I'm spoiled for choices here .

I'm leaning towards a '43 109. (G2 or G6 with white Defense of the Reich bands). Gotta Verlinden super detail set that I just gotta use this year.

...on the other hand I wouldn't mind another Friedrich (and maybe trying to scratch build the engine compartment)

...or maybe that Swiss Emil.

Bah, I'm going to have to decide on something!

Cheers,
Fred

I almost jumped the gun. I thought it was March 1st and got the plastic out and washed it. Now it is safely back in the box for another 16 days.

Way to keep it honest, Paul.

It'll be fun to start pouring back into the minutae of 109's again.

I changed my mind on the build... will do the 109E "Hahn" for the Summer 1940 campaign. Will switch to the Tamiya 1:48 Bf 109 E-4/7 TROP (E-4 configuration) for this one, if that is ok.

I'm in with a Hasegawa 1/48 G-6 with an Eduard Zoom cockpit set,I'm going to use the kit decals (red 13) and a real 109 G relic as a base.
Can't wait for this,not built a 109 for many a long year

Hi all
Just signed up [no 50], really was not intending to do this campaign, but I have just bought Trumpeters 1/32 109 E-3 from Relish Models. I have always wanted to do a Swiss version with the distinctive red and white bands.

So this is what I will be doing.

Im so excited! the postie arrived at work to deliver my little box of goodies from Squadron. I couldn't help myself and bought AeroMaster's early BoB decal set for an Emil of Jadgeschwader 51. See here: http://109lair.hobbyvista.com/multimedia/profiles/dekker/td.e1-wh8_jg51.jpg

Hi Terri. March is the BEST month to celebrate. My son turned 8 on March 5th, my wife's birthday is on March 17th, and mine is on March 30th.

Postie just delivered the Master Details resin stabilizer set for my Hasegawa 1/32 G-10, so I'm all set to go !!

I have a doubt which i hope someone can answer. I plan to build the Hasegawa 1/32 Bf109 G-14.
Now by mistake i got the Aires cockpit detail kit for a G-6 instead of the G-14. Now my question is, can i use it in the -14 without entering the Alternate History zone ???

And what was the Major difference in cockpit between the two. Thanks in advance

Cheers

Don't sweat it. The G-14 was a 'stop gap' effort to standardize all the running mods being done on various G models (basically the non-pressurized G-6) until the G-10 was up to speed production-wise.

AFAIK, with regards to cockpit variances, the only distinction you'll find over the basic G-6 and the G-14 is that the G-14 will have the Erla Haub canopy. (of course G-6s were know to get retrofits to have an Erla hood as well).

Go ahead and use the cockpit set you purchased. It should be fine.

Cheers,
Fred

BTW, if you're building a 109, this is one of the more definitive sites for enthusiasts:

I was just about to say that too. Aero Detail #5 book says pretty much the same about the G-14: a stop-gap solution bringing numerous modifications done to G-6s under a single designation. And as both new aircraft as well as refurbished G-6s were designated G-14, identifying "true" G-14s can be difficult if not impossible; the type of tail or canopy can't really be used to distinguish the type.

At the moment I got two 109 kits in my stash, and I'm having a hard time deciding which one to start building first...

The AML K-4 is a limited-run kit naturally requiring much more TLC to build, but on the other hand the G-14 I will be building as a Finnish G-6 with a whole bunch of aftermarket stuff (well, actually the AML has about the same amount right out of the box), both the nationality and the amount of AM highly increasing the probability of the build taking forever and ever.

What do you think, which one should I start with?

I would vote for the Finnish G-6 also........ have always loved the night fighter with the sharks teeth and the bat....
Just my two cents......

I may need some help deciding too at this point. (recce'd the stash this morning and I can't prioritize which one to build) So here are the choices:
Hobbycraft 109B (Condor Legion)
Hasegawa E-3 (Swiss Markings)
Hasegawa E-3 (Battle of Britain Markings)
Hasegawa E-4 (Adolf Galland)
Hasegawa F-4 (its a spare parts kit so I'd scratch build the engine bay)
Hasegawa G-2 (Gunther Rall with Verlinden update)
UM G-6 ('43/'44 White Defense of the Reich Bands)
Hobbycraft G-10 (Hungarian Markings)
Monogram G-10 (Defense of the Reich or Italian co-belligerent)
Otaki G-6

Can't choose ...

@Fred, All of them!!

But if you want my perference, since we are going to see lots of BoB and other German WW2 markings,
and since Tim is already doing a swiss one.

My vote is

1. G-10 Italian co-belligerent
2. Bertha Kondor (I'm doing a Kondor Emil to keep it company)
3. G-10 Hungarian.

Wow guy's ! we have 50 folks so far sign up for this one At first I didn't think we would get so many but this looks like we will have a lot of great markings and very colourful schemes .

Fred , why not build them all . This way you won't have to deciede on which ones to do

One more week to go and we can start our projects . It has been along time since I've done a 109 and I'm really looking forward to getting started .

However though we need a ribbon , any one care to design one ?

Bob, nice ribbon but it gets messy when scaled to small size.
