Pffff, so many decals on my little A-10, already at least +10 decals for the no step.... I never will finish this little beast in time, but I will post a picture here tonight of its current progress.

Just tried to upload the pic of my finished Typhoon into the campaign-gallery. When I klicked on ''Process'' this showed up:
Error creating thumbnail! Error code: 1
Command:
"/usr/bin/mogrify" +profile "*" -size 0x150 -quality 70 -geometry 0x150 '/home/gallery3/public_html/data/27162/thumbs/Seite1.jpg'
What's wrong? Size is 300 kb and it's jpeg, so shouldn't be a problem right?

Read the last 10 posts. The photo gallery is being moved to a new server. The end of this campaign is extended 7 days.

That arcane ability of forming a sound thought before blurting out seems to help. Will keep that in mind....
Post my pisc later then.

Okay, so I've slowed down a bit as there is a bit more time. I somewhat underestimated the number of decals on each side of the tail, let alone how tiny they were. However, with the help of a fine needle for positioning, the decals are all finally on. I hope! The canopy is only placed on for the pictures and it's still going to need quite a bit more work. With the extension I'll have to rethink about that offer to try to form a replacement canopy.
Still enough to do with a top coat of Future over the decals, paint touch ups and then a flat coat.
No wonder I've stuck to things that crawl on the ground up until now!!
Cheers,
Jan

Boy am I glad for the extension. Due to some work pressures i was unable to sit at the bench for almost 3 months. And i managed to start this build on the 14th only to fall ill with an ear infection on the 20th. I'm in a rush to finish and was unable to take any progress pics. All i have are these two....

looks great! Connie was one of the most graceful aircraft ever. please forge on.
Is that the Revell kit? I have a Minicraft one half done, one of oh, so many hanger queens.
note complete absence of panel details.

Hey gang! Time is slipping by but I finally got the last decals on Sunday and then sealed everything with a gloss coat. Enter my SWMBO who needed to wet a Q-Tip with airbrush cleaner for use with her own painting project. What happens when a drop of said cleaner falls onto the right (starboard) wing! Yup, the curse of this Harrier from Hell continues. Then while trying to quickly wipe the offending drop off, the plane fell out of the "Helping Hands" and broke off the left Sidewinder. One step forward, two steps back! One interesting point is that Badger Airbrush Cleaner appears to be great at removing several layers of paint, Future and decals and leaving bare plastic.
Right wing repainted and restoration started. Thankfully there were enough spare decals.
Wing restored, gloss coated and then flat coated. Note the missing missile.
Now to get the missile reattached, some minor touch-ups and glue the canopy down. Oh, and avoid any more near disasters.

Well, I've had it, that's it, I can't take any more. it'll do! My patience, let alone my talents in building a flying thing are pretty much exhausted and I'm calling this nightmare over. I tried to post to the campaign gallery but it still isn't functional as I get the dreaded "File Type Unsupported" error.
I got the canopy on as best as I could using Testors Windowmaker to try to fill any little gaps. After that I patched up a few little anomalies and a final coat of flat varnish. The pictures here are hosted on Photobucket so they should remain available for some time. The first two were meant for the campaign gallery.
This campaign has been a interesting and learning diversion and I will admit that I like these little 1/144 aircraft. I still have three in the stash (1 Revell, 2 Dragon) so I may build one of them once I get over the trauma from this monstrous kit. Good luck to those striving to get their builds complete.
Cheers,
Jan

@ludwig113 - Paul, as far as I am concerned the jury is still out on it being a "great" job but thanks for the sentiment. It definitely is not competition quality unless of course the entered category is empty at the point of judging.
@JClapp - Jonathan, I must admit that at this point I am starting to feel a tiny amount of accomplishment or satisfaction. As I mentioned above, I really think that I enjoy working with this scale, just not this particular manufacturer. If I had a dollar for every time I thought about running this thing through a shredder I'd probably have enough to pay for a full load of fuel for the real thing.
Thanks,
Jan

A triumph! You didn't allow that monster to get the better of you. Now for relaxation I strongly recommend a current issue Revell kit rather than those old and crusty Dragon ones
Anyone can build a good kit. It takes a skilled and dedicated modeller to make junk look good. You've shown that you have the Right Stuff!

@Jessie_C - Thanks for the kind words and all the encouragement that you've (and others) offered. That and a stubborn streak I didn't know I had seemed to result in something other than the shredded plastic I mentioned earlier. As for trying a Revell, I definitely will at some future time. However, the innate masochist in me has me wondering about doing a 1/144 Dragon Tornado F3 111 Squadron Anniversary version for the Bae campaign. It looks simple enough (gulp!) and two reviews that I've read about it suggest that it's one of their better kits from the era with minimal issues.
Cheers,
Jan

Hi, Jan. Well done, sir! You mintained and tamed that rat Harrier. And I'm happy to hear you're not totally put off from doing another 1/144 kit. There really are some great kits/builds out there. And that Tornado is one of them. I have that in my stash- looks very nice. Once again, well done!

@JT - Thanks for the accolade and not to worry, I've had a thing for 1/144 aircraft since the Revell Super Tomcat. doing these properly, considering the size, is one big draw for me. As for the Tornado, I checked out the kit after my last post and it looks promising at this point. The only warning I read is about the upper and lower fuselage halves not aliging well at the rear and one instruction mistake with the vertical tail. Hope to see your Vulcan soon (always liked the looks of those).
Cheers,
Jan

Jan: The Vulcan is ready. Just waiting on the gallery. And it looks really good- that is, if you turn the lights down way low, stand across the room, and wear sunglasses. It was a good build. No real serious problems and I learned a few things. Oh, and I only lost one part! Woo-woo! Now the Harrier is finished, have a beer on me, push on and stay happy.

Good job on that Connie Raj! Russell
P.S. Here is a photo of a Connie I finished in 1/144 scale in Eastern Airlines markings, just for comparison.
