Thank you Justin about noticing the rivets. I made a template out of a beer can, and taped it to the model before scribing using solid masking tape. Very easy and straight as an arrow.

An update on my seaplane entry, the venerable HU-16 Albatross. I sanded off all the rivets, filled the main wheel wells with Aves Epoxy putty and set the gear doors in the putty to dry/cure. Did the same thing with the remaining gear doors as this is going to be built wheels up flying over some downed pilots. I decided to go this route as the kit had the toy like features of operating landing gear and you could look clean through the fuselage from stem to stern. The cockpit detail consisted of a floor with two seated pilots. Thats it. I plan on painting the cockpit windows black on the inside, and filling all the other window openings with Krystal Kleer tined with some blue coloring.
These are the markings it will be painted in. Gotta love all those antenna's!

And this is where she sits currently. I need to go back over her and rivet some areas that I lost my recessed rivet detail on when sanding. Still a ways to go, but she is taking shape. The silver plastic makes it really easy when adding recessed details. It provides a nice map/guide.

And here is the base it will be perched on. I plan on having it winged over slightly as if the pilot is getting a better look at the downed pilots. Thanks for looking, "Q"

can you tell us how you did your water?
Did you re scribe and rivet your entire airframe?

Thanks for the kudos Jim. The base is bass wood. I used 5 min epoxy to glue the kit supplied water/raft to the base before hand. I mixed up a healthy dose of Aves Epoxy putty and applied it to the base after having scored the base to help it stick. I rolled out a couple of "worms" and laid them down to create the waves. Then took a blunt stick and began pushing it into the putty to create all the dimples. Did this several times until I got the choppy look I was wanting. I smoothed things over with wetted fingers then set it aside to dry overnight while I worked on some other campaign entries. I will probably add some Liquitex clear sculpting medium to it once I get around to the base again. Should help impart more of a water look to it. There really aren't any panel lines to speak of on this thing. Just a few and they were already recessed. The rivets on the other hand completely covered the airframe. It was a simple matter of sanding all of them off, smoothing out the sanding marks, then using a rivet roller to replace them. Once I finish up the sanding and riveting, I will polish out everything for a nice smooth canvas for the paint. Hopefully I can concentrate on this thing fully after finishing up my ecology final tomorrow morning. Thanks again for the the kudos. "Q"

Great looking Cat, Justin.

Andrew's Pete is just gorgeous so to do something different, instead of doing up my Tamiya Pete (and avoid inviting comparisons), I'll do my Nichimo E13 'Jake'.

With this talk of rescribing. I've done one half of the sunderland.
Although I'm not sure I've done the right thing. Panel lines dont really show at all on this.

This looks like it would be better served just masking panels. I think I'll need to experiment a little with some butter tubs or something.

interesting point JP ....they talk of " the mad trencher" in reference to the matchbox kits, but have we as modellers fallen victim to fashion regarding panel lines?..hhmmnn

Had a great deal of bother drawing the codes for G-AGES. until I found some RAF fonts on the web.
Easy then. they aren't quite right. the E was too wide but that is easy fixed. Don't know I never thought of that before. Should have patterns made for masks soon. Just waiting on the props and canopy and I'll be all set to go.

Since we already have a BV138 on the go for this campaign I am going to change plans and drag an oldie out of the stash and do a Matchbox He 115, one of the old 3 colour jobbies. Wish me luck.

Now, to do the German or Finnish markings ?? Hmmmmmm

Posting an update of my build finally.

I am doing the 1/48 Tamiya Kawanishi N1K1 Kyofu Type 11.

basic construction is more or less complete. Need to finish cleaning up some seams and get the canopy on and masked before priming.

Hopefully I can manage to finish her the rest of the way sometime int the next 9.5 months!

Wow, I forgot how thoughtful these Matchbox guys were. I don't even have to paint this rig. Dark brown upper wings, Beige fuselage, Bright blue lower wings, this baby would have been darn near invisible. The original stealth bomber !!
