David, first welcome. I am not familiar with Cooper Details products. What are they and could we get a larger photo. I love the Sea Fury.

Cooper Details were what Roy Sutherland used to do before he started Barraduca Studios. The Sea Fury set is quite comprehensive, and replaces pretty much all of the Hobbycrap Sea Fury's detail parts with parts which are actually accurate. The only drawback about it is that the cockpit is all black, and once you're done all that lovely detail might as well be invisible unless you shine a penlight in there.

I like the details, too, though it will not really be seen at all. Like Jessie said, black interior and it disappears.

I would like to add this F4F-4 Wildcat to the build.
This will be my first aircraft build above the 1/700 scale. I mainly been building armor and ships. I been wanting to do a aircraft build and I thought joining this build would be the push I needed to start one. Hoping that Tamiya aircraft are as easy to build as their armor and ships e.g. little or no fit issues or flash.
Any ideas on how to proceed? I rarely follow the instructions step by step. With ship building you build up and then out so you don't knock installed parts off reaching in to attach a part. Wings, engine, cockpit first?

I usually follow the instructions, everything sort of surrounds the cockpit so most airplane models start with the cockpit. If I get bored I'll do the stuff you add on at the end such as the propeller, bombs, rockets, wheels, etc. That way when I get to that step I'll have them ready to slap on.

Mark. Don has some good tips. The only ideas that I have are 1. take inventory of the parts.
2. Test fit the main items (fuselage, wings, stab, and see if the cockpit formers allow the fuselage to mate with out any problems).

here are the plastic parts all sanded out. the shapes all look good.
now the metal parts, a rudamentary cockpit, engine fronts, landing gear, including a nicely detailed nose wheel door, and the hose chute, if you wanted to make a tanker.
I actually have in mind to finish it as this camoflaged RA-3B photographed on Kwaj around 1967 or 68 by fellow Kwaj kid Janet Rossi's dad.

This camo scheme is fortunately
well documented. I think I might need to fold the wings!

masking greenhouse canopies is certainly one of the most challenging tasks. i always dread it.
That cockpit interior is beautiful, so its good there is so much glass to look through.

Some progress to report - fabricated wheel well and interior bulkheads from stock per instructions -
cut open the cockpit and nose wheel door, cut out the vacuform canopy. dry fit ups look excellent.

Here's my start pic, a Hasegawa F4U-4B, 1:48, out of the box build. My last plane was 5 years ago and that was a "get it done" project. I've been painting wargame minis for the last decade + (some in the pic) and if a model does sneak onto my table it's either a tank or figures. This kit is one from my stash, I purchased it at least 20 years ago.

Therefore, I'll be doing Trumpeters 1/48 RA-5C Vigilante. So far doing some parts clean up and it doesn't look too bad!
