OK, I've actually made a decision. Well, at least I've painted the cockpit green. My choice:


The HobbyCraft boxing of the Trumpeter 1/24 Mk.Vb. I'm only adding very limited aftermarket:

All from Cutting Edge. The new seat (frankly necessary) and armor, the posable resin harness, and maybe the cowling (I've been comparing them for a long time and still can't really tell the difference between the resin one and the kit part, but we'll see.)
My plan:

Sqn. Leader Chesley Peterson, 71 (Eagle) Sqn., August 1942.

Anyway, that's the scheme of the day, let's see how long I can stick with it!

I am intrigued by the resin seat harnesses Michael.
Axel that pink blu-tack looks very appetising.
Nice finish on your 1/32 Spit Warren, great camouflage goes very nicely with the red spinner and the clipped wings.
There are already two completed Spits in the gallery from Ayhan and Warren, well done guys.

Couldn't resist at having a go with one of these Airfix kits. I can't believe how fast these things go together, almost got myself in trouble It's a bummer they couldn't include decals for the cockpit gauges, but at least there is a cool little pilot to stuff in there and distract peoples eyes.



I was wondering what kind of green I am supposed to be using for the cockpit?
I use Tamiya and Gunze. Can handbrush with Vallejo if needed, but I'd like to avoid that...

Cockpit green of course, but neither Gunze or Tamiya produce it.. sorry..

Actually Tamiya's XF-71 cockpit green is pretty close for RAF cockpit green too, despite the color of the cap. The paint is actually darker than the cap shows and I think looks just about right on the model. IMHO of course!

I use the same paint as Michael, Tamiya acrylic paint XF-71 Interior green [IJN], as I find this is pretty close to the interior green found in Spits.

You see so little of the cockpit when the plane is finished I wouldn't be worrying too much... If you want a reference with Tamiya colors in the cockpit just get a look at the 1/32 Tamiya Spitfire kits. They will tell you what Tamiya colors to use.

a little update...
today i re-scribed the wings to show the long panels of the prototype,i thought it was going to be a nightmare as scribing i've done before has been, but i bought a new tamiya scriber and it was easy
i know it looks a mess but the scribed lines are ok.

Paul, I have trouble with tape or rulers what did you use for an edge? I am not familar with Tamiya's scribing tool, is it readily available?

Here is the kit I am using to build Gentile's Spitfire.



I will also be using the Aires cockpit set and Eduard Interior placards along with the Aeromaster decals for Gentile's plane.

Since I'm using the Aires kit for the cockpit, the molded details must be removed. In the top part of the photo you can see the detail has been sanded off using the Dremel tool and the bottom fuselage half is next,

the scriber i used is the Tamiya 74091 Plastic Scriber II
mine came off ebay for about £6 via hong kong, you should be able to get one to the usa for $10 inc shipping.
i used a small ruler that has a bit of flex on the wing but if i was going to do curves i would probably use dymo tape.

First with the fuselage ID band painted & masked and the wing recognition stripes painted.

And now the stripes are masked, the MSG on the bottom has been sprayed & masked and the OG top has been sprayed. Just need to mask and spray the DG camo.
