I'm in this with something slightly difference. I'm doing a Heller 1/72 Dassault Mirage IV. I wanted to do something a little different than MiGs and USAF planes and I think this will fit the bill. It will be totally OOB and I just hope I've got some suitable colours for it!
thanks
Mike

I'm in with an RCN Banshee off the HMCS Bonaventure. 1/72 from the Hobbycraft kit.
1/72 RCN Banshee by mawz_models, on Flickr
Looks like a fun but quick build, so I may do a couple more afterwards as I've got a F-8E and a Sea Hawk in the stash that also qualify.

Might give this one a go.
But what about the finished nationality of the model? I'm thinking of doing an SU-7 in Egyptian Air Force markings, would that be ok or would it have to be Soviet or Warsaw Pact?

I've decided to go with the epitome of the Cold War...to me anyways...
I've been having a lot of fun with these 1/72 kits here lately. Hopefully it will continue with this one. I did a quick test fit and everything dropped into place easy enough. Now to decide whether to put it on a stick banked over and going like a bat out of hell, or on a base wheels down... decisions, decisions. Hmmmm. "Q"

Matt that is a super choice build you picked out, the SR-71 was a staple of the Cold War. Wheels up or down...I say do it in-flight. I do all my aircraft in-flight and the look kick butt.
Happy Modeling,
Joe
By the way I meet this super great guy by the name of Bill Curtis. Bill gave me a few personal belongings of his. He was a SR-71 pilot, NASA test pilot and flew F-4 Phantoms.
Here is his MACH III patch.
And his MACH II pin.
Bill also has an extensive collection of ejection seats, suits and helmets. I’ll tell you I washed he’d giving me the F-4 seat.
Happy Modeling,
Joe

Sweet pick Justin, love those Phantoms second to the Prowler. It's going to look great under those Jolly Rogers markings.

Thanks Joe. That is some extremely cool stuff he gave you. I'm green with envy
Hoping to get started on my Blackbird soon. I think I am going to put her in flight. Need to source a repro of that Mach patch. That and a Skunk-works logo would look sweet as part of the display base. Thanks for sharing. "Q"

I got started on my Blackbird today. So far I got the cockpit built and painted, and installed "Bill and Ted" in the office. I didn't go hog wild with painting the figures as once the hatches are on, they all but disappear. The landing gear doors were installed as well and I was pleasantly surprised at how well they fit. I will need a little filler on the nose gear doors, but it is very minor. Also acquired a Skunk Works patch and have a handle on the Mach 3+ path I was looking for to add to the display base. This should progress quickly once the upper and lower fuselage halves are together. "Q"

Starting to look great Matt, the pilots look super. How are you going to tackle the paint job, will you be doing shades of different color blacks and dark grays. Looking forward to your next posting.
Happy Modeling,
Joe
Oh here is something else..it's from Skunk Works, a coster

The Hobbycraft Banshee is a fast build, with excellent fit for a HC kit.IN a couple days I've been able to go from the base paintjob straight to glued up & wings on. Next step is fill, then mount the stabs and it's time to start laying paint.

Thanksfully there's only one problem seam, and it's pretty minor, at one wing root.

Red4 - A very cool cockpit. You've done an amazing job on the pilots. You are very skilled.
mykroft - I really like your choice of subject. I'm not actually a jet guy, but, have a soft spot for RCN planes. Your doing a super job on a cool plane. It will be very interesting to see the finished model.
I was thinking about joining in with Italeri's CF-5B. Perhaps I should be a little bit cautious though, as I'm already campaigned out, and seem to be a one=at-a-time modeler. I admire those who have the time and diligence to complete multiple builds.
