I finally got my laser jet printer back and made the decals for 748. Looks like I am going to be able to finish the campaign.
Had to do some patching around the edges on the tail, I didnt really develop the shape properly.
Still some detail work to do and the engine exhausts to deal with before sealing.

With the days of the campaign counting, I finalised the paintwork of my A-10. The result of the masking is fine, but unfortunately the dark grey is a bit too dark in my opinion.
The real thing:
In this picture, the dark grey may look lighter due to the sun on top of the plane.
I think I will try to reduce this dark colour by applying a filter of a lighter grey colour to reduce the contrast a bit.

@JClapp -Jonathan, Looking good and you are really close to finishing.
@spaarndammer -Jelger, it's hard to really get an idea of true colours from pictures of either the real thing or a model. Your A-10's dark grey doesn't look too extreme compared to pictures of the real thing that I've seen.
Update:
I believe that for the most part the building is nearing the end. The ordnance was a pain to clean up due to all the sprue attachment points but is now painted and attached. I do feel a certain satisfaction that I've gotten this far with this monster but all the effort it has required seems disproportionate to the model's size.
There's a number of areas of paint that need to be touched up and then the canopy to be painted and attached before turning to the decals.
Cheers,
Jan

Hi, Jan. You are really taming that monster! I like the fact that you've hung in there with the beastie. Alot of modellers, myself included, would have heaved a hevey sigh and put it back on the shelf. As for me, my Vulcan is almost ready for the decals- I think. This is the first model I've done in a very long time. It's a relearning experience. Anyway, all the best and keep-up the good fight.

Hi. Paul. I can't wait to see the Vulcan myself. Work has really taken alot of my "free" time. But I'm determined to finish the the Great White. I just need to give the model a good spray of Klear and then the decals. But, some of the decals are really, really small. We'll see what happens. All the best and happy glueing, JT

Your aircraft appears to be coming along beautifully, Jonathan, can't say the same for mine. I got the Future on my beast and stated some decals. I painted the canopy and then did a dry fit. No luck. The thing barely has the proper shape and contours to fit where it belongs. Sanded down the alien pilot, the seat, the front console and it still won't sit right. At this point I am almost to the point of chucking this monstrosity as I doubt there is enough time to fix the remaining problems. Here's the mess in the paint area as of this post.
Sorry about the pictures but I just snapped them quick with my PHD (Push Here Dummy) camera.

Hi, Jam. Really, don't give up. You're the boss not the kit! I'm nearly done with my Vulcan. Since this is my first build in upteen years, it"s a model of what NOT to do. But I'm learning as I go on. The first thing I learned was that 1/200th scale is really, really small. Anyway, hang in there. I'm rootin' for ya!

some of you's work to incredibly high standards, Ive observed, but at some point you just have to say - that's what I can do with what I've got here.
I'm not doing another thing to this HS748.

@tinbanger & usethermite - (and others) Thanks for the attempts at support but I am having serious doubts about this build. Trying to get the darn canopy to sit right is wasting tons of time. I got a few more decals on and the tail painted the required darker blue but it's still very slow going.
Paul, a lot will depend on how far I get this afternoon. The tiny size of the decals and how close together they are requires drying time between each one. Not to mention that there are a ton of them!
Back to work!

Well, the Vulcan is done but I can't seem to put my pic into my normal gallery. It goes to gallery/photo of its own and when I click on it all it does is give me a larger picture, nothing else. There is no icon to click, no line of code to copy and paste. This hasn't happen before. All my previous pics are in my gallery- except the one I really want to have. I'm I doing something wrong (probably)?

No, it's a result of the server move. The gallery still hasn't been completely migrated over to the new servers so of course the upload functions are not working. We'll post an announcement when the gallery is ready to go again. In the meantime, do you have an offsite photo hosting service like Photobucket or Flickr? You could temporarily put your pictures there and then link them to your post so you can share them with us.

Hi, Jessica- lordy, you are such a life saver! I thought I was going nuts- okay, more nuts than usual. I've been thinking about doing what you suggested. Which site is easier to use? Remember, I'm the guy who took three weeks to upload a photo. It's funney- I can do my CAD at work with no problems, but this photo stuff, well... Anyway, thanks for the help. Oh, by the way, how's the little Kitty Kat coming along?

JT, FWIW, I use Photobucket! It's easy to use and has a one click copy mode for Image files that you just paste into an Kitmaker message.
As for my build, I got the decals on from nose to beginning of the tail and the landing struts painted white. Those decals are now Future coated and I have about three of the dozen or so decals on the tail placed by 6:00 pm my time today. They will need Future coat, the whole thing flat coated, tires painted and the canopy attached.
Not sure I can make the deadline even rushing so a two or three day extending of it would be most welcome. :-)
Cheers,
Almost There Jan

There you go, Jan. What with the gallery down you might get a few days extra. Either way, you should get an award for staying the course. If it had been me, I would have tried to build something else. I admire your going the whole nine yards. Think when I have some more free time, I'LL give Photobucket a try. Hope I don't blow the site up! Happy Gluing, JT

Due to the ongoing issues with the gallery after the server move I've decided to extend the campaign by a week (8th July 2012) to hopefully give time for the gallery to be fixed and allow for you all to upload your pictures.
I'll review the situation closer to the new end date and decide what to do then.
Keep at it guys and gals

Thanks for all your support and encouragement, JT. This build is turning into a battle of wills and I wasn't prepared for that. I even have found myself threatening the little Harrier with being either run over or the target of a 1/72 scale Thor railway gun!

Yippee, yippee and thanks, thanks thanks, Allen!!!!!
I've persevered with the little and even had a friend offer to vaccuform me a new canopy. However, I was still trying to finish this beast before the deadline so I graciously declined his kind offer. Besides, the existing canopy could hardly be used as a model.
Anyway, I've almost got one side of the tail done with decals. There were a lot more than I anticipated and I still have two more to go on that side. For the life of me I can't see why they couldn't have combined some parts into one larger decal. Here's a couple of quick shots of the creature at this time. In between I also got the landing gear struts, hubs and tires painted as well as the gear doors and bays. 10X0 brush to the rescue!
Back to work!
Cheers,
Jan

Hi, Jan. Well, the gods have smiled upon you! That little rat Harrier knows who the boss is now! I was thinking if it was me I would have slapped a pair of pop-bottle rockets on the evil thing, waited until the 4th, and then let fly. Zooom, BANG! I do so like a happy ending.

Jan has a shorter deadline. We Canuckians do that sort of thing on the First.
