I have a question... Does a stripe on the tail, or stripes on the things it carries, qualify?

Stripes on the aircraft itself is fine . Can be the rudder or wings even fuselage . But not weapons or anything stored on / under the aircraft .
What did you have in mind there Warren ? I', pretty flexible just have to tallk real nice to me !

Looks sweet JP for so small a scale. One thing though, the teardrop shapes on the undercarriage were pressed metal shells so would likely be the colour of the cross member and not wood, but she is coming on nicely.
Keith
I have some pics of my latest effort and hope to post tonight when My wife isnt turning the screws on me...LOL...... So think D VII think B&W stripes I'm sure you can guess.

well heres what I bin upto so far
One of old Bruno's steeds,,, Terri said stripes so stripes it is wonder if any other pilot has two or more aircraft featured in this campaign?
the fuselage, surprisingly it sprayed well with very few creeps under the tape, more hamfisted damage than anything else LOL
the black is lightened witha little mid grey enough so as a black wash will pick out details....much weathering to be done and torn linen to be added, not yet sure what method to use but I am going yto have the wing varnished and sealed before I start...lol
Yes there is no interir to the cockpit, as a variation it will be covered witha tarp as if sitting waiting repair and covered to prevent the ingress of rain...thats my story anyway, I'm building three DVII's, one a revisited failed effort, one a detailed and one *this one was a quick easy build catching up and overtaking the others.

And now for something completely different!
Here is one of my entries for this lovely campaign. The difference is I am not going to reveal what the kit is.. I am going to let you guys and gals guess what it is!
Here is the first picture of the mystery craft.. and what a dog it is unfortunately. Fit is very 'approximate'.. It is more like a limited run kit than a long term kit.
I am sure someone will get it fairly quickly...

Okay, here I am with my "Stripes" entry, and a small confession. I really had my heart set on doing a WWI bi-plane for this Campaign...I've never really tried to do one before, and thought this would be the time...I confess, ... I chickened out. The kit is purchased, I just didn't have the heart to ruin it yet. I promise though, it will get built ... just have to get the ol' confidence level up a few notches. Instead, I settled on this little beauty:
WAIT ! ... WHAT? ...this is the "Stripes" campaign you say ... the "Checkerboard" campaign doesn't start for three months yet? ... oh-oh ...
Just kidding - although I am planning on building this scheme for the CheckerBoard Campaign, this 1/72 scale Academy kit comes with two schemes, and the second was right on target.
I really love these Academy 1/72 scale kits. I think they are excellent value for the money, and in more skilled hands than mine, can be built up into beautiful models. There were absolutely no fit problems with this kit. It is very well engineered. It is, however, an Academey kit, which means it comes with Academy decals, and well, we know about them. The tail and stabilizer stripe decals were very thick, and over-sized. I used an awful lot of Micro-Sol on them, but they never really sat down like I would have liked. And, they needed careful trimming when dried. The Stars and Bars were the same way, thick - but seemed in register. I do have to say, the small decals and nose art blended in to the NMF nicely, the very small carrier film disappearing when dry.
So, Stripes Campaign completed, Terri. If you like this model, you WILL see it again, as I have another, and plan the "Eileen" scheme for the CheckerBoard campaign to come.
Sorry for the somewhat dark pics - stormy day in the Chicago area today, so I had to take them at my workbench, which has the best light in the house .
Cheers,
Mike

Thanks, Terri. My NMF of choice is Model Master Aluminum (non-buffing), but I have to admit, I'm experimenting. I'd like to do some variations of medium, to differentiate panel sections. Like the Bi-planes, it's on my "to-do" list.

Mike

OK. Enough of the mystery stuff. Anybody who has had the 'pleasure' of building this kit will know which one it is very quickly.. but for all the wrong reason..
Fit can best be described as approximate. Building is further frustrated by the parts not being on the trees in any logical order.. Just scattered to the four winds across five sprues.
Oh well.. At least there will be stripes..
Clamp city!

Pleasure indeed... Maybe if the sprues hadn't warped heaps before I started to build the plane I would have been OK.. But the nose of this puppy is so off the right line it is possibly impossible to rectify. I get the nose straight and then the wings are way out of kilter.. ARGH!!
But fear not gentle reader I will perserver to allow me two entries in this Group Build..
... if I don't stomp on it first...

**** I'm gonna say that looks suspiciously like a Hawker Tempest (possibly a MkV).
I do confess that the leading edge of the vertical stabilizer looks suspect it it is, however. Unfortunately (for my guess) you just added another pic. The landing gear bays look like something for a Supermarine Seafire. The only thing I'm confident is that it is British and either late war or post war.
Cheers,
Fred

Nah,
The tail end of the fuse on those tapers very elegantly into a point. The vertical stabilizer on those is much smaller too.
It has to be a 'bubble top' whatever it is and it has to have some fold down access door at the cockpit.

Fred

Very observant Fred.
Not quite on the right track Andrew, except that it is a single seater.
Keep guessing guys and gals.
Here is another clue... it was first released in the 1970s...

Well I'm making a small bit of progress on my entry. With only a few minutes here and there each week to get any free time I probably should have picked an easier decal scheme but ........
Just to prove that I'm actually working on her, here she is.
WIth any luck I'll be done by 2012.

Hey guys and girls....
I've made some progress on my multiple entry for the campaign. I've got one Hawker Hurricane and a FM-2 Wildcat. I've taken pictures of my progress and will post them as soon as I can get the pics downloaded. Sure is a b*% trying to freehand a camo scheme on a 1/144 scale kit....

Thanks Terri.
Here is another update. These friggin' stripes are driving me crazy. The first couple were pretty cool but at this point my eyes are bleeding.
Penny, freehanding camo on a 1/144 scale? I'll send ya my glasses soon as I finish my stripes.

looks totally bad-ass, VonCuda!
a simpler decal scheme would have been a letdown after seeing that.

Hermon - that is an AWESOME scheme, and it's coming out GREAT! That Tiger on the Tail is too cool for words. Great job, man.
Penny - Decals on a 1/144 scale plane is hard enough...you're free-handing a scheme? I don't know how you're going to do it, but I can't wait to see it. I know it's going to be good.
Terri - You know, I had the same experience the last time I used Eduard Masks, for a canopy. I thought I had done something wrong. I, too, am now a firm believer in Tamiya Tape only...more work, for sure, but I've never been disappointed by it.
Cheers,
Mike
