first of all - your stuka looks great!




I used a sponge/small brush technique.
Light colour of base camo first - sponge moistened in paint (I remove quite decent amount on towel paper, almost like with drybrushing ) to apply random spots of paint chipping in desired area. I also add some scratches and marks with small brush to improve chipping results and variety in some areas.
Next I repeat same technique but with dark brown colour to achieve rusty look. Also - sponge and later corrections with brush.
The important thing I learned is that it's good to hit surface at random angles at same spot with sponge, otherwise chipping will look unnaturally duplicated.

Radoslaw , that's truely a battle weary P4 you've built there. A bit too much weathering for my taste, but that's up to everyone's choice. But it looks well done anyway.

Oliver, that's a lovely Ju 87 kit there. What unit is it? I think I also need to build one in the future. Have 3 Stukas somewhere in my stash ....

Ken, you will love this kit! Though it says Eduard on the box, it's Zvezda inside. I have built the Peshka some time ago for the Soviet Phoenix Campaign and really enjoyed building it. Have build a plane of the 125. GvBAP (all female aircrew). Very intersting story of this unit.

Angel, thanks for the history lesson. Interesting facts about the "Fliegersichtzeichen". But isn't a white square (or flag) more common in use for surrender ....? Honestly, I had to check what colour is on top of the bulgarian flag. Sometimes it's all a bit confusing. Just like in which order are the colours of the lithuanian flag or the estonian. Okay, that I know by now because they are hanging in my room ....

Anyway, I came a bit further with my tin opener. There's a lot of masking to do now.
The whole underside is covered ....

.... Thursday I sprayed Dunkelgrün RLM 71 on the top side ....

.... with Revell Aqua No. 39 ....

.... yesterday I started masking the splinter camo for Schwarzgrün RLM 70, which will be done with Revell Aqua No. 40 ....

.... it looks a bit confusing right now but it's not finished yet. Hope all masking is done in the next few days, so I can carry on.

Here's my entry: FW 189 recon plane. I can already see it is going to ba a challenge, but I am up for it.
I've smuggled in my I-15 into the time stamp photo, it wasn't a valid entry, being pre-war model, but I am so happy to have finished it!

Ok, I'm calling the P4 done. It was hard 2-3 days for me, I was hit by some nasty infection, but I managed to get it done. Last retouches here and there, some messed up mounting strut for turret side armor, but it's done

Actually I don't know Revell set, so wouldn't be able to compare. So far all I've done is study the instructions, examine the pieces and plan my approach. I am very impressed by level of detail and overall quality. This will be a big chalenge for me.

A little progress on my bench:


Mating of fuselage halves, wings and empennage completed. Fits rather good for a short-run kit.

Radoslaw, congrats on finishing your build. Very well done!

This week I have made a big step forward with my build. As I said before there was a lot of masking to do to cover Dunkelgrün RLM 71. I have used 6 mm Tamiya Tape and stripes of Kip Tape for the bigger parts ....


Thursday it was action time for my airbrush again ....

.... and I have used Revell Aqua No. 40 Schwarzgrün RLM 70 for it ....

.... time for demasking. The work of several evenings is just a pile of masking paper in the end ....

.... et voilà ....


Demasking is always like unwrapping a christmas present. You never know what you really get! But I'm quite satisfied with the result. Have to do some touch ups here and there because some of the green paint went under the mask of RLM 65 Hellblau but that should be no big deal.
My plan with this build was to have it done for the model show in Strasbourg/France. Well, that didn't work, because the show is this weekend. I came home from there earlier this evening. It's just some 80 kilometers down the highway so I can sleep at home and drive there again tomorrow morning.

Good progress on your P3, Kalin. But I guess it will become a bit more colourful in the end, right?

It has been well tempered here in Germany this week. This morning at 9:00 h we had already 33°C (91°F) and now in the evening it's still 36°C (96°F) outside. The wind is like coming from a hair dryer .... Though I have 29°C (84°F) inside I managed to bring my tin opener close to the finish line. Everything except the MK 103 is assembled and painted. Yesterday I sprayed Erdal Bodenglänzer (the german equivalent to Future) all over. It's so thin that it doesn't give problems with spraying. Spraying paint is a bit more problematic with these temeratures, I guess. The paint is already dry before it's on the model. So next week it's decal time ....

after decals only minor corrections, a little more matt varnish and the glueing of four tiny PE counter weights on flaps and ailerons is left.

I just received a bench-clearer as a quarterly bonus from SWMBO, and I'm afraid it doesn't fit in this campaign. So that's that. But I sure enjoy seeing everyone's work!

And too all of my fellow Yanks, happy 4th of July!

Oliver, my bottle is already a few years old but have you looked at Kaufland stores? They have it in their assortment. It's a blue bottle. Meanwhile I have a yellow bottle in use which says "Emsal Boden-Pflege Voll Glanz". It's the same as Glänzer and it's also produced by Erdal. Have a look.

Okay, enough of advertising. While I'm still working on the last decals for my Hs 129, today I gave the MK 103 a few layers of a special paint. I work in a paint factory and sometimes we produce paint with glitter. I have an older sample here. It sticks very well to plastic and here I've tried it on metal for the first time. It's Anthracite with Aluminium glitter. That glitter is expensive stuff. Of course it's made for bigger surfaces than this tiny gun. But I like how it comes out here. Not easy to focus on the gun with the white background. I needed a few attempts.

.... as I said the paint is made for bigger surfaces. In my company we paint wood panels with it and that looks great ....


I'm at the last stencils for my tin opener and beside that I'm also working on a larger project, my K9 Moukari. But I hope to cross the finish line by next weekend or so.

I think, I can open one hangar door already .... All decals are on, will seal them tomorrow and in the following days comes clear flat varnish on. Should be finished by Sunday ....

I am posting progress photos of my FW 189. Not much done really. I only completed the crew compartment, getting ready to close it off. Looking at the pictures above I am quite embarassed of the quality of my work. Well, I will get there one day.
Slow progress is result of me practicing the sponge dabbing technique to replicate the spray pistol effect of the camo on this one (I don't own an airbrush). Also canopy is giving me headaches. I couldn't decide how to approach it. Since the canopy is the most eye catching element of this plane I want to do it really well. Normally I use to paint the frames with paintbrush and stick the canopy on as the last element of the model, but in this case construction demands I put the canopy in place prior to painting. I was unable to cut the masks for window panes. I don't know if my tape is bad or my knife dull, but it curls up so bad when cutting I have abandoned the idea. So I decided on the middle ground: I will glue it in, mask the whole glass off and then paint frames by hand after the plane itself is painted. I hope this makes sense.

Okay folks, I call this bird ready for take off. Here is my finished tin opener, tank buster or whatever you wanna call it, even the grandfather of today's A-10 Thunderbolt II, the Warthog ....
