No worries Guy on doing the same kit . It is a fantastic kit with good detail and I look forward to your build What marking option are you going with ?
Thanks Terry. Your right, the Tamiya P-51B is a great kit. The only real issue I can find is that the floor is molded as metal instead of wood.
For markings; I'm thinking a 112 Sqn. RAF "Sharkmouth" with the standard late temperate camo scheme.

Hey Terry,
Thanks for the wood floor compliment. The Revell Redo has the removable lower cowl as the original Monogram does. Revel just cleaned up the molds a bit so the lines were finer and the joints were a buit tighter, but it's basically the same old bird. My inspiration is looking at the Tamiya kits and shooting to make it look like one of those!

Fantastic work Justin. Just to satisfy my curiousity, I read in another forum you don't build German stuff. Just not interested in the aircraft types? Russell

Thanks Russell nothing against Germans I just love sexy planes with sleek lines most German stuff is very masculine looking and bulky.

Justin , I must say I'm impressed with your finish ! Not very many folks putty the wing panel lines and have the them in silver with the fuselage in polished effect . Nice touch !
I'm German , are you saying I'm masculine / bulky ?

Built that kit ~ 10 years ago. Enjoyed the experience, my first Academy build. It was part of a group build at TCAH (thanks for the kit John!) so there was a little bit of a time constraint. I ended up not installing the drop tanks because the invasion stripe decals cratered. Apparently Academy is famous for this.
Enjoy the build. Hopefully I'll get to sray some interior green on my Mustang this week.
BTW, I preferred to build it with the 'blown' canopy since I've seen so few Mustangs with one.

Justin, that's a wonderful effort. Thankyou.
I'm just starting, and building OOB because I don't have anything else my P-51. Nor do I have a good camera, so I'll just have to deal with what I have.
I did manufacture some seat harness out of masking tape and stainless steel wire, painted brown. It looks goofy, but, I'm very happy with the result because it looks like belts are there. Better than none.
All the kit parts were washed with detergent, sprayed US interior green, and then dedicated the individual colors. All I added was the seatbelts and a scratchbuilt trim wheel.
It seems a little spartan, I know. I'm more interested in what you'll see, which is the finish. And I'm having a great deal of fun, while my wife does her hobby; the garden!

I hate you guys.
You're getting to glue and paint and stuff. Me, I'm dealing with the inevitable collection of alligators while I'm trying to drain the honey do swamp.
Heck, at this point, I'd volunteer to do Bob's accounting homework if it bought me a couple of hours to spray paint and glue stuff together.
