Aircraft Im currently building to go in this scene, Amodel Navy SAR Albatross for the Rescue Me campaign, Ozmods Dehavilland Caribou for the Groundforce Diorama campaign, Welshmodels C-47 for the Douglas Propeller campaign.
Also, recently added a Dornier 228 to my Air Marshall Islands fleet.


Another project I'm fairly pleased with (but havent touched in months) is this deck-up CV-6 Enterprise scratchbuild, a long way from completion, and less than half of the air group present. This is entered in the Enterpise Campaign.



Im also working on a Mass. Air National Guard wing, located at Logan airfield in Boston, and a Navy Air reserve group in Oakland both late 40s-early 50s.

Wow, Jonathan. I'm certainly giving you a great, big thumbs-up for your wonderful diorama ideas. I especially like that carrier deck, and hope you'll find the time and energy to complete it. Well done. These are very inspirational works.

Don't worry.... it's called macular degeneration. It strikes us all (male or female) when you hit your early 40's, although some later on.

Your eyes inability to focus is normal as the cornea hardens with age. If you're really worried, go to your local optometrist. He'll help you, although there's not much he can do except prescribe reading glasses.

Try stir sticks for coffee. You might have to sand it a bit, but they're perfect for wooden decking.

Great job on the airfield & aircraft carrier. Cool projects.

Just thought i'd see if we could generate a little 1/144th interest here. This is my latest production. This is the Revell 1/144th scale F-18C with MYK decals for "Chippy Ho" of VFA-195. It really was a fun project, and I've always wanted to complete this ever since I found the decals. The markings are actually a mixture of decals and paint for a nice smooth match.

Any and all comments are welcomed, trust me, I have a tough hide.

The "Remove before Flight Streamers" are actually nothing more than extremely thin strips of aluminum foil painted red. (And no...in 1/144th I'm not going to try to get the printing on ! )

But it does give the effect I wanted even without the printing. Plus this is a really tremendous kit in my opinion.

I can't say I've ever seen a P-47 with a 3-bladed prop. This kit has one, that looks like its from a P-40. And the decals are just a-bit short of what the box-top and the included 2-view pretend are in there.


At least, it comes with a small tinfoil sliver of glue, and still soft enough to use.

Might be fun; might not be. Might be me and the grandson.

I like the old Crown kits. Some are still in production under the Minicraft label. I have built several of the TBF Avengers.
They show their age next to Sweet or Platz kits, but they are miles above the Revell Minis, which are also still in production.
I see they didnt include decals to make the plane on the box.
I have some P-47 decals from the Platz kit I'll never use if you are interested.

I'm thinking I can take one of the 4 blade props from my Platz C-46D and use it for the Crown P-47. Perhaps I can make it into something.

Then I'll take the 3 blade props from my Minicraft B-25 and use them on the Platz kit.

Then I'll take props on another kit to use on the B-25, and sooner or later I'll be so confused I won't remember what happened in the great prop scandal.

I've only built one 1/144 scale kit, but it was a great scale to work in. I'd build in 1/144 scale again. I've posted this before, but here it is again.

My 1/144 scale diorama depicts the launch of an F-14B Tomcat of FV-103 “Jolly Rogers” in November 2004 from the deck of USS John F. Kennedy in support of ground operations in Iraq. The F-14 is a model from Revell. I used Goffy Models aftermarket sets for the wings in launch position, laser guided bombs and targeting pod. The carrier deck and vehicles were from a Dragon kit. The deck crewmen are pewter sets from Japan. I modified these and painted them to accurately reflect deck crewmen in 2004. I used Fightertown Decals for the F-14 and Starfighter Decals for the vehicles and some of the deck markings.

Here are more photos of just the plane.

I scratch built the F-14B chin pod on the Revell F-14D. Other modifications include adding details to the ejection seats, specifically the black and yellow striped ejection seat handles, made out of .006” brass wire. The rear tailplanes were molded onto the top half of the fuselage, so I carefully cut them off and mounted them in the launch position. The nose landing gear was modified to depict the lowered launch position with the launch bar lowered. I used Model Master acrylic paint on the model and used a gray pin wash to highlight the panel lines. I threw in a couple penny shots for the standard size comparison.
