I did mine in RLM 02. But remember it is an engine compartment. It will get fuel and oil in it, as well as dirt, gunpowder, dust, and general grunge. And all this will be subjected to engine heat.

Nice Dora, Mike. It looks really good. Looking forward to see it with the finishing touches, although it looks good as it is.

Just started mine a couple of nights ago. Tamiya R8 Ramjager. Sill debating what scheme I will paint it in. Pics to follow soon. With the warm weather moving in, it is going to be difficult to stay indoors and build rather than enjoy the sun and do a little yard work, but I'm sure I'll manage. "Q"

Well I got some paint on mine. Not a lot mind you, but it is a start. RLM76 shot on the bottom, rear of fuselage, and tail section. Insignia red on the nose, although I might end up reshooting that as it doesn't look right to my eye. Anyway, here she is thus far.
Thanks, "Q"

A little more progress on my 190. Got the camo colors laid in, white tail band, and the remainder of the lower cowl painted this morning. Just shot the gloss coat on it in preparation for the decals. Hopefully I will be able to get those started today before I head off to work. Thanks, "Q"

Well, some progress and a little set back. As you can see the red on the nose does not match the red on the decals, as they did when I tested for a color match before applying them. All is not lost though as I plan on maskng around the decal and shooting the same color red to match everthing up. It'll just be a tricky masking job soas not to peel up my decals. Other than that, the build is moving along fine. I'll let the decals set for the remainder of the day and then begin my masking. More to follow. Thanks, "Q"

Well, The masking went well. The masking removal had a couple small glitches but came off pretty well. A small section on the starboad side tore loose. I was able to remove it from the tape and reapply the decal. It went back on seamlessly. Once gloss coated (Which I just shot, hence the textured look to it) it should blend in much better with the paint that is already on the cowling. Hoping to continue soon. Thanks, "Q"

Thanks for the kudos Taylor. The color is suposed to be closer to maroon than red. I did a test on the decals to determine what color I needed and when all was said and done, insignia red was an almost perfect match. However, when I put the decal on, it was noticably different in color as you can see by the early pictures, which forced me to mask and paint over the decals. The decals are from an Aeromaster sheet and there are several colorful bird on it. I chose this one as it was the most colorful of the group. I was able to get the yellow borders on before I left for work this afternoon, so pics of those are forthcoming. Thanks again for the kudos. Much appreciated.

And yet more progress... Got my yellow trim pieces applied to the fuselage sides, and cowling. Also got the fuselage number and crosses on. Everything is drying at this point. I'm liking it. Hope to have it complete in the coming days. Thanks, "Q"

Wow, Terri, it looks really nice!!!
now just get it finished without ruining it (e.g. i am at my Schlächter again to add some theatre markings )
Matthew your bird looks also very nice but I am having a hard time not to comment on the red markings ... I try to remember that it is all about fun
And @ Taylor: also very nice progress on your Dora!
all the best

Gee Steffen , thanks for the kind words , far from the level of what you guy's do . Last WW2 kit I built was around 1999 of a P51D by Tamiya . I will try and not to wreck it !
Thanks Taylor and Matthew , glad you are enjoying the build .

Hi all
really you are doing a beautiful job on your models!!!
@Terri: I just noticed a small glitch: check the leading edge of your wing .... you should have used some putty .. but anyway your model is really nice!
@Matthew: Well, I do not want to ruin your day, but the red stuff is totally bogus (from a historical point of view). There was done a profile once (IIRC by Mr. Crandall, but I am not sure .. at least he has posted several times at HS that the red nose is fiction) and Trimaster took it for real and included these markings in their Sturmjäger kit ... a myth was born ... and is almost impossible to kill, because it looks really sharp...

Never said it was historically accurate. Simply stated I decided to build it based on the decals I found for the subject.

Despite the dubious realism of the red markngs, really nice work all round!
The red trimming indeed looks sharp.
Btw, was the whole idea of a colored nose bogus, or just the color of it?
I was just thinking about the possibility of incorrectly interpreted B&W photos.
