Thanks, Bob. Got to give Smurf Scale a try. They sure take up less room. The Sweet Aviation kits are good, and I've heard good things about Eduard & Platz.

The NMF is Tamiya Gloss Aluminum (TS-17) right out of the can. Would it work in a larger scale? Probably not, but it looks good in this small scale.

Hi Gang,

It is 1948 hrs, July 4th. I'm working on a "hail Mary" to finish Jack by midnight tomorrow. Here she is after gluing the airframe today, under the noon sun, letting the Tamiya and Ambroid liquid glue cure. After I post this, I'm going down to prime her.

Big hiccup - downloaded Windows 10 update 2004 Thursday. Now my PC runs like it is full of tube glue!

Wish me luck.

Model plagued with many problems, but finally, I managed to finish it. One missing thing in the markings is two yellow chevrons before vertical stabiliser. Sorry, that was over my skills now...

Done. The only thing missing are seat belts as the kit only comes with decals and those look like butt compared to the rest of the plane. Ordered some but things are a bit delayed and they didn't make it in time.

The plane is meant to be 'White 11' of 1./SG4 stationed in Italy, Summer 1944. This plane was over-painted in the Mediterranean camo scheme and all upper stencils, the upper Balkenkreuz, and tail markings got painted as well. Now I have lots of extra FW 190 stencil decals.

Model is OOB except for the radio antenna wiring.

I am building this bird out-of-the-box, except added P/E seatbelts by Eduard, and scratched-built the engine control quadrant (not installed yet).

Tamiya's decal is acceptable.


Assembled the airframe Friday. Primed her and added gear well color Saturday the 4th. To try to speed the process, she is setting in the afternoon sun.

I don't know what temps are like in Tennessee, but if you left a kit in the sun to dry in my part of Georgia you would have a gull-wing plane when finished.

Last night I shot the yellow leading edge ID color. This morning I masked them, then mixed and shot the Mitsubishi blue-black anti-glare panel. Once again, "helped" the color cure by parking "Jack" in the sun while I went to cut grass.

Shell, we're similar, although I am in the mountains. It hit 90 yesterday, I think, and 91 today...

Your Raiden is going nicely together. Leaving it on the sun on metal (I guess) surface is a sort of bravery.

Well guys, I hate to but I'm going to have to admit defeat. I'm not going to get this Raiden done by midnight. We were moving along pretty well. "Jack" was all going great until a thunderstorm blew in and soaked it with rain and splashed a bunch of dirt and stuff up on it which I had to clean off and dry off. I did, it worked out well but then, what I want to start painting it, my paint failed. Second coat went on okay but by then, too much time has been lost. There's also some corrosion where the salt weathering is reacting with the paint;this paint has not done this to me before. Maybe it's the type of salt, maybe it's the type of paint. I don't know. But it doesn't look the way I need it too.





Maybe a third coat? But that will keep me from being able to do the underside tonight. But I'll keep pressing on. It's 9 p.m. right now so that 3 hours to go. I won't make it but I'll get it as far as long as I can and jus t be, oh, maybe an honorable mention? But it's been fun. Might finish him tomorrow or the next day. And still I'll let everybody see it when it's done.

I know I kind of swept in at the tail end of this with my Smurf Scale Thunderbolt, but there were a lot of really nice radial engine fighters built for this campaign.
