SORRY! I have not been successful with producing a ribbon using paint. So if anyone would like to offer up one. GREAT.

The kit that I had planned on using (Hasegawa B5n) was cancelled. So I will go with an SNJ, by building an MONOGRAM kit.

Here's my start photo.

It's the Shanghai Dragon 1/144 Grumman F-14 with Fire Engine.

Not a lot to it, Maybe I can finish in time.

The flight crew is molded into the seats/cockpit.

Bob, here's the deck section.

The two small sprues hold the fire engine, several crewmen and a bonus tug (absolutely no build instructions).

One questions for all of you old salts, the instructions call for the sailor's paints to be Khaki Green, is that legit? What ever happened to blue denim?:|

The wing gave me a little trouble. It was as if I was 7 again with the amount of glue I applied to the wing tip. Ill just let it dry then trim the excess off.

Jonathan, I feel your pain re: the sanding!

I remember the Whale while at NAS Jacksonville. We were going through aircrew/ordnance class and one of the many films we had to sit through was on bad carrier landings.

In a 30 minute film from the late 1950's early 1960's more than half of the film dealt with the Douglas A-3 Skywarrior. It sure seemed that the 282 aircraft Douglas built at one time or another had a bad landing aboard a carrier. WELL! at least it seemed that way to a 19 year old.

I will watch your build with interest.

Howdy Y'all
Here's the kit I'll be building. My intention is to also build the moto tug, paint an aircraft carrier deck base, and build a vignette. I want the Corsair with the wings folded. I'll use the Eduard Brassin HVR rockets since these will be very noticeable when the wings are folded.

Can't wait to see everyone's projects. I have not finished an aircraft model in years so wish me luck.

Oops. The kit is a 1/48 Tamiya F4U-1D w/Moto Tug. I got rid of most of the box as it got water logged in an accident. The instructions are almost trash so I'll need to download a pdf copy off the internet. The kit is now a bagged kit.
BTW-Does anyone know the "correct" interior green for Corsairs?

Don, I looked through those F4U decals and they are for RNZAF WW II.

I believe F4U-1Ds were standard interior green (34151 as I recall) below the side consoles and black above them.

Bob-I really appreciate the offer. I think the RNZF used F4U-1 and F4U-1a planes. I don't know if they used the regular wings or the shortened wings like the FAA used. This will be a F4U-1D build, hopefully a little vignette with the moto-tug that comes with the kit.
Michael-Thanks for the info. I didn't know if the Corsair used the same color as the Hellcat. Seems like there was some variation with the different aircraft manufacturers.

Don, you are correct!

I played with the SNJ last night. I decided to open up the rudder control cable exit and stretch some sprue to mimic the cable. Since this is supposed to be an SNJ used for carrier quals, I made an arrestor hook from Evergreen .30 rod.

I'll be building the Hawker Sea Fury FB II with some Cooper Details aftermarket bits.

David, first welcome. I am not familiar with Cooper Details products. What are they and could we get a larger photo. I love the Sea Fury.

Cooper Details were what Roy Sutherland used to do before he started Barraduca Studios. The Sea Fury set is quite comprehensive, and replaces pretty much all of the Hobbycrap Sea Fury's detail parts with parts which are actually accurate. The only drawback about it is that the cockpit is all black, and once you're done all that lovely detail might as well be invisible unless you shine a penlight in there.

Jesse, thank you for the information. OK! I will need to send the P-80 nose wheel separate. I just found it on my work bench.

No photos to prove it but I actually got some paint laid down last night. A bit of gray in the cockpit and some more on the bottom of the wings.
