Well, I did it ! I took to the old Monogram 1/48 P-47 with a knife and razorsaw !
Nige, you might want to look away now . . . .
Pics as promised, before
And after
I took the pylons off under the wings first with the razorsaw, then scribed the cut line across the wings a few times, then off they came with the saw. Next will be closing up the openings and adding some scratch built hydraulics and arms for the wing-fold mechanism. I will reduce the guns to 3 each side, but the plastic blast tubes will be replaced, not sure with what yet ?
I'm enjoying this departure from the straightforward builds.
Cheers, D

D, when you get to the gun scratching stage try some hypo needles. Looking good. Have you given any thought to the degree of the wing fold yet? Straight up and down 90' or with the tips almost touching like an F-4U?
Jean-Luc, in the future would you please limit yourself to campaigns that I am NOT entered into? You make my entries look like doggie poo....

Thanks Hermon, I'll try to find some. I want to fold the wings almost together like the F-4U. Man there would have been an almighty THUD if one of these hit the carrier deck.

Well......perhaps I should concentrate on improving my skill then.
Moooooving right along. She's ready for decals at this point. The markings I've chosen are a purpleish blue so I'll have to custom mix some paint to do the tail fin.
I still have to wash and detail the folding areas and landing gear and finish building and painting the fuel tanks etc.

Thanks! I'm learning how to hide the mistakes with maximum effect through the camera lense.
Here she is with decals on one side. Once all the decals are on I'll go back and weather them to match the panel line wash.
Still lots of little bits to glue on.....oh, and the decals for the top of the dorsal were NOT supplied so I'll have to match up some paint the same color as the blue stripe decal.

Hermon, nice SLUF. Love them, my dad did design work on them back in the '60s, said if the Russians ever developed a hydralic fluid seeking missile they'd have shot them all down.

I'm going to do a Trumpeter 48th Seahawk for this one. I need to clear a couple of other projects up first though before I can get started.

a quick update,
have made all the cuts i need to , i bought a verlinden cockpit but although the detail is brilliant the back plate/armour seems to be way to short,so i may have to use the kit part...

started separating flight surfaces last night and made more progress on the tail gear. Need to start in on the tailwheel bay.
Anyone want or need a revell 1/32 cockpit for the F4u?
