Great idea for the ribbon!

Having made some ribbons myself I think this one will be too small for that many details. Also remember that the ribbon can only be 1 kb. This will blur the details even further.

Maybe something like this:

The five bars could be exchanged with stars, crosses, victory bars (German Style) or something else.

My model has arrived ready for the Aces build in April......Opened the box and it looks like quite a basic kit, so hopefully no problems for me Nige has warned me that the decals might be a little 'dodgy', so we will see when the time comes........................

Much better with the text. Although I would still change the US insignia with the wings to just the US star on blue background. It is very difficult to make out the US insignia as it is now.
Also maximize the text as much as possible.

I don't think i'd be able to read the text if I hadn't seen it larger first or had the context.

I'd go with a simpler design. Nothing wrong with that one, it just doesn't stay readable because of the drastic resizing needed.
The five-bars design is nice & simple but perhaps it could be little more graphical. Perhaps lose the text and put in a few plane silhuette kill markings?

I was going to do Wicks E-4 but we don't need a bunch of those so I'll find something else I did the E-4 in 48th and used a sponge cut in half for the dappling on the sides and it turned out fine ( wife didn't see the humor in the missing sponge) I might use Roden's 32nd Alb D111 in red, I have a picture of Wick's plane in my photo gallery but I haven't got around to figuring out how to post it yet.

So with 2 weeks to go before the start of Aces High we are all ready to go.
36 people have signed up and we have, courtesy of Vance, the campaign ribbon on the main page to entice even more entrys and await the finished Aces.
All we need now is April 1st

Vanize: Nice touch to the ribbon. It shows what it's about, but isn't messy. Me Like!

Nigel: Yes, I'm waiting for april first, but unfortunately I'm stepping into my uniform for a two week training exercise on the seventh, so I'm hit by Murphy. I hope it's a 6 month campaign as usual...

Everybody else: Let the roundels and stars-n-bars have it! Fill the place with 109's and butcher birds

Thanks for the positive feedback on the ribbon everyone.

Anyway, I am coming close to deciding that I am almost certainly going to do Butch O'Hare's F4F-3 (if I don't decide on something else between now and when I start it).

Ok, I am going to try for the impossible - at least the impossible for me.

I am going to try and get an entire kit done in 14 days. It'll be a Spitfire Mk. I ace (already have the kit and tons of decal choices). I am going to start on the 1st and finish by a friends birthday, which is the 15th. The model is a birthday gift (he's a HUGE spitfire fan).

Wish me luck!

Excellent choice, Vance. Hope you will succeed so you can give your friend the Spitfire as a gift.

Looking forward to follow your build in this tread.

First time I've done one of these so treat me gently. I had two kits both Eduard 1/48 Weekend edition, think I'll probably do the Nieuport 16 of Adjutant Maxime Lenoir (11 victories KIA 25/10/16). Kit looks nice but I know the engine needs modifying

Greetings,

My entry La-5FN flown by Captain Vitalii Ivanovich Popkov from 5 GIAP fall 1944.

I'll use Zvezda's 1/48 La-5FN kit OOB.

Nigel, previously you accepted that I use a started La-7 for this campaign.
Please disregard it and consider the La-5FN as my official entry.
Thanks.

Guys I'm looking forward to see your models.
All the best.

Jean
