Thanks Jess, I figured it had to be something like tire black. I lived in Japan for 4 1/2 years and used Gunze paints for most of my time there, it's just one I couldn't confirm as i never picked up a bottle before I left. I'll still need to find a which interior green they are calling. we found out towards the end of the '30s the power of "Paint and Preservation" when it come to metal birdies at sea. Though beautiful the yellow wing was doomed in more ways than one with changes in technology.

Rob thanks, for the coinversion chart. but the mystery of the tone for C351 is still around. When I lived in Japan I'd get the color sets Gunze did and C351 was in he interior set alon with 2 other common interior greens. What I find odd is that it's not listed in that color chart.

It's amusing that Gunze chose the box top illustration to be a P-47, which uses none of the available colours in the set.

Jessica,
Yes, makes you wonder if their different departments actually communicate.
That could be said for a lot of companies.
Cheers Rob.

May I point out that for US Aviation. Gunze had 3 colors Zinc cromate 1, Yellow Chromate, amd Zinc Chromate 2. the rirst 2 came in set 1. thae latter in set 2. set 2 included some other international colors but corrected a mistake in name Zinc Chromate 1, instead of the correct Interior Green
FS 34151. This is a common thing in Japan. With 3 common languages: Japanese, Russian, and English and 5 Alphabets life and lableing gets difficult, which leads to the funny language of ENGRISH www.engrish.com . Now this is full of bad conjucation of the English language and the pain of misnaming paints. So please bare with Gunze if you are using their paints as stuff shipped to the US may be misnamed and color chips may need to used. Also like Tamiya, some of their products shipped may not be compatable with products we are use from the same manufacturer. A good example being when Tamiya first started shipping thinner over to the US for their paints, they sent the thinnner for their enamel line instead of their imported acrylic line. BTW, Gunze made the same mistake. Hope that made things clear as mud and enjoy Engrish.com. I posted a few of those myself living Japan so many years ago.

Hi all. Just added my name to the list, though I'm still not sure what to build. DC-2,3 or 4 would be nice, but we'll see. If I can't make up my mind, I'll just build a Dauntless as I have a bunch of 'em in the stash already.

Hah! Not enough time for that But I should have revell's boxing of dc-3 in finnish air force markings lying around somewhere in the apartment. Maybe it's time to finally build it...

Hi All
I have submitted a campaign proposal for a Douglas Aircraft Campaign covering DC-1 through DC-7 civil and military variants.
If interested please post here.
I have an Airfix DC3 that I can build for this campaign. The decals are toast, I'll acquire some new ones, something Alaskan.

Some colours Gunze do are not available outside the sets. Gunze and Tamiya paints are all I ever need here at Casa Inman. Gunze spray particularly well when you get the thinning and air-pressure just right and I never get clogging with either brand in the airbrush.

Ditto here, nothing but Tamiya and Gunze and never have airbrush problems (until I have a brain fade and leave paint in the jar for a week!)

Time for another teaser to keep the interest going.
The C-133 Cargomaster, the very last propeller aircraft to come out of Douglas' doors:
And it even flew in civilian cargo ops (although the paint job is very boring)

Hi Jessica.
Is this a C-130 with a kit bash between the wings and cockpit?

Really liking the idea of this one. I have a few in the stash to choose from when it comes down to it, all 1/72 of course.
AD-6 Skyraider (Hasegawa)
B-18 Bolo (Special Hobby)
TBD Devastator (Encore/Airfix)
Leaning towards the Skyraider, love the looks of those things.

Nothing like it. C-133 is much bigger for a start. It has a superficial resemblance but that is all.
Cheers

The C-133 was a strategic airlifter, not a tactical one. It could only land on prepared runways and was not equipped to air-drop freight. It was principally designed to carry ballistic missiles around to SAC missile bases.
Now on to our teaser of the day, the sole McDonnell propeller aircraft eligible for this campaign
The XP-67 was a sleek and sexy design let down by disappointing engines.
