LOL 300k's from home and you took plastic with you? Now that's dedication to the cause D! I must admit to having a soft spot for AMT aircraft kits they made some really good stuff for time and it still holds up well today. Can't wait to see the P70 built D as I was thinking about building one as well.

Yes Chris, dedication above and beyond ! I always have a couple of hours after I finish work for the day on these country runs, and absolutely nothing on the idiot box appeals to me, so I pack a couple of kits and a small box of tools, sandpaper and glue, and work on cleaning up parts and starting the sub-assemblies while I listen to some music and enjoy a beer or a glass of red.

This kit is going together really well so far, only some very minor sanding and scraping to get a very nice fit.

Hi Ken,
An interesting fact was discovered long after that kit was tooled: The drawings everyone had been working with were wrong, so the nose Matchbox made for the Mk.14 is too long. Use the Mk.12 nose and you'll be correct. John Adams discovered this when he measured a Mk.12 and a Mk.14 for his 1.48 kits.

I really shouldn't have sprayed the silver; there's still too much work left to do so I'll have to prime it again.

Hi Jessica, the closet of shame? What does then make my man cave then? The den of iniquity? oh well, the hangar queen looks good in the pic Jessica but it is of course not a close up and each and every modeler knows exactly where their glitches are.

A beer, good music and so model time sounds a little like heaven after a long days slog D.

Yes, it's the Revellogram 1/48 kit from about 10 years ago. The panel lines are very nicely scribed. Here's a close-up of the nose/cockpit area.

Here is the telling of my progress. The author does that there is a lip between the port and starboard ventral wings. It is the starboard wing that holds the ventral fuselage part which is attached to the port wing. Not that big so should be easy to rectify. The pito tube is pre-attached thus just waiting to be broken off and sure enough I obliged.

@Ken: Hi Ken what scale is the meteor? Looks like a simple enough kit to build typical matchbox any idea as to how well it will fit together? Looking forward to seeing it completed!

@Jon: nice looking Corsair Jon loving the build so far. Will this be an all black bird or will it be the usual navy blue? Tamiya certainly has done a great job with this particular kit in 1/48. I have a soft spot for this bird (F4U-1 and 1D) as the RNZAF was the second largest user of this aircraft behind the US (Some 436 air-frames or there abouts). I've just realised I really LIKE a wide range of aircraft! LOL

@Jessica: I must admit to having a serious soft spot for Monogram/Revell kits, reasonable detail at a great price and the fit is usually very good. I'm looking forward to seeing it built. Will it be a natural metal finish Jessica? My attempts at this particular finish show me I need to be more patient with filling and sanding!

@Trevor: So far so good buddy! Was the gap at the wing root a fault in the kit? Could it have been overcome with sanding the joining surfaces or was the fuselage part to narrow? I only ask so that when I come to building mine forewarned is forearmed! The kit does look really good and the cockpit looks fantastic I'm loving what you've done so far!

@Adam: How well has the kit gone together Adam I see that you've had to use filler. Were the gaps big or was it just that the seams needed tidying up? I have a desire to build one of these in 1/48 I really like the whole zwilling idea and the mistel too for that matter, two aircraft flying as one!

@Chris: Only one real gap at a wing root and the rest is minor seam filling, I'm using Mr. Surfacer 500, letting it dry then removing with Nail Polish Remover, so it's slathered on and little will remain when done.

Note my copy was an original release out of my Dad's stash, I'll pretty much guarantee that current issue copies don't fit nearly as well.

Just a note on the Corsair and its users, the FAA was the second largest user, receiving just over 2000 Corsairs during WW2. The RNZAF was the second largest postwar user with its 400+ corsairs.

This is my first time using Tamiya's RAF Dark Green. Seems a bit too yellow to me, but that may just be me. Not off enough to repaint, anyway.

It's going to be silver paint, like the teaser shot I posted, but with a good buffing of SNJ metal powder. I find that gives the best "weathered aluminium" finish. Models that are too shiny just don't look right to me, even though the finish is often gobsmackingly impressive

@Chris: I would have to agree...the Corsair has to be one of my most favorite aircraft of all time. I will be doing this one up in Marine colors...blue grey.
I would have to agree with you on the way Tamiya has done this kit, so much that I just bought th 1D variant the other day and probably will eventually get the 1A variant.

@Adam: Sorry Adam you are quite correct! Just goes to show that you should check your sources before opening your mouth! I will try to find where I read that as it would seem that there must have been other information contained int hat particular passage, but of course time and memory has left the other information out.

There is some nice looking work, guess I have some catch up to do, I am just painting cockpit, so should have some images up soon.
