Mark, sorry about that. I was ordering decals, photo etch, resin parts, paint, Gator Glue, canopies, wheels, and more bi-planes for other builds and forgot to look for the QUAKE and after school I was going to purchase a newspaper. FORGOT THE PAPER so it will have to be a 6/2/10 date with my start photo. See you at the starting line
HEY I noticed that the paper in only .75 in your area, it is $1.00 here.
Bob

Was gonna use USA Today, but it's a dollar, Everett Herald is only .50 and I prefer them, but all the store had was Sunday's paper. At .75 Seattle times is grossly overpriced, I wouldn't even use it for fish wrap, but that's all there was.

Thanks Damian and Terri. Yeah, a campaign seems like a great way to get back into kit making. I'll get my university end-of-semester exams out of the way and then make a decision on whether I sign up or not.
I probably will end up signing up though

Damian, I tried that....kit once, probably about 1988 or so. It wound up hitting the wall, right above the trash can
I wish you all the luck in the world It was litterally my only unbuildable kit

Very cool I haven't seen one of those built yet nice choice D.
Just a note I just started and I have to say the Tamiya kit pales in comparison to the Hasegawa version. The cockpit Isn't even close to being accurate.

Thanks Bruce . . . . I think ?? What problems did you hit ??
Either way, I'll give it a good go and see if mine is buildable or another melted puddle of styrene at the end !!

I don't know , but that news paper looks fake to me ..hehehe
Just so you guy's know , you don't have to post a news paper with your builds . I did get a chuckle out of it though , which is odd because I felt the ground shake for a few minutes .

Damian,
You name it and it was there, extremely thick parts, short shots, flash, one fuselage was badly warped. Panel lines that didn't match. The worst I ran into was after assembling the 2 cockpits (really minimal) they would not fit into the fuselages because the plastic was so thick. I even thought of just painting the canopies black and leaving them out
I later read that Modelcraft had panografed a 1/72 scale P-82 without adjusting for the scale changes...hence the overthick plastic and lack of details. But like I said, that was about 20 years ago, so who knows? They might have made the necessary changes by now and have a really good kit, but some how...

And so it begins...
and with paint and goodies ready to go.
Repli-Scale decals are from my stash and Ultra Cast exhaust, seats and canopy bows. Tamyia and Testors paints and we will see how it looks in about 2 weeks time...this is so cool

I know, the paper wasn't necessary, but Bob was teasing me about starting early. So I needed proof of life before I started...
This should be a short build for me... the kit is really pretty bare bones. While there's plenty of opportunity to add details, my goal is to get this together, get the seams right and try an NMF. My first shot for the NMF will be to try and find Floquil's 'Old Silver' and go from there, maybe highlight some panels with flat aluminum or steel and see how it works.
There's less than 60 parts, including 2 canopy sets, a pair of rocket launchers (6 parts) I won't be using and a 6 piece & jig prop. I am a bit worried about the black sprue, it feels a little rubbery, so I'm hoping it's real styrene, just a little soft.
They've worked on the tool over the years, there's a witness line on the inside of the wing where they might have removed the Hawk logo. They've cut paths across the inside one of the fuselage halves and across the inside of the wing bottom. I'm hoping this is to help the molding process and doesn't leave sinks on the outside. Panel lines are nicely engraved, possibly a bit over scale, but it looks good.

@ Mark: Moral is what I am good at so teasing goes along with all that I do. Now to business, I have not seen the old HAWK/TESTORS kit since the late 1960"s when I worked at BOBBYE HALLES HOBBY HOUSE in Dalls, Texas. All those kit boxes that I was able to touch warped my mind. I will post a photo with todays newpaper tonight and I have setteled on 1Lt. Henry Brown's THE HUN HUNTER from TEXAS P-51B 2106440.
@ Bruce: Very nice group of stuff to use for your 51 build. The Ultracast interests me, are they as good as touted?
@ Damain: Ok! D. what scheme have you decided on for that monster? I really would like to see it finished since I have never seen one completed.
@ Justin: Your work bench is TOO clean, D. has complained that mine is a disgrace BTW nice collection of goodies for your build.
@ Terri: How many are we for this campaign so far? While researching my options I came across Captain Bruce W. Carr's exceptional story. He flew P-51d-5-na ANGELS' PLAYMATE 44-13693 on a November 2, 1944 mission over Czechoslovakia, was shot down, hid out for the night in the woods near a German airbase. He watched the maintenance crew ready an FW 190A-6 (no. 31) from SG 2 and slipped into the cockpit at night to sleep with idea of taking off at day break. The next day he flew back to an American airbase in that FW 190A-6. I have thought about doing a dio in the future after learning more. Good Story, I read this in Squadron Signals ACES 2 by W. Wayne Patton and if I can scan the pages I will share this with everyone here.

Bob, according to the campaign page we've got 39 enlistees. Love to see that many finish. So far, there's you, me, Damien, Justin, Bruce and Terri chatting up our builds.
I lived in Dallas (Mesquite and Lake Highlands area) '67-72. Actually managed to darken Bobbye's door a couple of times. It was so far away and I had a TG&Y and a drug store with in biking distance and my mom worked at Medallion so getting kits didn't require the haul down there very often.

@ Justin: Now that is more like it, I don't feel so alone since Damian pointed out that my area could use a little cleaning up
@ Mark: Nice to hear from some one with local flare from back home. I lived close enough to Bobbey Halls to walk to work after Jr High. and lived in the Balch Springs area before going into the Navy in 1972. Remember Town East or Big Town
