Hi Gang

some comments (I am not sure whether all were solved as i did not read all comments with full concentration)

1. I got my Fw 190 A-4/F-1 Tunesia -- whooohooo ... but it is the same as the regular A-4 (doh ... I hoped for some more bombs and stuff) only other decals

2. get rid of those wing mounted guns on that Bf 109 .. only the Es and some test a/c (including one of Gallands personal Fs ) had those

3. Zvezda has some cooperation agreements with firms as Revell or Italeri .. they get stuff from them to sell on the Russian market (and vice versa) .. of course the companies would not like Zvezda sell it across Europe ....

that's all for now

best wishes

Steffen

Great, I am looking forward to see it. I just bought the Eduard FW190 A5. I kind of regret I did not buy the A8. I have many extra decal options for the A8 in my Kagero books.

@Emeritus and Steffen: I checked my references yesterday (Mainly Kagero "Bf 109 G/K" vol. I, II, III.) and took of the guns. As Steffen writes the guns were only used on previous versions and some very early Gustavs. I have removed them and the 109 is now a "true" G6 as far as I can tell from my references. Thanks for the help. To bad to find out when the plane is done.

Hi everyone
Here is my finished Stuka for this campaign. It is the Hasegawa Ju87R-2 in 1/48 scale. Paints were a mixture of MM enamel and Tamiya acrylic. The kit decals were used and 4-50kg bombs were submitted in place of the drop tanks on the wing pylons and she also wears a 500kg bomb under the fuselage. This was a great kit and unlike some of the Hasegawa kits I've built in the past, this one practically fell together with very little filling and sanding. This was my first German plane and I'm anxious to add a few more to my collection soon!

Thanks for looking, and sorry about the poor quality of the pictures.

I'm haveing a blast building these models and I find that my skills are improving with each new kit finished.

Hi Hermon!

Wow! You are quite right! That's a fantastic looking "Stuka". Any chance you can send us larger pictures for an On display?

Great kit, Hermon! It looks very good. I agree with Jean-Luc that it is definently worthy of its own display post.

Thanks for participating and congratulations on the great result!

Great job Hermon,

I have nothing more to add, other than to be careful as my Airacobra is started and will be looking for Stuka meat soon.

Jean-Luc,
I would be honored to submit photos for an "On Display" but my camera is a piece of garbage and the bigger the pictures are, the more fuzzy and distorted they turn out.

Thanks for the kind words anyways guys. It really makes me feel great that others like my efforts.

Derek,
After spending 3 hours taping and cutting and painting to get that canopy to look right, I'm just about half tempted to fly her into the ground before you can get a shot. :-)

Update on my build... After spending all day in the spray bay masking and painting the Thunderbolt is now ready for decalling. I've painted the plane using Alclad Alumimium and Dark Aluminium for random panels. Painted the cowl and tail with Tamiya Yellow, the tip of the cowl with Tamiya Black and the anti-glare area with Tamiya olive drab. Then these parts were given several coats of clear to give a gloss base for the decals.

This is with the NMF before masking

And this is after all the masking and spraying.

Hi Jesper

One question: is this campaign about tank busting or ground attack ? I am not sure if my Fw 190 F-1 would fit in the tank hunter role...

best wishes

Steffen

It is about tank busting down low. This basicly means that your aircraft has to fulfill two purposes:

A) Be used down low - that is clearly the case with the FW 190.

B) Have weapons that can take out tanks i.e. bombs, rockets, 30mm+ cannons etc.
I do not know if you have any bomb(s) on your FW 190. A FW 190 with a bomb would fill the requirements nicely. I think the panzerblitz rockets were developed later and not available for the Africa campaign. But that is just from memory.

Hope that you are planning on adding at least one bomb to your FW?

Hi Jesper

o.k. so it is a tank busting campaign .. my Fw 190 F-1 is the first official fighter bomber variant of the Fw 190. It is basically a Fw 190 A-4 without outboard guns but with a bomb rack. SKG 10 mostly used the heavy stuff in Africa, so I'll give it a 250 or 500 kg bomb .... is that valid?

cheers

Hi All!

Wow, there´s so many great builds on this campaign.

@Allen; That P-47 looks really good!
I had some troubles with my Ki-61 "Tony", but you seem to have tamed the NMF monster!
Good job, can´t wait to see it finished!

@Hermon; Your Ju-87 really looks great!
I had that kit (Ju-87G) in mind for this campaign, but as I already had three big scale campaign builds (F-14, Vietnam and Chopper) so i went for the 1/48 Hs-129 instead.
But your build have made mine to the "must-build soon" pile!
I only hope it will be as good as yours!

My Hs-129 is beginning to take shape now;

Cockpit done;

...and suddenly a aircraft appeared;

Needless to say, but this kit went together like a charm!
As you can see, very little filler was needed on this one.

Engines;

Masked and white areas painted;

Next step is to mask off the white areas and paint the desert cammo!

Until then....

Cheers!

That would be perfect and definently qualifies.

I read about a German FW 190 pilot on the Eastern front in 1944 in the Kagero "FW 190 vol. I or III". The went down really low approx. 10 meters above the ground and flew directly towards the target tank. In the split second where the tank disappeared under the cowling and out of view of the pilot the bomb was dropped. The bomb would then either hit the tank directly or skidded along the ground and hit the tank on the side. Anyway if it is 250 or 500 kg bombs a near miss should be enough

Looking forward to see your FW 190 take to the sky

Hi Stefan

Great bird you are doing there. Nice to hear it goes together well. I cannot wait to get started on mine.

Looking forward to see you doing the desert camouflage. Are you going for the sand with green blotches camouflage or the "small wavy sand stripes all over the aircraft" camouflage?

Hi Jesper!

I will go for the RLM 79 Sand with RLM 80 Green blotches over RLM 65 (or would 78 be better?) Light blue underside.

This is one of my favourite schemes so the decision was easy!
I love ANY desert scheme!

Actually, I bought this Revell-rebox only to get the desert markings! :-)

I had to do some "seam-adjustments" , so I have to repaint the white on the nose and rear fuselage and the alerions (wich I forgot last time! ).

Yes, It´s a really gem of a kit and fun to build, too.

Cheers!

Here is my first finished entry for the tank busting down low campaign. Zvezdas 1/72 Bf 109 G6 with 500 kg bomb.

It was a small project to try some new techniques as I am normally an armour modeller. The "sprayed" patterns were done with brush as my airbrush is still not in order. In 1/72 it worked out okay.

Washes for panel lines did not work out as I wanted it. I used Tamiya smoke thinned with Tamiya thinner, but it would not flow along the lines.

It tried to give it a worn look, but might have overdone it as the plane looks pretty dusty now - just like a lightly used tank should look :-) :-) I will take that down a notch on my next entry for this campaign - the 1/48 Hasegawa Hs-129 B2.
