Thanks Daniel, I'll enjoy the beer
Quite a lot of fun building a big flying thing instead of a big floaty thing

I'll get an update online tomorrow. I have been getting some of the piping to fit at the business end of the Napier. I finally sliced a piece of the pipe out and replaced it with soldering wire so I could get it to fit in neatly. I am also working on a way to be able to display the instrument panel and oil tank without the side plating. The instrument panel looks great but the backside, ( I hate it when I say that), looks amazingly devoid of detail. I have cobbled up a canvas cover using tissue and diluted white glue, maybe not accurate but will look very nice when painted and displayed.

Hi Julian, if you look at the pictures of the Duxford Typhoon cockpit section in your ADH book it doesn't look as if there is anything between the instrument panel and the oil tank.
If you chose not to use the shroud you've made you will need some sort of representation of the instruments sticking out of the back(side) of the instrument panel as I'm sure that some of them would be visible, and then you'll need some wiring! Good luck
John

Why do you think I am fitting a shroud? Not much room to fiddle about with jury rigged instruments and wiring so I'll stick with this option

August 23rd update:
the piping fits behind the circular coolant reservoir with no problems now so surgery successful. The shroud to mask the "black hole" between the oil tank and the instrument panel has been fitted. Looks prominent now but a little further along in the build that should get cured, (I know where I am going I am in control ). The cockpit is very nearly finished now, just the throttle and prop pitch controls to have the Airscale decals added:

August 24th update:
After watching the Belgium Grand Prix for the first two laps I spent the rest of the afternoon working on the Napier again.
For a new model there is a horrifying amount of flash to trim and file away that is more reminiscent of some of the older Eastern European offerings. Certainly not what you would expect from a new Airfix mould. Something to do with producing it in India? The detail is good once you have scraped and filed a lot of gunk away:

Thanks Russell, I seem to be spending all my available model building time on the Typhoon and none on the Hornet at the moment. A great model to build albeit with some warts
P.s. congrats on another great job by Daniel, 3rd win this year.I was thoroughly disgusted by Rosberg's filthy trick.

haha... but it looks like it cost him the race? Go Daniel!
Warts are good-keeps us busy... Having said that I had a good look at my kit and it doesn't seem to have any flash. This would mean the molds are fine, but if they run the molding machines with the wrong settings flash might occur. More than likely it was a dodgy shift that's molded your tiffy... Nothing we can't fix though

Great looking engine Julian, I haven't seen the blue object on any other builds, is it some sort of filter and did you paint it or is a decal supplied?
Your comments about flash etc prompted me to get mine out and have a close look and it doesn't have any flash either. I guess you were unlucky and got one from a batch of 'Friday afternoon' jobs.
Keep at it.

Julian, fantastic work as usual! But by now we expect nothing less
Over here we call them Monday morning jobs ( still hung over from the weekend ) Still, and all, with new molds hopefully it is just annoying and not a major headache.
Watched the Spa race, I don't think Rosberg did it on purpose since he risked more damage to himself and a probable FIA sanction. That being said it was definitely poor judgement on his part, he was pushing Lewis too much. I should think Mercedes should be having a long tak with him before next season. IMHO
Later
ps sorry about the

Check the cockpit framework and the engine parts, they really were pretty grungy. And of course we can fix it, you just end up with biceps' like King Kong from all the filing and scraping

Hi John, the part you refer to looks suspiciously like an oil filter, probably should be olive green and it might still end up that color Does draw the attention to that part of the Napier though

Hi Bruce,
Thank you sir
Besides gnashing my teeth and calling down dire curses on Rosberg I actually had a nice weekend celebrating my 58th birthday, my eldest son mailed me this little gem:
Can't for the world of me think who he's referring to

I see a couple of rough spots that need attention
That's the main reason I build in blog format these days, keeps me honest and sometimes I post a photo and wonder how in the hell I missed this or that.
