@Bob,
I discovered Ultra Cast a few years ago and now I wouldn't build a model without them. The only problem I have is finding a hobby shop (LHS or online) that has them in stock So finally, now, I just go to their home page and order direct!
You can find them at http://ultracast.ca/ and the turn around time, at least from Ontario, Canada to St. Petersburg, Florida is about 5 days. Go look
em up, it's worth it

Here's a shot of the inside of the wing and fuselage.
And sure enough there looks like there are witness lines on the outside.

@Dean, I'm assuming that since this tool is so old, they've had problems with this sprue sticking to the cavity when the tool opens. The little 'mounds' may have rough edges that keep it stuck to the core just a little bit while the cavity moves away. The other fuselage half has a set of locating pins for the cockpit floor on top of the wing box so it'll stick there for a bit. The top wing halves don't have any 'mounds', so I'm guessing it was just this sprue that was a problem.
@Bob, I see the paper, you're good. Now did you take the Nyquil b4 or after you started working on the plane?

I am at the end of a cold that I picked up from my niece, so no more nyquil for me. I have not opened the bag yet, school work for the finals coming up take precedent at the moment. Dean is correct, that does look like dog vomit. I remember that mark in the wing, it was there back in the 1960's kit.

Terri: not to step on any toes re: the posting, I did give Squadron, Wayne Patton, and Don Greer credit and did claim that anything posted was not of my doing. Only for the significance of Bruce Carr's accomplishments, which were huge.

Go a way, son, you're depressing me.
All that in 2-3 days. I haven't even cut the first part off the sprue....
Maybe I'll get a little work done on the P-40 and start trying to figure out the cockpit (barely there) on the P-51.

@ Justin: is that the kit seat? I love it, the metal brace bars are a nice touch. The electrical lines for the radio is also a nicely added feature. Mark is correct, you are FAST! I have not even opened the bag on my kit yet.
@ Mark: a little glue, cutting, sanding, and paint then you will be set. These youngsters are allowed to be fast.
@ Damian: it looks like Justin will be finished before I even pull the kit from the bag. How are you coming along with yours

Yes it is the kit seat.Which also wasn't really that close.So I went to sanding the back cushion to make it look like something other than a slab of plastic and added braces with guitar wire I use it alot.All kinds of different diameters and the top strings are already pre wound so no wire winding And thats the Oxygen hose my man.

Hi all!
Wow, lots of nice work going on already!
I have a few other campigns to do first, but here´s what i have decided to do.
I´ll go big scale this time;
Trumpeter´s P-51B, and I have some extra detail to remedy the most glaring weaknesses of this kit.
I have a new cockpit, a new (corrected) wheel well, new "wheigted" resin wheels, and new decals!
Will show you later!
Cheers!

Bob, no surprises with Justin, I'm sure he's identical triplets and they all have allocated sub-assemblies.
Unfortunately I think Bruce may be correct. I opened the bag and took a bit of a look and there are some serious issues. The plastic is really soft, the details are weak, and the locating pins are too big for their holes (not that this is a big issue, I always cut them off anyway). I will do some test fitting and post some pics tonight. I'm afraid that if this kit looks too far gone I may have to pull out of this Campaign as the only other P-51's I have are all well underway.

Damian, you could use that kit to try rescribing panel lines . If the kit is that bad you might as well try to do something that you probably wouldn't do on a better kit, and if you stuff it up it isn't a really big loss.
I dunno, just putting it out there.

This will be fun. Haven't done a P-51 in a long time. Gotta button up a 109D for the Aces campaign and make sure I'm still on time with the 109 campaign before I pull open the polly bags for this campaign. In the meantime...
... I can continue to look for accessories to spruce up the Accurate Miniatures P-51B.
Cheers,
Fred

Damian, what I have done in the past on a dog kit was to put it together, sand everything off, plaster it with putty, sand the putty down, polish the surface then scribe it my self. I was actually suprised at how well the a/c turned out. Took all of the headache from trying to build the kit per the kit instructions. "I DID IT MY WAY" .
