@Stephen: Stick at it Stephen! I know it can seem that you do all you can but the kit has more fight in it than you but the sense of accomplishment (and no small amount of relief!) when you finally get it finished is well worth it. And all that you've learned will stand you in good stead the next time you decide to do this kit or any other of Airfix's old mystery kits! And it looks good so far putty or not you have the beginnings of a finished kit!

@Sam: Ouch! Flashbacks Sam? Well you certainly got back on your horse! And completed your dressage event to boot. Well done! Not an easy event by any means! Its not my thing but I can appreciate the effort involved to get where you are now. Good luck with the kit and your dressage!

I'm far from giving up Chris. No kits beat me yet. Just not sure if I'll have it finished in time for the deadline. Fingers crossed we'll get an extension.
The real lesson I'm taking from this is 'never buy a kit thats as old as my parents' and buy shares in Squadron putty.

Looks like I am going to be able to finish the Air Marshall Islands' Greyhound in time - there have been moments when I really thought I wouldn't.

nothing is hidden by gloss white paint in direct sunlight.

Some fab progress guys got a little bit more Iwill dig out camera at weekend and gets some pics. Having to respray wheel bay so careful masking underway Then it is just a case of attach undercarriage and some other bits and bobs.

I have learnt from this campaign I really really do not like building modern jets

Everyones is looking closer to being finised than mine
I was hoping to do a lot of work next week seeing as I've got the time off, but my girlfriend has other plans.
Is there any chance of an extension???

I've just discussed this with Sam and we won't be giving an official extension. but Sam will be willing to still give a ribbon to anyone who finishes the campaign within a reasonable time frame.

Ready to try out my custom decals

oh hell yeah! Far from finished, lotta work yet to be done, the other side, landing gear and props, etc. but the decals are highly satisfactory.

and another look at the Dornier for reference.

I'm still working hard on it, it just might not make the deadline.
I've finished filling and sanding the fuselage and glued the wings on. Its now starting to look a lot more like a Rotodyne. I can't help but think that it belongs in some Gerry Anderson series at this point. Maybe fitting it with jet engines and Spectrum markings was a lost oppurtunity on my part.

I've dug out some drop-tanks and pylons from the spares box
(I think the sand coloured ones are from a Tornado?) I plan on fitting underwing. Not sure yet whether to go with the bigger or smaller tanks.

Jonathan I really like the way yours is turning out. It looks very believable. Grumman could have have a fortune selling them on the civvy market! Did you print the decals yourself or have them custom printed?

I'm leaving that idea for someone else. Building it once was bad enough

I'm ready for What-If Part-Deux, we could also do with a What-If-Hanger-Queens...

Stephen, yes printed on an HP color laserjet printer, on a sheet of Microscale clear trim film, oversprayed with Krylon gloss.

-- Gerry Anderson --
yes yes, "UFO!" was a fabulous show with lots of great models. That crazy looking whirly bird you're building could definately have appeared in that show.

Yes, what-if aircraft are allowed in the Hangar Queen 2 Campaign (I'm pretty sure, if I am indeed running it), but if you're close to finished here go ahead and wrap it up, because Sam and Allen have already said that ribbons will still be awarded for a (limited) while after the end date.
That said, the HQ2 Campaign ends on the 21st of December-- 10 months from now!
Cheers!
-Sean.
Reading, reading, here we go. "Must be site specific."-- meaning anything "Aero". Doesn't rule out what-ifs necessarily.

What about extending the deadline?

I've slowly been pecking away at my XB-70, trying to un-warp the wings and they are now "straight enough". But I have a monster seam to fill that refuses to behave. But once filled, it's off to the paint booth!

Landing gear and props on.

still work to do on the tail and cockpit windows

landing on some of the smaller islands is more than a little like landing on a carrier...

Don't the Hawkeye and Greyhound wear their main wheels inboard of the struts? Or is that another bit of your "what if"?

Great progress everyone I will get pics taken today and uploaded.
Had a busy couple of weekends recently as been helping the girl that runs the yard where Spirit is at weekends as she is an eventer and goes out competing and her apprentice is currently off with a broken jaw. So many stables to muck out, yard work and Ive ended up with a second horse to ride (the apprentices horse)by the time I get in at night Im too achy and tired to do much. Then its normal work mon-fri with sorting horse out aswell. Im enjoying it but will be glad when back to normal
