The TBF-1c Avenger is almost finished, just the rear gun turret to do and install the weapons, be fore adding the remaining clear parts.

Well, at long last - after much gnashing of teeth from the kit engineering and many self-inflicted wounds - my Trumpeter 1:72 Tu-22M3 Backfire is finished.

The first 2 photos are by Gerald (Hawkeye) Voigt.

I used the following aftermarket to complete the kit:
MasterCasters resin wheels (to get a weighted look)
Two Mikes resin bomb bay insert (to replace the Trumpeter bomb bay doors that don't have the missile recess build into them... although the fuselage does!)
True Details resin ejection seats (not quite the right ones, but close enough and they are what I had on hand)
Authentic Decals (will never use again)

Trumpeter omits a number of parts and gets the landing gear wrong, and could do a lot better in engineering large parts with reinforcement, but honestly the final product looks good and most folks won't know about the faults (I didn't name or fix everything that was wrong per internet reviews).

Sorry to be WAAAAY late, but....I finished!
And NO, I will not turn around and build a Bear or Badger.

Regards,
Tom

Great job Tom, you should be proud of your work mate. It was certainly worth the perseverance and extra effort from where I sit. My only comment is that it looks quite small, please build something with a bit of substance for my next Campaign, perhaps a Bear or a Badger ???

Thanks for sticking with it and contributing so much to the Anti-Shipping Campaign, and especially for posting up the finished product. Your ribbon is in your profile as promised.

Cheers, D

Greetings everyone,

Rob - I'm glad you were able to complete your projects. The "Beau" looks like its been through a war Looking at the Avenger I'm thinking it needs a F4F to keep it company!

Tom - Very convincing job on the Backfire many soviet subjects seem plain to me but your kit brings things to life. Well done.

All the best,
Brian
