Some really great builds so far. Carl, that is a stunning DVII. Chris your Jug really is off to a great start.

Tuomas: I am building an Albatros as well. Is yours the Roden kit? If so, is there anything I need to watch out for?

Very nice Tornado, Lewis. The Tiger stripes look excellent.

Very cool Fokker, Carl. A very colourful "camouflage" with nice stripes on the tail.

Fred, you are doing a really nice job on the camouflage. I have to do the same camouflage scheme on a Bloch 174 for the French campaign. Looking forward to see more.

Tuomas, Very cool build. The big tan area on the wing is repaired combat damage? Did you use stretched sprue and super glue for the rigging?

Hi Jesper,
Yes, I think that tan area is some sort of unpainted canvas placed to replace broken part.

I used 0.16 mm fishing line and superglue for the rigging. I first drilled holes in both wings, put the fishing line in place with tape and dropped superglue in hole. (let the superglue dry enough!). When dry, I cut the excess fishing line from top and bottom of the wings and some filler & sanding. I painted the riggins and then tightened them by heating with my moms hairdryer.

Hi Tuomas , great job on the Albatros . The stripes turned out really well !
Rigging looks good to , just a note though . The rigging inboard next to the fuselage bottom the two lines from the top center struts and the two lines from the top of the outer struts should be closer inwards so they almost touch the fuselage . Top of the cylinders and rockers should be black . It's a beautiful build you did a great job on her ! Was it hand painted ?

Yes the tan patch was from battle damage using CDL fabric .

Taylor , Roden doesn't have a Albatros in 48 scale only in 72 or 32 scale . I have both kits in 32 scale and there is some fit issues with it in the lower wing to fuselage . Careful test fitting and there shouldn't be any real problems . In 72 scale I don't have the kit so no comments on that one .

Wow Terri. You said before that you don't know anything of engine thingys, and now you namedrop the rocker gallery.

Nice Albatross Tuomas. I just love repaired aircraft with a patchy look.

I finally got stripes on my 199 now, and have started the weathering process. I might have been a bit too eager around the fuel filler hatches, but I will give it some time to set in my mind before I decide whether to change it.

Here we have both stars and stripes. Some streaks over the wing chords too, maybe a bit overdone here too, but a final dusty wash might put that in perspective.

I'm not ready with the panel lines yet, and I will work some more with the exhaust streaks, but your method seems safer than oils Terri. Thanks for the tip!

Some excellent building going on guys and girls. I love the DIII *of course* this profile is one of the A/C I want to build sometime.

I have my SE5A pretty far along but have hit a real snag, somehow I managed to get the engine slightly out of line...it explains the difficulty getting the fairings to fit but I never twigged till coming to fit the exhausts....I may have to break her open and do some surgery to rectify

Tony , nice paint work ! You nailed it on the colour mixing and a nice stripe tail to finish her off !

Keith , that is a real bummer . Are you feeling okay ? Do we need to send over a medical team for yah ? No worries though , still looking forward on seeing some pic's when you are over this slight mis-hap .

I'm really looking forward to getting my build out of the box and getting her built ! Will finally be able to start once I get all moved in .

Ein bischen mehr Fortschritt ! (a little more progress)

After struggling with poor quality decals (even Tamiya decals aren't "all that") I'm really pleased with just how good a quality sheet can be to work with. CA kits have their compromises but this kit came with a first rate Mircoscale sheet. I only put a prep coating of decal solution on the plane and the decals are so thin that they snug right up (even without a finishing application of decal solution. A real treat!

Looks great so far, Fred. Sometimes one just gets lucky with the decals.

I have finished my Fw 190A8 for this campaign. The build was quick and the painting was problem free although I am still not satisfied with the colours. I tried to adapt the colours I used for my previous FW 190, but the colours are still not right. I think I will simply buy a brand new set of colours instead of mixing the old ones with new paint. I know the Lifecolour Luftwaffe camouflage set II is in stock in my LHS, so maybe that is a solution.

Despite being very careful about fixing the headrest to the inside of the cockpit there are still a bit of glue visible. If I build a Tamiya Fw 190 again I think I will use white glue for this or maybe no glue at all as the fix at the back of the cockpit is probably enough to keep it in place.

Anyway, it was a joy to build and I am still quite satisfied overall with this build and have a good satisfied feeling looking at this finished Wurger.

I finished it as Blue 4 from JG 5 Eismeer, Herdla Airfield in Norway 1945. I used the decals from the Eduard set I had in my stash.

I will probably try to finish a Fokker D.VII for this campaign as well if time permits. It is a good excuse to go crazy with stripes.
I noticed that I am the first one to upload a picture in the gallery despite quite a few people has finished builds for this campaign. Remember to upload photos to the gallery otherwise Terri will have a tough time awarding ribbons. I know, I have been there

Comments welcome

Jesper,

That's a really nice looking bird. I have to ask. Did you use RLM 65 for the underside or does the photo just make it look that way?

Cheers,
Fred

Good place to smile, Keith. Both kites look great.

Jesper, your Fw looks the thing too. I don't know what it's about, but I like LW planes with numbers in stead of chevrons and stuff. Might be my own low rank that spooks me.

My Avia S-199 is finally finished. I lost pace a bit in the end but she turned out rather well. Not the most stripes around, but not the least either.

I gave my old trusty pencil a go at the panel lines on this. (Yes I'm so old I started engineering on a plank, before even AutoCad) It kind of worked out good.

Since I just love cockpits I have to say I'm not at all disappointed with this one.

I haven't decided on the canopy yet, so I'll leave it loose until I know if it should be open or shut. I made a go at q-tipping exhaust stains of lead too, and that was a lot easier to moderate than oils.

So, another 109-thingy off to the shelf, but many more to go.

Thanks for all the nice comments, guys and girls! I really appreciate it

Fred, I used a home mixture of Tamiya paints to hit the RLM 76 tone. It is probably closer to RLM 65 than RLM 76 as you point out. Although it looks a bit more blue in the picture than real life, but the colour has too much blue in it for sure.
I discovered the paint mix was not right making my last Fw 190. I tried to fix the paint mix by mixing in more light grey, but it did not solve the problem completely. That is why I am considering to buy a premixed range for the RLM colours. Then I can blame somebody else if the colours are of.

Keith, nice progress. The stripes and the Lozenge camouflage look very good.

Tony, excellent Mule! I think you captured the look of the faded paint work spot on. A very nice S-199 for the collection. This version should be in any 109 collection.

Keith , what can say about this one ....................Oh yeah ! Great job done on her . This will be one fine looking SE5a once the final touchs are completed .

Tony , you pulled this build off beautifully ! The colours are great and same with the weathering . I'm already looking forward to your next 109 project !
