Is it a Fairey Kangaroo? (or Kangourou?)
It is the only Fairey I haven't found photos for... if it is a Fairey than perhaps this one:)

Hi Gábor
I know the Blackburn Kangaroo - but I've not come across a Fairey design by that name. Anyway - this is a Fairey prototype fighter and, by way of an extra clue, the name was re-used for a later aircraft from the same company...

Hi Chuck
The hounds have the scent! Not the Fox (Wow! That'd make a nice 1/48 scale kit for someone to bring out! Eduard?) - but getting close. This is a single-seater from 1926...

Hi again
OK - I think it's high time to put everyone out of their misery! I though the hint that Fairey re-used the name might have given it away...

This was the original 1926 Firefly I - a companion to the Fox (Chuck, you were getting SO close!) and a rival to the Hawker Hornbill, Avro Avenger and Gloster Gorcock.
Right. Now for something completely different! A chance to include a link to my family home on the Isle of Wight. Name the inventor of this WW2 life-boat:

Wow, Firefly I...
Is there a kit of it? It is a very elegant plane. It would look very classy near my Heller Dragon Rapide on the shelf.

Hi Gábor
The Firefly I was a beautiful aircraft wasn't it - and just imagine if it had made it into RAF service! I've never come across a kit of it, but there might be a resin kit from a small producer out there somewhere...

Hey Merlin
Would the inventor be Uffa Fox ?

Nice one Peter!
Yes, it was Uffa Fox - an almost legendary character on the Isle of Wight.
All the best and over to you for the next question.

Hi Peter
What's the question?
All the best
Rowan
P.S. But apart from that, is there any chance we can see more of your uncle's collection of photos? I'm guessing there could be some amazing stuff in there!

D'oh ! A question...... mmm that would be a good idea
Question.... Can you tell me what aircraft the nose art is applied to.... ?
I don't really think it will be too difficult knowing the knowledgable types that frequent Armorama... :-)
It was difficult to get the photo's in the first place... he's not inclined to discuss the war, which I totally respect.
One of the photo's is actually on a wall of the Australian War Memorial......
How would I go about posting them ?
Cheers

Hi Peter
I'll let someone else answer the question but, as regards the photos, if you can get scans and send them either to the Support Center or directly to me at
[email protected] I'll upload them into the resource area to keep them permanently without tying up your personal webspace. If you can also include more details about your uncle and his unit, I'll add that along with the photos.
All the best

It looks like a B-24J. But surely a B-24. (Unless Australia had B-32s)

Let's see if it works. Checking properties is cheating!
So, what is the airplane? I wonder if it is easy for you.

Hi Gábor
I know so little about modern jets, I could guess forever without much hope of getting this one! :-)
For me it'll be a question of typing names at random into Google in the hope of matching the instrument panel...

Hi Gŕbor!
I must confess I'm like Rowan and I don't know much about modern jets... but I'm also very curious and I opened the picture in another window revealing the URL with the plane's name... so I'm afraid I'm out of the game!

But for the others who play within the rules, I'll say it's a Soviet plane!

Hi Jean-Luc
Interesting! I wouldn't have guessed that, because I thought modern Soviet / Russian a/c had pale blue interiors. I'll do some hunting!

Hi there
It doesn't look like the standard MiG 23 cockpit shown
here, but it does look like a previous generation aircraft with a modern avionics refit. I think I'm stuck. :-)

How about a Mig-15 or one of the export variants?
