"What General Weygand called the Battle of France is [almost] over. The Battle of Britain is about to begin." Or words to that effect.

Welcome to the Battle of Britain 80 Campaign!

The campaign will run from 1 May through 1 December, 2020.

If you haven't signed up yet, or want to see the rules, go here.

Please post your initial and in-progress photos as well as campaign discussion in this thread. Please post your finished build photos in the campaign gallery.

Looking forward to some great builds honoring the memory of those who fought for the skies of Great Britain in 1940!

Hi,

This is my initial picture. Time to get this 1996 veteran out of the stash!

I´ll be posting as soon as I can.

Bye for now and stay safe!

Raul! Your pic's gone missing!

My entry is of about the same vintage as your's:

I'm not sure if this is the best idea I've ever had since the kit was made for Italian firm Mister Kit about 25 years ago by MPM. I'll post an update when I start it, will be within a few weeks!

The Italian participation from German-occupied Belgium is a lesser known part of the BoB that is fascinating. The most tangible result of their struggle is that the RAF Museum has a Fiat in their collection...

Hi, Magnus

Beautiful bird you got there! I will follow your build, no doubt about it!

Uploading the pic... just in case.

Take care

Here's my entry:

Nice that Tamiya has included PE seat belts (and other parts) by default. It's 1/48, the scale isn't obvious from photo, and will be painted to scheme shown in box art.

I'm doing a 1/72 Hurricane from 303 Squadron.

Actually I'm doing two! I already have one complete and these two will make a nice vic.

Just signed up, don’t expect anything spectacular, I have a Frog Bf110 in the stash but on checking it is a G, just finished a 109 to match my Spit Mk1, Hurricane Mk1 and CR42. Only other possibility is a 1/48 Eduard Bf108 but I doubt many of those got over the Channel. Found a SMER Tiger Moth in 1/48, not a combatant unless Operation Sea Lion had happened, then might have been thrown into the fray

1996 veteran, I just finished one of those in the Hangar Queen thread and it was nowhere near that age. Went together well though

Howdy Y'all
Well it looks like a 3-way tie, because I vote for #2. I'll try to get a photo up soon. I'll be building a 109 from Academy.
Take care,

Well scrap, I wanted to be a part of this. But I figure that this is kinda serious, so an egg Spitfire wouldn't really be appropriate. Being American I know next to nothing about the BoB, Spitfires, Hurricanes, Messerschmidts yes, but what marks? I ordered a Hobby Boss Hurricane MkII. It's an early enough mark to be BoB. Nope, it's a MK.IIC Summer of '42. Too Late
Next try might work, it's supposed to be a Mk.I, with BoB markings. But with my luck they're for a Polish or Canadian pilot, do there's that.

1. A Hurricane I should work fine, even if it's a Polish or Canadian pilot, as long as they flew in the BoB.

2. This isn't serious, it's a hobby! If you want to do an egg Spit, it's OK with me. As long as it's in BoB paint and markings.

Speaking of Hurris, here's what I PLAN to build:

I started it a while back but lost my mojo. I think it's still safely under 25%:

Hopefully I can pick it back up again. The Hurricane was my first favorite aircraft and it's still way up on the list. Why there's not a modern, first rate 1/32 kit of it (or the Typhoon for that matter) escapes me. Maybe they could be the new Airfix's first forays into 1/32? Anyway, here's what we've got, so I'll do the best I can with it.

Still debating whether to do Archie McKellar's aeroplane (I also have the PCM kit which has his markings) or Johnny Kent's (from this kit.)

I can't wait to see folks' progress. I do love Hurricanes. Mine are 1/72 and now underway. Here's a photo on the way to the paint booth. The wings will get primer so I can see better how to clean up the seams on the edges of the wings, and then I'll put the silver down in the wheel wells and on the floor of the cockpit. (Did the Hurricane have a floor in the cockpit? It looks like plates just attached to the tubular frame (this scale has its limits)).

As I said I already have one Hurricane from 303 done. I learned on that one that putting the pilot in at the end, as the instructions indicate, leaves a lot to be desired. So I glued the pilot in his seat, attached the seat to the backplate, and then attached the frame through which his legs go. After the glue started to set, I made sure the instrument panel and the backplate for the seat fit into the side of the cockpit.

Once it's all sealed up your not going to see much of it anyway, but still trying to do it well.

And last here's a pick of the seams on the front of one of the wings. Both of them are like this, one slightly worse than the other.

This is a nice kit. The seams on the wing are a little annoying to deal with, but, if these are like the previous one I did, there aren't other major fit issues and the kit goes together well.

Phil

In answer to your question, Phil: no, the Hurricane did not have a cockpit "floor". You could see right though the framework to the top of the landing gear bay.
