Stephen Richard's beau is the old Monogram offering re-boxed with new decals. The interior is just about non-existent and what there is doesn't really resemble the real thing, the Hercules radials are a good starting point but need work. BUT it is the only offering in this scale! It is also the super detailers dream just have your references handy!

Not to be argumentative, but I believe it was a Revell kit originally, not Monogram.

Thanks, my lhs has recently gotten a few in so I might treat myself. I also have plenty of references, cutaway drawings and the new Airfix kit to use as a reference. I'd only concentrate on the cockpit and gunners area anyway. I'm pretty sure I've seen a resin Vickers K being sold somewhere. Curious that Revell did the Mk.1 and not the more numerous TF.X though.
Anyway, I'd best continue with the Whitley for know.

Hi Michael I will bow to your superior knowledge mon General! When I built the kit back in the very early 80's it was in a Monogram box and I erroneously assumed it was from the Monogram stable.

I'm just old! Back in the '70s (I think) Revell put out quite a line up of 1/32 kits. The Beau was one of the them. They were really hot stuff at the time!

Painting today.
Primed and then sprayed the bottom black. When that's dry I'll do the upper side, turret's props and spinners.
I'm using Vallejo's model-air paints and I have to say I am impressed by their ease of use. Why have I never used them before?

All moulding data shows this as a RV-MM inc 1974.
Ready to decal and add small details:-

This model cost me $24 and has given me my moneys worth!

Looks great Richard. Can't wait to see it finished. It's also payday in a couple of days and I might just have to make a trip to the model shop.

And here's where mines at..

Now, how does that Rolling Stones song go about painting everything black?

Another first for me with this build was using Eduards pre-cut masks. While I have serveral for kits in the stash I'd never got around to using any yet. Really saved a lot of time and my sanity.

Richard, on the home stretch now, looking good!

Stephen, great to see some colour on the Whitley. I have heard good things about the Vallejo Model Air range, might be time to give it a try soon.

Cheers, D

I'm impressed with them so far. I used their primer first and after that had dried shot the matt black. Built up a couple of thin coats to try to limit paint runs. Think I have a couple but I'll see how they look when properly dry. Big advantage was being able to spray straight from the bottle (although I may add a drop of thinner next time) and easy clean up. Never used any brand of paint as user friendly before. They even have a pleasant smell. Not I'm recommending sniffing them. Lol. I'll certainly be stocking up some more colours.

Well gentlemen I'm calling this one done! It was an interesting build to say the least. I've thoroughly enjoyed the campaign and learned a few things along the way. Here are some pics of the "twin twins". I'll get some pics into the campaign gallery in the next day or so.

Great job Chris, a really unique build to have in the display cabinet. The splinter camo on both builds with different colours sets it off, and the markings and weathering look really good.

Congrats on getting finished and thanks for taking part and sharing your work with us here.

That gives us 12 completed builds with 2 more very close to the finish line, definitely a great result already!

Roll Call/Build Status post updated.

Cheers, D

Look great Chris and again shows what can be done with even an old kit.

I glossed the Whitley last night as well as painted the undercarriage and a few other little bits. Decals will go on later.
I also picked up Revells big Beaufighter after work. I was impressed with the size and potential that it has. One idea is a crash diorama in North Africa and some SAS or LRDG salvaging it for spares. I already have the figures and a Chevy truck and Jeep in the stash. They certainly prized both Vickers K's and Browning .303's and took them whenever they could.

Gaz, Damian and Stephen my thanks gentlemen for your kind compliments! It really does show off late war camo versus early war, where in the later stages of the war it became important to hide the aircraft from the roving allied patrols than hiding them at altitude.

Stephen we didn't get the name "thieving kiwi's" for nothing if it wasn't nailed down it got perked!

I think they had to be 'resourceful' in the North Africa campaign. Wing mounted Browning's were a favourite to salvage and all sorts of home-made triggers had to be devised to allow them to be fired manually.
It's just an idea at the moment, the only real problem is the size of the diorama!

I've added the main decals tonight but had microsol and set react with the gloss coat of Johnsons Klear. In short it has turned it white and soft. I'm pretty sure it has happened on everything else I've ever done and I'm only noticing it because of the black paint. I just hope it dries up clear!

Great looking Beau Richard, very nicely done. Gotta love those sinister black birds, especially the heavy twin fighters!

Well done getting finished, thanks for sharing your build with us.

Looks great Richard!

I matt coated the Whitley tonight. Luckily everything had dried up nice and clear by the morning. I really did have one of those 'OH S*#T!' moments last night when I saw how the Klear had changed colour.
Tomorrow I'll remove the masks, add the landing gear and turrets and call it done. First to start and looks like last to finish.

Make that 3,..hopefully i get it finished in 2 day's
I'm doing a Heinkel

Revell 1/72 Heinkel, easy built really nice fit.

Added some extra details in the nose

Once built i need to give it a bit of rest to work out what and how to proceed,.. and normally this takes some time,.. but last week i allocated some time for painting.

The winter camo added (not really happy with it) so tomorrow i need to figure out how to correct it, that's it so far.

Thx

Stephen, I'm really looking forward to seeing your build unveiled with the markings on. I have had some issues with Mr Mark (Gunze) decal solution clouding the clear coat in the past, but it doesn't seem to be every time. Maybe it is temperature or humidity related as well?

Jan, great work on the He111. Is this a speed build or have you been working on it for a while?

Roll Call/Build Status updated again with a couple of days to go.

I'm calling it done for the night.

So after a lot of blood, sweat tears a house move and my own mistakes here it is. The Airfix 1/72 A.W Whitley Mk.V, 10 Sqn, 4 Group RAF Bomber Command, RAF Leeming, Yorkshire, Dec 1941.

I still have a little touching up to do, mainly around the canopy frames and she needs to be weathered. Photo's of black Whitley's show a very tatty finish. I also still need to pick up one my grass mats from my parents place to better photograph it on. I'll get that done over the weekend and put some better photo's in the gallery early next week.

I'd like to thank Damian for hosting a great campaign, Micheal for approving the extension and everyone else for the encouragement to see this on through to the end. We've had some fantastic builds covering a wide variety of twin-engine designs in service.

Stephen
