Looking great, JP. Nice little extra detail with the landing lights.
Damian, I would definitle be ready for a nostalgia campaign for matchbox kits here at Aeroscale!!! Becoming a father soon I do not want to run it, but I am on for being second in command I could make some banners pronto as well to spread the word
It is surprisingly how many Matchbox kits are still out there. Check fx. Matchbox on the EBAY.CO.UK SITE

Hi Jesper, the more I think about it, the more appealing the idea gets. I had a look around a local LHS yesterday and found an old 1/32 Bf 109 3-colour kit at a reasonable price. I might just go back and grab it and that will force me to take more affirmative action re: Campaign organising. The downside is that I'm totally booked for campaigns until mid 2011 so it will be loooooooooong lead-up.
I might start a thread and gauge the interest levels.
Cheers, D

Good idea, Damian. Start mid 2011 would be good I think.
Let me know if you have a tread to sign up at some point. Then I will make some banners for us to spread the word.

Here is a small update on my Dornier flying boat.
Decals are now on and details painted. Next is the weathering which will be a bit difficult for me. I have never weathered a flying boat before. Have do to some research.

A little more weathering added on my Do 18. I am having some difficulty to decide how to weather this flying boat. Most pictures show they are very clean, so I think I will stick with the weathering as it is now with just a little additional soot around the engines.

Nice Jesper. An oil dot filter to break up the large monotone areas is all you need. Looks great.
Gonna look for rhinestones for the landing lights. For the Sunderland.
In the meantime, drilled out the exhausts and added the dark grey.
tamiya XF24. XF22 makes a terrilbe RLM02 but a decent slate grey. (Have I got those the right way round?) Always get mixed up.

Put that controller down Bruce and pick up the airbrush
A lot of masking with Blu tack snakes and we have the basic paint job done. A few touch ups needed but you get the idea. I'll do the remedial work tomorrow then it is on to the fun part. The BOAC markings.
Before I do that though can someone tell me if BOAC sunderlands had Aluminium undersides. I suspect they might.
Starting to look a little less like a lump of plastic now.

Nice work on that beast of a Sunderland, JP. Looking forward to follow your next steps.
I have now finished my Do 18 flying boat. A very nice kit despite its age and lack of detail in some places. The final oil filters coat has not dried yet fully, but for now I am calling it finished.
I tried a new technique for the small round windows in the fuselage. Instead of using the clear parts in the kit I used Humbrol Clearfix. It worked very well although a few airbubble are present in some of the windows. I am sure I can fix that the next time.
Notice the size of the underwing balken crosses. "Ach Fritz, makes sure to make the crosses big for our Kameraden to se"
Great campaign and a joy to participate. Looking forward to follow the rest of the builds for this campaign.

jp,
"Before I do that though can someone tell me if BOAC sunderlands had Aluminium undersides. I suspect they might".
not all of them it really depended on the paint scheme they started out with.
i've got pictures showing bare metal, white and underside camo paint.
whats the serial number of the aircraft your doing?

Hi there
I've had to drop out of the campaign; with so little time free for modelling at the moment and being committed to a big review build, there's just no realistic chance that I can meet the deadline. I'll carry on with my build as and when I get the opportunity and post pics as a feature when it's finished.
All the best
Rowan

Thanks for the comment, Damian. In my own opinion, taking the age of the kit into consideration it turned out nicely.
JP, looking forward to see more of your Sunderland.

Hello Rowan.
When you get done with your build, Post it in the gallery and thread and I will award your ribbon.. Just let me know when you get done.
I know that I am stretching the rules a Little, But I think that you deserve a little extra wiggle room.
Cheers,
Bruce

Im still working on my Stranraer here, albiet slowly. I have a vac formed canopy now that looks great( Thanks HARV and Bruce)..I need to add some canopy bracing made of decal film or electrical tape and thats all..Ive cut it to display in the open position..
All of the airframe has the rivets and panel lines cut in as per mechanical drawings found on the net..
The aircraft now rests in a jig..aligning all 14 struts between the wings will require alot of patience...
This is whats taking alot of my time right now....were taking down our church and rebuilding a church& youth/multipurpose centre over the existing site...and my job is to strip out the basement...LOTS to do...

You're welcome Jim, even though I didn't think that I helped you that much. I should be thanking you for the opportunity to experiment with your canopy!!
Good luck with the youth center project.

Hi Paul, sorry I've not replied not been in here in a while. It's G-AGES. I've got pictures of G-AGET and G-AGER and they look like sky undersides. So Sky I'm sticking with.
Here is the bit we've all be waiting for ( well I have.) MALS MASKS.
They went on fine. The only trouble was getting them off the backing sheet. All masks are applied but I'm only going to do one tonight to see how they go.
Here is the black sprayed. I'll do the white in half an hour. Stay tuned.

MAL!! Whooo hoo. It is not often you get a moment like that in modelling.
These codes are sweet.
I was pretty excited to peel the masking away. And these masks have been well worth the investment. It took a bit of toing and froing as these are custom masks.
But the results speak for themselves. I'm pretty gobsmacked.
Tiny bit of overspray on the E where it hits the engine housing. Be more careful in future JP!
Looks cracking (if I say so myself)

I've been following along but not posting much on this thread. Since I finished my build a few months back there have been some outstanding kits turned out here. The quality work you guys are doing is off the charts.
Jaypee, those masks are awsome! The letters turned out beautiful and the tiny bit of overspray actually looks like reflected light. Outstanding job!
