Thanks Jean-Luc, It was a pig of a kit to build but I'm pleased with the outcome. I can only hope the client will be as well I'm well ahead of you with the feature as I was planning on doing a feature for the "Bulldogs" site as Mal wanted more articles for there, It could always be syndicated across to here if needs be. I'm unsure on if I should do it as a photo feature or a build feature I suppose the deciding factor is if I can remember how it went together Hi Allen!

Fantastic build, Allen! Great to see what can be done with a lot of great modelling skills, an old kit and a lot of putty and after market items

Finally the spare parts to my airbrush arrived, so I'm back on track with the Gripen! I also received the Promodeller Wash that I had ordered. My inital review is very positive! Finally a product that helped me accomplish reasonable panellines and weathering! And without to much work!
Before:
A couple of minutes later (some touch-ups remaining):
Believe me! This was FUN!!! - From now on I'm going to weather everything in sight!
Cheers!! / PolarBear
Ps. Wow, Allen! That is one beatiful build!

Hello everyone,
There are some really nice entries coming in. Allen, is the Buccaneer armed with Sea Eagle Missiles? Nice job on that kit Polar Bear. I really like how the Missiles and pylons came out after the wash!
My progress is coming along. I applied the decals and ordinance last night. I substituted the kit Shrike Missiles with Hasegawa LAU rockets (seemed more logical load out with the iron dumb bombs). The decals came with the kit and they went on surprisingly well but they blend in almost to good with the Ghost Grays. I guess just like the real thing. Look hard they are present. Next step is to seal them with gloss and then weather the model.
Sincerely,
Brian

Well, I've been busy beavering away since the extension (thanks Jean-Luc) to get the Phantom painted. so after three weekends work and the rest of this one to go it should (hopefully) be somewhere near to the finishing post. I decided after looking at the decal sheet which was badly yellowed and the red stripe was also supplied as a decal I thought I would paint it instead. Here are some pics of what's been done so far
Primed with Halfords Grey Primer
The metallic areas were painted with Alclad Steel then certain parts were masked and then a coat of Alclad Stainless Steel was applied once dry I masked all of the Metallic areas and the white areas had two coats of Halfords Gloss Appliance White and the masked ready for the Xtracolor Post Office Red enamel
After nearly a week the red was masked and then the blue area was sprayed with Xtracolour Roundel Blue and the left to dry. after another week all the masking was removed and revealed a nice finish with minimum creeping or pulling of paint (thankfully )
Next came the decalling yesterday but I had to enlist the help of Allen (Tomcat31) He placed the decals in a zipseal bag and found a nice spot in his bedroom window ( and even more fortunately a break in the lousy weather) and bleached the yellowing out of the decals. Unfortunately these decals are extremely thin and curl up at just the site of the Microset/Sol bottles and took the two of us most of the day and plenty of water just to get the main markings in place. The plus side is that due to the thinness they have settled down in to the panel lines nicely
Hopefully tomorrow i'll get all the stencil on and the plane varnish with some Klear/Future
As always comments and suggestions are welcomed

Great build, Samantha! One of the more colourful Phantoms I have seen. Definently a great entry into this campaign.
I am doing the "tulip" Phantom of the luftwaffe Richhofen squadron for the upcoming Phantom campiagn. That is, if I do not change my mind again
Looking forward to see it finished

Decals are up! Done the main ones first... Pity i couldn't do much if not ANY panel lines and weathering on this bird... Have yet to get a compressor & airbrush.
Oh well, looks like i've just gotta deal with it for the moment.
I find that the decals for the jaws do not fit so well...
Of the entire process, i find "decalling" the most arduous task to complete!
Will continue tomorrow!

Hi all!
Sammy & Russell; I love your builds, can´t wait to see them done!
We got a month extension and I thougt that I could easily make it!
No way!
First, I got a relly bad cold and was out for more then a week!
No building whatsoever done as I slept all the time!
Then when I felt a bit better, I started to paint my F-16.
I had It really going, then my little trusty compressor died on me!
After more then four years of honourable duty, It gave up It´s breath.
May It rest in peace...
It took me almost a week, but now I have a better, bigger compressor with a 6L tank.
But I still lack some adapters to hook it up to my airbrush, so I still can´t do any airbrushing!
Makes me very frustrated as I can´t get anything done!
I´ll have to bite the bullet and realize I can´t finish this model in time.
It will be completed anyway, so It´s not a big deal really!
I have had fun building the kit and have enjoyed all the nice builds in this well-run campaign!
Cheers!

Hi all,
I'm getting close to the finishing line with the Saab Jas 39A Gripen.
Some detailing remains. The canopy will be open. Since I chose an early version of the Gripen, I have to do some minor adjustments. If nothing unexpected occurs, however, I will make the deadline!!!
With the full missile load, this fighter/attack aircraft looks like it means business! More pictures (of the finished bird!?) this weekend!
Ps. Camogirl - Your F-4 is awsome!
Cheers! // Polarbear

Thanks Drabslab and Jesper!
Here are some pictures of my finished campaign entry - a Swedish SAAB Jas 39A Gripen in 1/72.
My model depicts #39150 - the last Gripen to leave the southern F10 Wing in 2002. The Italeri kit required quite a lot of filling and sanding, but I'm rather pleased with the final result. This is the first 1/72 kit that I've finish in a very long time!
The weapon load came straight from the box. The big grey missiles are Swedish made RB 15F anti-ship missiles. This Gripen is ready for just about anything!
I've complemented the Italeri kit with cockpit and seat from Pavla, PE from Part, exhaust from Aires and decals from TwoBobs. I've used colours from JPS and I've tried out the wonderful products from "Promodellers' Weathering Wash" (highly recommended for relative beginners like me!)
Thanks for all the nice comments on the way! And thanks for a great campaign!

Excellent build, Bjoern. A agressive and modern looking aircraft. Is there a recon version of the Gripen? Then I will probably build it for the Paparazzi campaign.
A very nice entry!

Hello Everyone,
Polar Bear, I like how the Gripen turned out, well done indeed!
Camogirl, that has got to be the most elaborate paint job I have ever seen for a Phantom a well done for you to!
Myself, I’m almost finished with the OA-4M Skyhawk. Here is two pictures of the kit minus the canopy and windscreen. I’m going to take the model to work with me Monday and work on it late in the evening.
Jean-Luc I work 24-hour shifts and my department forbids internet access while on duty so I cannot post the finished pictures until Tuesday morning, is that okay with you?
Sincerely,
Brian

Hi all!
Wow! Some very fine entries here! The Gripen looks great especially for 1/72 scale and what can I say about the Phantom? Fantastic paintscheme! Congratulation to both of you.
No problem. I think I will award the ribbons and post the final table only wednesday in any event.
Today is the official end date of the Campaign. Apart from Brian, I think Russell and Stefan are also struggling to get their entries finished. Hope they're going to make it until wednesday... Good luck anyway!

Brian - Thanks for your comments! Your Skyhawk is starting to look mean! I look forward to the finished result!
Camogirl - Dang - what a nice Phantom! What are you planning for the Phantom campaign!?
Jesper - Thanks!!! The Gripen is a multi-roll aircraft. The S in JAS 39 stands for "Spaning", which means recon in Swedish. If you want to build a Gripen for the Photo-recce campaign, you will have to scratchbuild an SPK 39V pod (which carries a CA 270 digital camera developed by Recon Optical Inc in USA) or an SPK 39IV pod (with a CA 270 and a Swedish SKA 24 wet film camera). The pods are only used on the C- and D-versions of the Gripen. You'll find some info (in Swedish) and some pictures here!
Unfortunately, there is no funny nose that goes with the Gripen - If you wish to build a SAAB jet with a specialised nose cone, you should opt for a Draken or a Viggen.
Cheers! // PolarBear

Excellent Phantom, Samantha. A stunning and very colourful paint scheme. Well done
Thanks for the info, Bjoern. I will look around to see what kits are out there. Luckily there is still time before the campaign starts.
