Hi Guy, I hope you enjoy the Academy Spit Mk XIV as much as I have. A great kit to put together. The Quickboost cowling fits very well I found and the exhausts are a huge improvement on the kits.
Nice work on those seams Bob, excellent stuff.
Looking forward to your Spit in Russian colours Jesper.
All the best.

Morning all! Here's the "progress" so far on the 1/32 Pacific Coast Spit IX "First Israeli Spitfire". Here's the bottom before seam clean up:
The fit and alignment of the piece at the back of the wing in crucial. I actually glued it to the wing first rather than the fuselage, then glued the bottom wing/rear piece assembly to the fuselage.
Here's the top side. The gun doors look like that because they're molded pretty flat so I had to bend them to get them to fit correctly. The white lines are stress lines, but it will look fine under paint. The big problem, of course (being a PCM kit) is the wing roots. THOSE white bits are plastic stip to fill in the gaps. Harder to see are the rather significant steps as well.
Oh well, at least it's not going to be bare metal!
I may go work on a Tamiya F4U or something for a while to try to get my groove back.
Mike

Micheal, please keep at it, you'll work the wing-roots through with patience. In Alberta, we have an 'when all else fails rule'. A 1/4'' of paint will cover anything.
I've learned that model building and age are inversely proportional in reality, though my mind still tells me I'm a youngster. I fiddled with this Aires cockpit kit as time would allow, managed to break it in three places, and wound-up gluing smaller pieces together. Finally it was whole, and fairly stable, although a little off centre. Now to paint it.
I also put together the console, which I'm quite happy with. I decided not to post a photo yet due to my poor photography efforts. What enjoyment are fuzzy photos.
Next time.
More to come. Guy

Hi everybody Sorry to be starting this campaign late, but I am actually still waiting for my LHS to get in my order I will be doing a Tamyia Spit Mk I with Eduard Zoom cockpit.
I was looking at my decal set ( I am doing Richard Hillary's Spit from the Battle of Britian).
The problem is that his Spit was done in the "B" scheme, and I don't have a referance that show's it. I tried the internet but wasn't able to find anything useful. I was hoping someone could post a picture here? Thanks/

Just thought I'd put down my unsubstantial progress. Lots happening in life, so not much time on the bench.
I'm going to require some seat harness:
When I return from the north, I'll be putting it all together:
I used Polly Scale interior green and Tamiya acrylics.

Nice progress on the interior, Guy. The cockpit will look great when put together.
I have made a little progress on my Airfix Spitfire Mk. 5.
Some of the details are very good. The wings have nice recessed details while the fuselage has raised detail so fine it will probably disappear under a coat of paint. Looks like Airfix combined two different kits. Even the type of plastic look different.
The cockpit is very sparse, but not much will be visible anyway through the 3 mm cockpit glazing.
Anyway, I hope I will get something decent from it. More to follow

Jesper, I've never had an Airfix kit other than the sloppy ones from childhood. I'm just wondering, are you going to paint it when its built? I've learned, perhaps incorrectly, that its best to paint prior.
Guess I'll wait to see what you experts do. Great post, bye the way. Guy

Finally getting started on this campaign Went to my LHS today and found my Spit sitting on the shelf with all his other kits It came in and he never called to let me know Even tho I called him twice to ask about it And that was a month ago!
So here it is, another Mk I but in the markings for P.O. Richard Hillary, author of "The Last Enemy"

Thanks for the comment, Guy. I will paint the interior before I put the fuselage halves together, but otherwise I paint it when construction is almost finished.

Has anyone out there built the Airfix 1/48 Early Spit Mk. I? I'm in total burnout mode and was thinking of just pulling it out and doing a basically out of the box build, possibly as the first production Spit.
Is the kit a pain or a fairly clean build?
Thanks!
Mike

Mike
You can build that out of the current Mk I/II kit. I built mine as a Mk II but all the parts are there for an early Mk I and a Battle of Britain Mk Ia as well. The kit builds up fine without any major issues. Check out my website for the pics of my completed model.
thanks

okay guys, straight out of the box, except for the markings for Richard Hillarys Mk I, by AeroMaster. Decals done, and just have to apply the fiddly bits. Decided not to weather this one. Paint is Tamyia AS-9 Dark Green (RAF), AS-22 Dark Earth (RAF) and XF-21 Sky
