It has been some time since I have been on the site. I see a lot of really great building photos.
Life gets in the way at times.
This is where I left off on the SNJ.

If it aint broke dont fix it.

Is the Korean War campaign official yet? What are the actual sign-up procedures? It will be my first.

Wow, I've kinda stalled on this one too. I need to get my F-14 back to the paint shop.

Brian,
Yep, it's official. To sign up, go
here and, on the right side of the page, click on the "Enlist" button. Should be a good one (as is this one!)

So as I've recently finished a couple of models and got a couple more approaching completion time to throw my hat in the ring with this one.
A good, un-complicated kit with a nice un-complicated scheme, I'm hoping for a relatively quick build.

Neil, what is your opinion re: this Hasegawa F6f vs. the Eduard F6f?

Hi Bob, I've never built the Eduard kit so I can't compare. I built the Hasegawa kit ~20 years ago and it's a typical Hasegawa kit of that era - Good fit, good detail, not over engineered. Cant comment on accuracy but it looks like a Hellcat to me

Neil, if you like it that is all that matters.
I had planned on painting my SNJ this week, but several thunderstorms came through so not taking a chance my moister filter will work.

Painted and ready for decals.

Had issues with the primer in the end and couldn't be fussed to keep trying to fix it, so even with a gloss coat (and it looks very glossy in person at the moment) the paint feels very gritty from the undercoat.

iain, I love the S-2. I had the chance to be around a couple while stationed at NAS Patuxent River in the early 70's.
Yours look good.

Thanks Bob.
I do wish the primer hadn't gone so rough, and there are a few gaps that have shown up under paint, but overall I am reasonably satisfied with progress so far though a few after market bits could really lift this kit.

@Iain, I have done much worse with the primer. I use Vallejo and overspray always shows. Yours looks good from here.
@Neal and @Frank, I love Hellcats, bring them on!
@Steve, I can't see the image.
I have finished with the interior of my Seahawk. Mixed feelings about the model: Lacks fine detail but builds nicely, I would have prefered a more complex model with more details. I added the Eduard set and, for the first time for me, a few scratch details that I am really proud of.

Thanks Carlos, your Seahawk is coming along nicely too.
Decals have been completed on one side of my Tracker. A Uni deadline meant I had to put it on hold so it will be stuck like this for another week I think.

Carlos, nice job on your Seahawk.
Iian, really good looking S2.
I have already sprayed on 3 coats of XF-3 yellow on my SNJ and it still looks like it needs more.

i found that yellow does not cover very well. So I did something unexpected and read tips on painting. If the area is painted white first the yellow will stand out.

@Iain the Tracker looks fantastic, did you sand the primer down?
@Bob, the SNJ looked yellow from here but I am sure a white coat will help.
I have been the whole week messing about with my Seahack filling gaps, sanding, scribing and again and again. I got burned the Friday and decided to prime and move on.
I clearly need more practice re-scrbing. Next time....

David, it is nice to have the Enterprise aboard. I will follow your progress eagerly. Just had the chance to purchase the DVD Midway ( I had not heard of the film until recently ) and loved the scenes of the Enterprise.

The SNJ is yellow now, but I was wondering if they were flat are gloss.

Hi all,
Enlisted just now. My kit will come on Saturday, aftermarket on it's way too.
Academy kit 12305 F-4J will be my build for the campaign. Searching for aftermarket decals to build Coral Sea CVA-43_F-4J_VF-194 Red Lightnings, still no match found, so advice on where to look is appreciated.
See you soon with my starting pictures.
