that a lot in the future! A huge thanks to Joel_W for giving me the advice on using it.
Just need to add the elevators, rudders and canopy and she'll be ready for some paint. I'm glad I've decided to go with the all black scheme, it will certainly be quick to apply!

Good day guys,
@Raj
Superb finishing on P-38, looks fantasting.
@Thomas
Hudson looks fantasting, mate!
@Oliver
Diorama looks really cool, great addon to put 335 on.
@eMan
Top notch finishing on Henschel!
@Tom
Tom, Hs-129 wygląda fantastycznie - Hs-129 looks amazing!
Now let's get back to my struggle with Do-17... well... techncially struggle with myself to get it done.
After few weeks of busy time outside the workbench I finally got it finished. Few minor tweaks, some corrections and it's there
I used new photo booth I bought cheap in one of the stores... it's too small for my liking, but hope it's okay with pics.
And here's how looks my "vision of the plane", Do-17Z from 8.Staffel./Kampfgeschwader 77, which was shot down over Tonbridge, Kent on 3rd July 1940 ~17.00.
Crew:
Pilot: Unteroffizier Richard Branders, survived wounded;
Observer: Oberleutnant Hans-Georg Gallion, survived badly wounded;
Radio/Op: Obergefreiter Erich Hoffmann, killed;
Flt/Eng: Unteroffizier Waldermar Theilig, killed.
(pictures of the downed plane can be found here)
Four reference photos of the model uploaded into gallery.
It was fun guys and thanks for great subject I still have some 2 engined stuff on shelf... but so few time, I'll have to find another cause to build them
Cheers,
Radek

Really excellent work here, I'm glad D decided to extend the campaign!
Speaking of which (glad for the extension, that is) I hereby present the Tamiya 1/32 Mosquito FB.VI, 487 Sqn. RNZAF, Operation Jericho, February, 1944.
The sharp-eyed among you will spot "the part that got away". Some day it'll turn up...
I know everyone says this kit is a real dog, but I really enjoyed it! Seriously, this kit is everything we've come to expect from these great Tamiya kits. Great fit, detail, features, etc. But, as usual, if you don't get everything lined up perfectly it's tough to get those engine panels to be removable. Oh well, we can't have everything.
Recommendation? Get several, even if you have to mortgage the house! (Oh, and if you do and you don't plan to use the single exhaust pipes on one of them, drop me a line.)

Stephen, looking good mate. It must be a big relief to get the major assembly stages behind you and on to the painting. I really need to get hold of some of the Vallejo water based putty, I keep hearing very good things about it.
Radek, lovely build, the finish and weathering look really nice. The individual aircraft history is a great touch as well. Thanks for taking part and congratulations on getting this build on the display shelf.
Michael, super job on the big Mossie. Check your individual aircraft references though, I think you will find that the missing exhaust was actually shot off by some accurate ground small arms fire during a strafing run! Well done on getting this one built, its a beaut.
Just over 2 weeks to go folks, it's been a thoroughly enjoyable few months.
Cheers, D

Radoslaw,
Great looking Dornier! I like the heavy weathering and streaking you've done!
Michael,
Your Mossie looks great. I like the detail you've put into the weapons bay. ...and I didn't even look for the missing exhaust until Damian mentioned it.

Nice clean looking paint job Richard, what paint did you use?
10 days to go, down to the wire on the extended time frame now folks. By my reckoning we have 11 completed builds, I'm really happy with that, with a couple more likely to get across the line.
Roll Call/Build Status post updated.

I used auto motive flat black from a spray can, I used many light coats to build up the paint.

Radek, great work on your Do17. The painting and weathering is very nicely done. Interesting to read the story and see the photos of the crashed aircraft. Sometimes it's all too easy to forget the reality of the subjects we build and a reminder like this is often a good thing. Brave men all of them.
Interestingly the German cemetery at Cannock Chase is not too far from where I live. I must make a point to visit one day.
Micheal, your Mossie turned out brilliantly! I've taken your recommendation on board and added it to my wish list. I'm finding that 1/32 is a scale I can really grow to like. It will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine!
My build continues. Afraid I wasn't able to do much at the weekend. My better had had me tiling the kitchen on Saturday, but that was a small price to pay as I got to go to RAF Cosford Airshow on Sunday.
Have been able to do some work the last couple of nights, mostly little jobs before I spray it. I cleaned up the transparencies tonight ready for masking tomorrow. All good but the turret transparencies need the most work. Both front and rear need the gun ports trimming to allow the barrels to fit through. Both parts of the rear turret need some whitling to get them to fit and most annoying of all Airfix put a great big sprue attachment point right in the middle of a large glazed section! Well done. Other parts on the clear sprue had the attachment points on the lower mating surfaces so they could be sanded out easily and be out of sight. But not this one! I've tried to polish it out as best I can, but it's not brilliant.
I will persist with it.

Looks great in all over black! I might be tempted to get myself one these. The price is very reasonable given the large size and I do love the old Beau. Do you know the origins of the kit? Is it a Matchbox or Monogram reissue? I know Revell have reissued Matchbox's 1/32 line in the past but I don't know for certain if a Beaufughter was part of the series.
Posted: Thursday, June 23, 2016 - 04:03 PM UTC
Stephen Richard's beau is the old Monogram offering re-boxed with new decals. The interior is just about non-existent and what there is doesn't really resemble the real thing, the Hercules radials are a good starting point but need work. BUT it is the only offering in this scale! It is also the super detailers dream just have your references handy!
