Hi everybody!

We are "Go" for a Pacific WWII campaign. This will be the official tread for the campaign. Below I have posted the operational overview, rules and regulations. Hope we will all have an enjoyable and fun campaign!!

Operational Overview
The Japanese expansion into China in 1937 followed numerous smaller clashes and signalled the start of the Japanese expansion that would eventually lead to all out war in East Asia. War quickly spread throughout East Asia and eventually involved several major powers of WWII. This period includes major battles such as Pearl Harbour and Midway, but also smaller battles such as the sinking of Repulse and Prince of Wales.

The Rules and Regs
This campaign covers all aircraft that participated in air battles in East Asian in World War II including the initial expansionist wars that led to a full scale conflict. This means that the Sino-Japanese Conflict and the clashes between Soviet and Japan from 1931 to 1945 are also covered by this campaign. Any sea battles including aircraft from aircraft carriers are also included. So pick your entry. The possibilities are endless from the Sino-Japanese conflict to Pearl Harbour to Midway to Leyte Gulf to Okinawa to Manchuria to Enola Gay.

Here are some examples of planes that would fit into this campaign:
Ki - 46 Dinah
Ki - 61 Tony
Ki - 84 Frank
Shinden J7W1
A6M2 Zero
B25 Mitchell
P 40 Kittyhawk
Brewster Buffalo
TBF-1 Avenger
F4 Corsair
SBD 3 Dauntless
P 39 Airacobra
P 47 Razorback

But remember all should be in camouflage and markings from the East Asian battlefields.

There are many more airplanes that qualify than the above examples. If you have any doubts, just ask.

Dioramas and figures are welcome. All scales are fine.

Nice one Jesper!

Time permitting, I'll try to join in - but I'll learn my lesson from Tankbusters and this time I won't commit until until I'm sure I have a realistic chance of building something suitable.

All the best

Hi Jesper

I intend to join with two Type 95 fighters and maybe some other stuff rotting in my stash .... we'll see.

Hopefully happy modelling

cheers

Steffen
P.S. maybe you could extend the timeframe to 1931, so some of the newer AZ models (and others)

Nakajima NC
Breda 27M ...

could be used

The Mukden incident was in 1931 and IMO part of the 2nd Sino Japanese war ... the city of Mukden is today Shengyang (with an a/c manufacturer of the same name )

If anybody has any questions or already knows what they are going to enter they are welcome to start posting in the official tread already. Just remember not to start your builds before the campaign officially starts

I have several planes I want to build for this campaign. However, so far only one in my stash. The Eduard Profipack KI-115 will be my first plane in this campaign.

The KI-115 was a dedicated suicide plane produced as cheap as possible. It should only fly one way on its first operational sortie Production plans were for several thousand planes to be produced for use against the US invasion fleet , but only roughly 200 planes were produced before the atomic bomb ended the war. No planes were ever used operationally although limited training had begun.

Good to have you onboard, Steffen If your fighters are anything close to the level of your great FW 190 it will be very nice entry into the campaign.

I have increased the timeframe to 1931 to include the incidents leading up to the Sino-Japanese war.

@Rowan: hope you will find the time to build something suitable for the campaign. I will be looking out for that late entry into the campaign

I have several Japanese aircraft that will fit this campaign. It would even give me the excuse to start the "Grace" that I never got round too.

I'm aboard too.
Looking at my stash, I got AM's 1:48 avenger and special hobby's 1:72 B-339, which should both make good entries.

Todd, Rob and Eetu, great to have you in the campaign

Now we are a bunch of guys ready to start the rumble in the East Asian Sky - and we have not even started the campaign.
:-)--<

@Todd: I am looking forward to see the 1/32 Corsair. It will be a nice beast to have on display

@Eetu: have you decided on the nationality of B-339? As I understand it was both used by the British and the Dutch.

Most likely British, since the kit comes with two options for that and special hobby's decals have been top-notch.

Jesper,

Count me in as well. I have no idea what I'll put together yet though. I still need to build something for the "Guardian Angel" campaign that I jumped into! Such a problem!

Pacific Region Buffalo's, flown withs RAF Markings, are some British Sqn's, Australian and New Zealand Squadrons, the boxart of theTamiya 'Re-issued Pacific Theatre' with he dragon artwork is a New Zealand Squadron.

Some Dutch Buffalo's carried the Orange Black triangle insignia [at first], to reduce confusion with the Japanese hinamaru, this was changed to the tri colour of their national flag.
Dutch squadron' also flew the B25c/d Mitchell's, P40e's and later P 51 Mustangs.

Hope this helps.

I got my own campaign starting up soon on Armorama, and I know I am going to regret this, but count me in with a 1/48 B-25. I will go click myself in.

Count me in, too. Can't decide what to build yet, I have several P-40's or a Shinden that I believe would qualify.

@Derek: Rob is working on a list of planes and nations that participated in the Pacific, so there you will probably be able to find some inspiration for what to enter into the campaign. Great to have a "local" expert like Rob supporting the campaign.
Regarding time you will have quite some time before this campaign starts, so hopefully it will not be a problem, although it almost always is. So many great models to build, so little time.....

@Carl: Good to hear you are joining the campaign. It will be great to see a B-25 in 1/48 scale. It is going to be awesome for sure...

@Tony: both the Shinden and the P-40s can be entered into this campaign. Just remember that the painting and markings on the P-40s should be for the Pacific war.

All you guys: welcome onboard! Great to have you all onboard and I am sure we will have a great campaign when we start in August

Hi All!

I have already enlisted for this Campaign!

My first choice is the Trumpeter SBD-5 Dauntless in 1/32 scale, but I have already done some minor assembly on this kit.

Started early last year before the build "stalled", mostly due to lack of building time because I signed on for other Campaigns here.

Not much done yet really, and no painting either, can I submit this kit?

Otherwise I´ll go for a 1/48 Hasegawa P-40E from the Aleutians, and build the SDB in parallell.

Looking forward to an Interesting Campaign!

Cheers!

Hi Stefan

Good to have you onboard!

As it is only minor assembly that has been done with no painting at all I will allow it as an entry into the campaign.

However, do not let that stop you from entering both planes into the campaign

I MIGHT have a suprise up my sleeve, though....

Cheers!

Cool campaign idea.
I have an Italeri P47-N in my stash which I believe would qualify for this.
Its not a patch on the Tamiya offerings, but its the best "N" available in 1:72 I believe.
I wonder how many campaigns I can build P47's for?
