Yeah, an ink wash would be a good idea. It will probably help to separate the different shades of silver and make them more noticeable.

Thanks terry,
Excellent Idea more kit for the stash
Adding to the stash is always a warm welcome , however ; you'll have to mail them back once finished !
As soon as I have my camera back I'll post pic's of the project I will be working . my plan is to do Tamiya's P-51B in 48 scale with resin and PE sets with a new vac canopy .
Parts have been removed for clean up and thinning the plastic in the cowl area for the resin engine . More to come soon ........

Hi everyone,
Well this is my first update picture. Certainly not as detailed as Justins work ( son, you are making me look bad ), but coming along nicely. I decided not to use the Ultra Cast seat. Instead I am going to use the new pilot figure that was included in the Tamyia kit. He is one of the best plastic figures I've seen. The best thing is he even sits in the seat without major surgery
At this point all of the major construction is done. Since the plane will have O.D. upper fuselage and wings, I sprayed the entire plane in aluminium, using it as both primer and colour coat, after it cures for a few days I'll mask the bottom and spray the O.D.
So, this is it...so far

@Md72 Testors chrome silver works the best.

There's 3 metalic finishes in the picture. The struts are Tamiya Flat Al, the oleo's are Testors steel and the check stripes on the fuel tank are Testors Crome silver in the pen.
In that photo, it's hard to tell the differences.

Just a quick note if your thinking of getting the vector resin just know there is a ton of work involved I probably wont post for a little while because Ive got major fit issues going on. The resin is just entirely to thick.

What type of fit issues are you having ?
Was thinking of picking this up , but if it will be easier to scratch build just might save a lot time on the sanding .

Its a tight fit terry the resin had to be sanded down so thin i almost punched through a couple times.the top wing sections had to be sanded as thin as paper and still dosnt fit right at the roots so I have some filling, rescribing to do.I also have to redo some seamlines on the fuselage where they broke open on clamping

Glad to have joining in on the fun here Darek . Not the greatest kit in the world , but I'm looking forward to seeing how you tackle this project !

Darek, looks like a fun build. I had the Revell(?) P-51B a few years ago and the cockpit dated back to the '50's. There was a seated pilot and a set of pins in the fuselage that he sat on and that was the codkpit. This one looks like they at least tried.

Hi all,
after checking the kit I must say: It is for the trashbin, only.
I will send it back to Revell together with a kind letter
It was definitly my last kit from this producer.
Now I will look for the next kit, maybe from Academy or Tamiya.

Best of luck with that Darek. An RoG kit could be from almost anywhere, Revell / Monogram in the US, Airfix or Matchbox in the UK, Heller, Frog or even Hasegawa.
For this build I'm working on a Testors P-51D, that might be a Hawk kit that's as old as I am. My goal is to get it together as best possible and do my first real NMF in nearly 30 years.
I figure there's a lesson to be learned in every kit. Although sometimes that lesson is never buy a kit like this again.

Well Justin what are you waiting for ! We want pic's
Darek , this is why I don't pick up Revell kit's any more , or at least their older ones . They are worth the trash bin only . Will take a lot of work to get it looking half ass .
Academy kits aren't bad if it's their own mouldings . Tamiya are the best out there even Hasegawa are great . Good luck in picking a kit . Any questions just ask and the guy's will be more then willing to give a helping hand .

Justin, yea, where are the pics?
Darek & Terri, on RoG kits, do your research! I've got the RoG P2V-7 in the stash somewhere. It's the (old) Hasegawa kit; warts and all, in the RoG box for about 1/2 the price.
I really like the Academy kits, but do take care, they're not uniformly top quality.

I have the same opinion of Revell's 1:48 kits. I mean, their MiG 15 bis is possibly the worst kit I have ever built! The panel lines were raised and uneven, there was flash everywhere, the fit was terrible and when I had finished building it it looked like it was inflated like a balloon! I still can't believe I payed $40 for it in a local hobby shop
Some of their 1/72 kits look pretty decent though (their FW 190A's, P-47 and Horten Go 229 come to mind).

Justin, thanks for feeding my addiction fix. The photos are nice, I have the Revell 1/48 P-51B/C and the wings have a square hole in the bottom of both port and starboard wing. I find nothing in the instrction sheet so I think that I will use some plastic sheet and fill them in. Photos of this tomorrow. Again nice going on your build.
