Hello All,
9 Days to Go!!!
I hope none of you are like me, I just opened the box and did not find a built model. I guess I need to look at the paper in it with the funny looking diagrams and take the parts off of all the plastic wrap around to get started.
Lots to do in the last 9 days for me, So no games, books, TV so I can get the build done.
I do enjoy waiting to the last days to see if I can get the build done,
Except some photo's tomorrow.
Cheers,
Bruce

JP- your Sutherland looks awesome!
here is where my N1K1 build stands - not much progress in 6 months!
primed in IJN gray and yellow leading edge wing stripe ID marking color laid down. Hopefully I can get the IJN green on the top tomorrow evening.

Hmmm. Family (well wife's family) pitched up for a week so the man cave is a bedroom now.
On the plus side I've moved most of my gear out to the garage which is now painted. Should get back to to it on Tuesday when they all leave. Still plenty of painting to do.
May I have an extension please, Bruce. I know this was half done when I got it, but I'm slow. A week or two should see me finished.

I managed to find some time to get the topside color on today - Tamiya IJN Green (the old version) lightened with some rlm gray 02.
I need to shoot a light coat of an even lighter/faded version of that same color on the topsides and control surfaces before going on to the decals. Hopefully I can manage that tomorrow night.

Nice progress, Vance. Are you going for a factory fresh look or "heavily jungle worn"?
Looking forward to see it with some markings on.

Hello JP,
I will try to get one for 2 weeks. My system is up and down with a half fried motherboard. If you do not hear about one consider it is OK for 2 weeks only and I will try get get the ribbons awarded as fast as I can.
I have a new system getting custom built, But it will not be ready till the 3rd of September.
Cheers,
Bruce

Im glad to hear about the extension..once I realized I let time slip away I got busy on my Stranny..prepping the engines for their resin replacements, and getting the wings and body ready for primer..after work today I should be able to get paint on..I hope ..

congrats on reaching the millennium mark, Justin!
I've applied all the decals on my N1K1 Kyofu. I used the kit decals since anything after-market would look pretty similar - these birds didn't have a lot of variation to them.
The decals were very thick and stiff, and even Solvaset, which normally destroys Tamiya decals in seconds, only affected them a little. but after many applications, they finally conformed. I still had to slice them with a sharp blade along panel lines though.
waiting for them to totally dry before the next clear coat.
I haven't decided how much weathering to do. I might go for a fairly new aircraft appearance. I did put a little fading on the fabric and upper surfaces, but you can't see it thru the gloss coat. hopefully it'll show up again once the flat coat goes on.

Lol. Sounds like a modeller's worst nightmare don't it?
Everything is moved out to the garage now. And since I've sealed and painted the concrete, it has less dust the house A camp bed and a small fridge and it will be paradise here on earth.

Replacing the kit engines with Engines n Things resin copys ...drilling out the exhausts,
Ive got some final touch-up spraying to do on the struts, and thats it ..I still have yet to tackle the canopy glazings.. , but Im happy with the toning so far ..the gloss black undercote allows me to build the colour from dark to light, which I prefer ..
now I just need to drill all 72 pilot holes for the rigging..

Nice to see one of these actually built, the Bv222 that is, and a fine job done too by the look of it. Any problems with the assembly?

What a BEAST! and I thought the Sunderland was a handful.
Speaking of which....
Thats the markings done! Phew (oh except for the bluebird) a marathon of masking and measuring. Measure twice cut once very much to the fore. Not my usual style at all.
Did upper and lower wing stripe a la BOAC Mossies, this is very much artistic license, I've no evidence the Sundys wore these and way well have had no top codes at all. Still, I like the look. Very naval.
