@Guy, Model Master Interior Green No problems my friend, just do what I do, take your glasses off and stick your nose on the plastic and you can see great!

@Justin, thank you brother, from an artist like you, I appreciate that. The new figure from Tamyia really does put it into scale

Bruce, great job there. I have the Tamiya 1/72 scale P-51D and one of the marking options is for the 357th. I just might do one. Again, great work, good model. Russell

P.S. Terri, how much more time is there in this campaign? Just curious. I've got a couple of commitments I need to deal with but thought I might join this one too.

Had to check that myself since I'm sorta stalled at the moment. Official date is Jan 31, 2011. I have a chance of finishing!

So as a newbie to plastic models do have any pointers? I've seen your pics and you do outstanding work as do everyone else's I've seen here. So how is the weather there in Canada?

Work carefully (sharp edges and chemicals are involved)

Fit twice, glue once

Build what you like, like what you build

Ask questions, help other modelers (you'll learn something too)

Check out the start here threads for details and advice on gluing, painting, scratch building and decaling.

Seattle is mostly sunny (as opposed to mostly cloudy) high of 66F

Hi John . Well for pointers build what you like how you like and learn from there . We all started some where . Share your work with others and most of all have fun ! If you have any questions just ask , it's the greatest tool you will have . Every kit you do -you will get better and better . Don't be affaird to try no things .

Well the weathering has been nice , but getting a fair bit of rain durning the night time .

Terri, did you have any further joy with the ribbon?

Hopefully I'll have some of my other campaigns out of the way in the next few weeks so i can start on mine.

Anthony, looks like there's going to be a whole squadron of B/C series. That's great.

Here's my first try at applying a wash to the cockpit area of my P-51B. I clearcoated it with the old style "Future", and left it overnight. In the morning, I mixed up a 15ml batch of 100:1 mineral spirit to burnt sienna/aircraft black, enamel cocktail. I'm thinking it was far too thin, because it disipated almost without notice. My experiment has failed so far.

I'm not sure if I'll make a second attempt, or resort to drybrushing. For the most part, I lack the patience displayed by the finer modelers attending here.

Also, note my attempt at the homemade seat-harness. Stop laughing . I can hear you.

They are painted masking tape with little SS rings acting as buckles, that I know give you chuckles. But, I'm still fairly happy with it.

So on we go. Guy

Guy,

Cockpit looks good. I've never tried an oil wash, so I'm no help there. My last attempt was with ink at like a 60:1 ratio and it looked like I hadn't tried. I'll try something different next time.

Like the seat belts, I need to try something like that in 1/72.

Looks good so far Guy .

When doing a wash with oils you can adjust the mixture . I start with 70 % paint and 30% thinner . You can always add more thinner if needed . It will also help with the surface has a dull coat . Gives something for the wash to bite into . You might have to add more the one wash to build it up . It can take up 3 or 4 times to get the effect I'm looking for .

Guy, I use Jo Sonjas Artist Watercolours in Burnt Sienna and/or Burnt Umber and mix it with water to give a colour and consistency of strong coffee, then just slop it on thick. It's really easy then to use a brush and cotton bud (Q-tip) to move it around and remove the excess.

Give it a try one day.

Your build is looking great so far !!

Cheers, D

Thankyou Terri and Thankyou D

I don't want to congest with too many photos and yap, but, I feel its important to show what a little help can do.

Following some tutorial from Terri and D, I thickened up a batch of burnt sienna/aircraft black thinned +/- 25% with mineral spirit. Then I just smeared it on and followed with a Q-Tip mop. Afterward, I applied "Future" clearcoat and then drybrushed with aluminum.

I'm so happy with the result, that I wanted to post before:

and after photos:

It's great to get the help, and I believe this little project is coming along just fine.

Forward we Go. Guy

Hi everyone. I just thought I should let you all know that I have had a few set backs lately, namely that the compressor I bought had a faulty pressure regulator and the outlet didn't fit my airbrush.

I'm also spending a fair amount of time getting my documents and other things together and handed in to my university so that I can go on my Bachelor of Nursing placement in September/October. There are a LOT of forms to sign and and things to read. I also have a supplementary exam on the 23rd of July to study for.

So in short if I get to even do just a little bit of practice with my airbrush before I start my next semester back at uni on the 26th it'll be a miracle.

Hopefuly I'll have something done on a P-51 kit by the end of next month
