Hi there
I think Martin missed Dennis's request to carry on - so, to get the ball rolling again, he's a nice WW2 bomber to identify. What's ths?:
All the best

Me too! :-)
I think Rowan just wanted to make the ball run again... so he threw a small fish to the sharks! :-)
Here's another "Frankenstein" plane:
There are four different planes to find (fuselage, tail, right wing and left wing)... good luck!

Hi Jean-Luc
Here goes:
Fuselage: Beriev MBR-2
Tail: Blohm & Voss Bv 222 Wiking
Right Wing: Vought OS2U Kingfisher
Left Wing: Mitsubishi F1M "Pete"
A very international mix!
All the best

Hi Jean-Luc
The tail had me foiled for a while - at first glance, I thought it was an Ar 234 - then it dawned on me that you'd been "kind" to us and chosen seaplanes and a flying boat for the other parts and I had to go hunting... That was a very nifty bit of surgery!
I'll see if I can find something a bit harder than my Hampden for you.
All the best
Rowan

Hi again
Here we are - not something from a Buck Danny comic strip, but a real design that never made it. What's this?

Hi Jean-Luc
Your wild guess wasn't so far off the mark! It was indeed a Boulton Paul design... as Andy correctly identified. The P92 was to be armed with 4 x 20mm Hispano cannon and powered by a pair of the doomed R.R. Vulture engines.
Well done Andy - over to you.
All the best

VF(N)-41
Otherwise, (I'll get into trouble with this, but...) VMF(N) 533 is the top scoring Night Fighter Squadron of the Pacific Theater in WWII.

That maybe Fred, but would you call a marine a sailor to their face. I'm looking fof a VF(N) and just their night kills. VF(N)-41 is close but has one less night kill than the squadron I'm after.

Hi Fred
According to U.S. Navy Fighter Squadrons in World War II by Barrett Tillman. VF(N)-90 was credited with 21 night kills to VF(N)-41 20 night kills. The book also states that of 145 VF(N) victories an estimated 57 where nocturnal.I find this book a useful reference source especially when trying to decipher USN squadron histories.
David
Thanks for the link about the Bats

Hi David,
My money is on Mr. Tillman's work.
While searching for your answer I found an incomplete list of the U.S. Navy WWII Fighting Squadrons . The author states, "All of the information in this table was summarized from Barrett Tillman's excellent U.S. Navy Fighter Squadrons in World War II. Any errors or over-simplifications are my mistakes, not the author's." It is still a very interesting table.
I dunno if it was me, but you asked a challenging question that was fun and informative to ferret out the answer. Found some bad info out there which you corrected. I hope I can come up with a stumper.
