This one's got something for everybody. C-39's to C-118s, B-18, B-23, Firebombers, freighters, airliners, even a fighter or two (a C-47 was credited with a Zero during WW II, and Puff was first designated the FC-47 until the fighter jocks whined loudly enough that it was changed to AC-47). What are we waiting for?

Douglas piston powered transports are top dead center of my area of interest.
I'll just bring this over from the other thread-

I have a Welsh vacuform kit Ill try to make look like this.

We have 1/72 kits available from the DC-2 to the DC-6. The DC-7 can be made from a conversion kit available from Contrails Models while the DC-1 can be made from a shortened DC-2.

In 1/144 we have everything but the DC-1 available, and once again that's a fairly simple conversion. We're well served for kits to fit anyone's tastes.

I've realised that I didn't name the kits, so here goes:

1/72
DC-2 MPM
DC-3 Italeri (also in Revell and Airfix boxes), Esci (if you can find it)
DC-4 Mach-2, Rareplanes (if you can find one)
DC-5 Planet Models (resin)
DC-6 Heller

1/144
DC-2 Czech Master
DC-3 Welsh, Minicraft
DC-4 Welsh, Minicraft
DC-5 F-Rsin
DC-6 Welsh, Minicraft, Roden
DC-7 Welsh, Roden, F-rsin

There was also a very basic vacuform 1/72 DC-5 available from Execuform, but it's pretty rare these days.

Jessie, I do have to say we are forgetting a few other Douglas contrabutions to Aviation. I personally think an expanded campaign or GB would draw more interest. There are several more to choose from especially if you are going to bring up the AC-47. I'd have to say for me the early Douglas of my lust is the good old "Ford" F4D Skyray. Also, would get a few building Devastators and Dauntlesses. Maybe even an Phabulous Phantom or Eagle or two if this was expanded to the companies full history. The only question would be if the C-17 Globemaster would be allowed under the expanded GB. Though McD D designed the aircraft, the first flight and production airframes were under the Boeing name.

the C-47 should command enough interest by itself for a GB.

We already have a Phantom and Bird Of Prey campaigns lined up if you want to build jets.
You could post your interest for a C-17 campaign and see if you get enough interested in it.

Don't forget the license built versions of the DC-3/C-47. The Soviets built the Lisunov Li-2 of which A-Model molds no less than 3 versions. The Japanese built a version as well, but I cannot remember what they called it.

Or were they license built? Perhaps they derived from the cloak-n-dagger method.

The Japanese Dak was the Showa L2D, called "Tabby" by the American military code name system. It was license built, and differed from the Douglas aircraft by having one or more extra cockpit windows on each side aft of the usual Douglas ones. They also often had small spinners on the propeller hubs.

If we're talking about obscure Douglas aircraft, there's also the DC-4E, which was never developed. The sole aircraft was sold to Japan and became the basis for the nearly equally unsuccessful Nakajima G5N bomber.

One more that never got off the drawing board was the DC-8 Skybus concept, based on the mechanics of the XB-42 bomber.

Does anybody know if there are conversion parts to one of the South African turboprop versions, with the lengthened fuselage. Could be fun.

There is (or was) a kit in 1/48 by Red Bear Resins. Here's a review.
Heritage Aviation did one in 1/72. I'm not sure whether it's still available.

Aha! I found that Red Bear Turbo Dak conversion on sale at Ne Omega's website. Be warned that it isn't exactly cheap.

probably not till ten people commit - this thread is for getting the required number of people to say they would like the campaign before we can get it submitted and then get said 'enlist link'

It's very tight as it is. I had to do a little pushing to get it to *click* into position.
