Hi all,

I got these two yesterday...

One thing to note is that Zvezda have reworked one sprue to improved the look of the cylinders by adding cooling fins...

If you want to buy a La-5 from Zvezda, take a look in the box first because in both kits Rowan has reviewed (La-5 FN and La-5), the cooling fins were missing...

After so many posts about items dragged home from an LHS, this was actually brought by the postman!
The package even fit in the mailbox. Now need to go to the postal office to pick up.

Hi again

I know - I promised not to buy anything else! But I couldn't resist these beauties when I spotted them at Model Hobbies!:

I've wanted the Leopard Moth for ages, but always seemed to miss when it was in stock. Of course, Model Hobbies' usual handy discount made the decision to grab it now that much easier. I'll get cracking on Reviews of these before what should prove to be a very exciting wave of samples arrive...

Hey Terri. I really would like to see you build that Corsair. I'm sure you'd do a great job on it. Russell

P.S. It's been my experience that those 72 scale Tamiya kits are really good! The decals are good too! Much better than Academy. At least the older Academy. I'm told that there is a new decal manufacturer in town to do the Academy kits, hopefully that'll improve them quite a bit. At least to be useable! Ha ha

Hi again

It's really jaw on the floor time this morning! Postie has just delivered a quite stunning set of Review items from The Airbrush Company Ltd.!:

An Iwata TR-0 Airbrush with accessories, a LifeColor Tensocrom Weathering set, and a selection of Lion Roar etched cockpit details.

Something tells me it's going to be a busy week at the Review-Desk!

All the best

Hi Andy

The Liquid Reamer is Xylene-based airbrush cleaner. It should shift even dried-on enamels or acryics equally well - not that I intend ever letting the TR-0 get into that state!

Thanks Rowan, I think I might have to pick some of that up, bet its a lot cheaper then an ultasonic cleaner.

Hi Andy

Ahh - but an ultrasonic cleaner can do a lot more besides clean airbrushes. I've been testing mine on old canopies and other kit parts that I wouldn't want to let anywhere near Xylene.

Hi Andy

I would not bet on that! I bought mine for under 30 Euro and i can always use it while the spray might last some sessions and you will have to rebuy it .. but suum cuique.

Hi All

Got these two today.

The A-4 is the Sword kit (issued by Classic Airframes), lots of nice resin, no PE, which is especially sad for the dash boards. I have a question for all you Kiwis out there. Should the Kiwi on the a/c always look forward? I thought so, but the right fuselage birdie is looking backwards?!

The Pitts special is also nice, but no German markings .. While searching I found the S2A that I will have build one day: D-ELYNN "The Spunky Mistress"

Hi Steffen

Neat! I'd definitely be keen to see what the Pitts is like - I've been tempted to get one myself.

Hi Rowan

Well, the Special is surely more short run than the Scooter, but it has better instructions. You have to add a lot of strip styrene and some rigging too.

While I was not too enthiusiastic when I was told I would get the kits (both, I am rather keen on the Ki48, despite certain posts here) now I think I will give them a try. I think it will be the Kiwi Scooter and the blue Special .. except I can get another canopy and some decals for "the Mistress"

cheers

I'll probably go for Planet Models' Hughes Racer or D.H. Leopard Moth if the civil aircraft campaign gets the green light, but a Pitts is certainly tempting.

Hi Terri

I'm not jealous, not jealous at all! In this country the postman would leave a note saying that need to go and pay a customs charge before we can pick the Wingnuts beauty up!

Hi again

Well, Postie just called and left a stunning parcel! Courtesy of HobbyLink Japan the wait is over!:

Now to get a up of coffee and start drooling! Next step - an In-Box Review and then clear the workbench ready to get stuck into building this stunner!

Well I do not get the hype about this 1/32 scale . .

Who has a sooo large accomodation that he/she even houses the stash not to speak of all the finished models .. well, that won't bother Rowan of course...

Terri, Rowan, I congratulate you to your newest acquisitions! For me it is not interesting in the slightest way (even if I acknowledge that the Spit is probably the finest (main stream) model kit to date) ...

Speaking of size:

and this shot makes it look large! It maybe has ½ to 2/3 the span of the Fokker and is considerably shorter! my smallest model since decades ...

all the best

Steffen

Yes it is and it is really small .. wonder how some people build in 1/144 scale --- not speaking of airliners, but WW2 fighters and stuff such like this

cheers
