Hp Hampden as complete as it is going to get

Thanks for running the campaign, I enjoyed looking at everyone elses models. Although I need more time, I think I need more talent as well. Oh well, you have to play the cards you are dealt!

Experience is the greatest tool in the modellers arsenal Andrew, that and an ability to pick up useful advice and techniques, which is why you're here after all?! I spent many years giving into my fear of my perceived issues with airbrushes it wasn't until I actually bought one and started gaining experience with it that my models jumped up to the next level. And I gained some serious XP points to borrow a gaming term.

You've got all the talent in the world it's just the experience to use those talents that needs honing.

Nice job Andrew, congrats on getting finished. The Hampden always looks so fragile to me, a decent bit of turbulence and that tail end might just snap off.
Like Chris said, nothing ventured, nothing gained. The only way to really learn is to give it a go.

Well, with two weeks left in this campaign, I have no update photo to share. I'll likely miss the deadline, but I'll keep pushing on this one.
My plan to modify the gun nose into a glass one was foolhardy at best-- I had assumed the bottom profile was the same, but no such luck! I'm too far along on this kit, but I don't want to finish it as a gun nose, and I don't want to invest in an entire new kit off Ebay or wherever for a new nose. I'll keep plodding along. I have confidence that I will eventually succeed!
I haven't begun cutting and shaping the crew into place either, or really come up with a plan for masking and painting the outside.
Nonetheless, I'll share what I do as it comes, but now we're also making plans to sell the house in 2 months, so packing up the workshop is beginning too.
Cheers!

Actually experience isn't the problem, time and work are. Keep working away and you can only do limited work in hotel room. It also makes you take shortcuts that never come out properly. I have built much better but my last few have not been good. I think I need to find a nice 1/48 kit in the stash and start again.

Managed to get a fair bit done on the Whitley today.
Cockpit and nose halves are together as are the wings and engine nacelles. Did a dry fit of all three sub-assemblies and I was relieved to find they fit easily and well.
I'll get some pics up tomorrow.

ANDREW: congratulations for finishing, very nice build of a not often seen bird. And you are right, if the building process has too many shortcuts it's hard to resume.

SEAN: sorry to hear that but maybe you can do it anyway? And as for myself I have to admit that my Hudson is harder to build than I thought. So also for me the deadline is too near!

MAYBE AN EXTENTION FOR THIS CAMPAIGN, DAMIAN ??

STEPHEN: good to hear about some progress of the Whitley, waiting to see some pics.

Meanwhile I got the turret painted and brought together as well as the wings and the nose. Masked the canopy with Tamiya tape and prepainted some (nose for interior color and underwing to avoid heavy masking around the funny shape of the wheelbay). There is a lot of tension between the big parts while glueing and aligning/fit wasn't easy.
... and guess where more putty is needed ...

Thomas, your Hudson is looking great. Is it the Revell 1/48?
The Hudson is one of of the more attractive twins built in the war years, unlike my choice! Lets face it, the Whitley is hideous! If it were a child it's parents would have to tie a steak around it's neck to get the family dog to play with it. Old joke I know

As promised a few pics from yesterday.

Fit and detail of the interior parts is quite good. I think the provided decal map adds some life to the interior. On the full size aircraft the navigators chair is on rails, designed to swivel and move back and forward. Rather than glue the seat directly square with the table I fitted it at a slight angle. Seat belts were made from the protective paper on the kits decals. Painted with Tamiya XF-78 Deck Tan and sliced into thin strips. How about that for OOB building! A simple and effective way of making belts at 1/72 and perfectly fine under heavily framed canopies.
One problem I did find was that the under nose crew hatch does not fit in the closed position and just falls into the hole. I solved this with some plastic strip glued on the inside of the hatch. The hatch is also very thick and is best replaced if modelling it open. Not sure if Eduard provide a replacement on their PE set.
The interior parts fit very tightly between the nose halves and I found I had to use a clamp to get them together.

Next up the engine nacelles. I found a mistake in the instructions here and one I should have spotted earlier. Airfix would have you fit the radiators (parts C17) into the fronts of the openings AFTER glueing both halves (D15-17 and D16-18) of the nacelles. Guess what? They don't fit like this! They need to be fitted to one side BEFORE both halves go together. I only spotted it after. Luckily the glue was still soft and I was able to pry the front halves apart just enough to fit the radiators in. If I had waited till the glue had cured I would have been ordering new nacelles from Airfix spare parts. They are simply too big for the openings to go in the way Airfix say.

Interestingly the engine firewalls have detail (although simple) on their reverse sides. This won't be seen!

Wow, nice progress Andrew! Office's looking great
I wonder why nearly all of the Twins in this campaign suffer more or less issues??

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but sure all of the Electras and Super Electras/Hudson are cuties.
The kit is Revell's 1/72 (similar to Italeri's MK IV/V, all from the acient MPM-kit). A short run kit far away from actual moldings.

Whew, nice work everyone!

The decals and dullcoat are on the Tamiya 1/32 Mossie. I might just make it!

I love the flurry of activity that happens in the last month of a Campaign! We think we have plenty of time, but that end date just sneaks up and smashes us, and I am hopeless at time management when it comes to this hobby! I always have several builds on the go so I have options as to what I feel like working on, but that inevitably just works as a distraction and delay when it comes to time sensitive builds.
I have no problem extending this for a few more weeks with the approval of our Admin superpowers, a few of the builds here have proven to be complex and troublesome, and I would love to see them get across the line without a mad rush and cutting corners.

Michael, that big Mossie looks superb, excellent work and ver close to completion now.

Stephen, that interior detail looks very nice, great job. A few tips for unwary players coming from your build as well, but nothing too sinister if some test-fitting is carried out I suppose. Obviously you are required to perform some cutaway work on the nacelles to display the back of the firewall, and then add some more detail of your own, so best you get onto that!

Thomas, excellent work getting the major assembly done, it seems to have fought you all the way so far but it looks good.

Sean, sorry to hear that you won't get done here, but it is a project that definitely deserves to be followed through. Best of luck with the house sale and relocation, I hope all goes according to plan.

Roll Call/Build Status post back on Page 1 is updated again.

2 weeks of official time to go, then hopefully into extra time.

Cheers, D

Damien, there are a couple of cooling flaps on the bottom of each nacelle that can be posed open and I think that is the reason behind the detail on the firewall. Even so it can't be seen anyway. No doubt an AM engine set will become available in the near future but I'm not going down that route with this build! Keeping it simple so I can finish without rushing.

You talkin' to me?! I expect more servile language (ie: pleading) when asking for such a boon.

Actually, far as I'm concerned, it's up to you D. Let me know how far out you want to push it.

Andrew: Congrats for finishing. Hope You find a nice kit in Your stash, that will be more pleasing to You!

Sean: Sorry for Your delay. Nonetheless, I like to see more of Your built in the past-campaign time.

Thomas: Wow, there is really a lot of filling and sanding on this rather new kit. It seems like puttying together the parts. Turrets looks great!

Stephen: Beautiful office, You built there with nice details. What is the target of the navigator?

Michael: The Mossie looks great! As I remember, this one is 1/32 scale. As I mainly build 1/72, I ask myself, how much paint is needed for this size.

I just began to make a little dio for the Anteater. Starting with a little base of plaster and a hangar of some styrene and old CD-frames for the windows.

But, concerning figure painting I am a bit clumsy. So, Damian, some more time would be nice .

Oliver, lovely work on the base so far, it looks great.

Michael, I would be happy to push the end date out another month, there are a few builds in progress that could use that time to get a really good result.

Thank you Sir, we are barely worthy of your magnanimity!

Ok guys, get cracking before Michael changes his mind and rains down thunder and lightning and short-shot parts and Sprue flash on all of our stashes 😉

Michael, great work on the Mosquito - looks beautiful! Those decals must be huge.

Wasn't lazy and try not to waste extra time.
So while some of the putty is still drying (because newly applied... ; means I dry-fitted the canopy 500 times and regardless finally there is A gap - don't know why) I started partially painting/masking. Underside is already done, pics next time.

Thomas, eMan, great to see the paintwork commencing. Looking good.

Joel has completed his B-25 build and the result is definitely worth taking the time to have a really good look at. In fact it is worth taking the time to go back over the entire build log thread if you have some time and a big mug of coffee! The final page of his build has 18 images of the finished build and can be found HERE.

Roll Call/Build Status post updated.

Cheers, D
